SCOPE
This specification covers the minimum requirements for the supply
and installation of insulation on piping, vessels, and equipment
operating in hot or cold service. Underground piping is not covered by
this specification.

GENERAL
The insulation Manufacturers instructions and recommendations as to
the selection and methods of application of insulation shall
supplement this specification. In the event of a conflict OWNER shall
make the final decision.

Note: Glass fiber pipe insulation shall not be used in locations where
damage to the insulation can occur as a result of walking on
lines or from any other cause that may arise during normal
operation or required maintenance of adjacent equipment or
facilities.

Expansion joint filler material shall be mineral wool fiber or glass fiber
with temperature limits equal to or better than the required operating
temperatures.

16 gauge (1.6 mm) type 304 stainless steel wire shall be used
to secure pipe insulation and insulation around fittings and
equipment.

6.1
The Contractor shall perform all work with the highest quality
workmanship throughout to provide a neat, uniform appearance with
no sharp edges exposed.
6.2
Insulation shall not be applied until all testing such as hydrostatic, Xray (with X-ray numbers recorded on isometric piping drawings), etc.
has been completed on all piping and equipment involved and all
leaks have been repaired or made tight.

Insulation shall not be installed during weather which might cause the
pipe or insulation to become wet. Insulation to be installed over an
extended period must be protected to ensure it remains dry until it
has been properly sealed.

Insulation shall not cover the face of gauge glasses, equipment name
or data plates or tags, nor be applied so as to interfere with dynamic
parts of instruments or equipment.

At all flanges, unions, and pipe terminations, the pipe insulation shall
be bevelled at a 45 angle to facilitate removal of flange bolts and
union collars without damage to the main pipe insulation and metal
jacketing. A screwed and sealed metal cover shall be installed.

Jacketing shall be secured with bands, located at each lap joint and
spaced a maximum of 300 mm on center. Vertical jacketing shall be
supported with S clips.

Vessel supports shall be insulated along the support to not less than
four (4) times the shell insulation thickness.

Equipment
GUARANTEE
The Contractor shall guarantee the installation to be free from
material defect, misapplication, or poor workmanship for a period of
one (1) year after date of acceptance. Any unsatisfactory work or
defects shall be repaired at Contractors expense and at a time
acceptable to OWNER.
10.0
DRAWINGS
When specific details preclude the use of general insulating practices,
Contractor shall submit drawings complete with full details to OWNER
for approval indicating proposed insulation details for piping, vessels,
and equipment and at support rings, insulation expansion joints,
insulation termination points and flashing, and pipe/equipment
supports.
