COURSE OVERVIEW
Students in Integrated Science will utilize an inquiry and literacy approach to focus on the skills of planning and
conducting investigations, as well analyzing and interpreting data. Students will obtain, evaluate, and communicate scientific
information. This year long course will allow students to read scientific texts, conduct numerous hands-on data collection opportunities,
use mathematical practices, and communicate their scientific knowledge through writing and speaking. The integrated science course
focuses on the topics of the scientific process, science and society, astronomy, Earths processes, weather and climate, and
physics. This Integrated Science course is aligned with the Arizona State Standards as well as the framework for k-12 science
education. This course is approved as a laboratory science credit for university admission.
ATTENDANCE
1. You are expected to follow the district policy on attendance and tardies as written in the student book and posted in the room.
Any student receiving 12 or more absences during a semester will be placed on a loss of credit for the class and must go
through the appeals process.

MAKE-UP WORK & ASSIGNMENTS
1. After returning from an absence, you are given the number of days absent plus one to turn in any make-up work. Special
consideration will be given in some cases of extended absences. Alternate make-up assignments and tests may be given to those
returning from an absence.
2. Students excused on school business should check with me on work and assignments to be missed before leaving on your
activity or sports event.
3. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY upon return to obtain the work missed for any days absent. Assignments and lessons for each day
can be found in the Absent Box.
4. If you ever need extra help with assignments, labs, or make-up work, make arrangements with me so that I can be available
outside of class-time. Office hours after school will be from 2:40-3:30pm, Mon.-Fri.

GENERAL BEHAVIOR
1. Show Respect to Yourself, Others, & the Environment. This includes not swearing, being courteous, not talking while other
people have the floor, and cleaning up after yourself.
2. Listen carefully. This includes listening to the teacher as well as other students.
3. Observe School & District Rules. Listed in the Student Handbook are all the campus rules and regulations governing your
behavior at school and in this class. You are expected to follow them. This includes plagiarism or cheating of any kind.
4. Positive Attitude. Everyday is a new adventure.

Come to class prepared and on time.

This class will involve lab experiments in the classroom or around campus. All students are expected to follow the laboratory use
and safety rules given in class. Students are responsible for the safe and proper use of all lab equipment. Lab privileges may be
revoked for any violation of lab rules.

*** If at any time these rules are violated or class is disrupted: students will be warned, assigned detention, a phone call
made home, or given a disciplinary referral. Detention may consist of lab or classroom clean-up detail. Failure to serve an
assigned detention on the day that it is given or the following school day will result in further action.

GRADES
Class Assignments (40% of grade) such as work on that units concepts (includes classwork, labs, homework, projects,
bellwork)
o Late assignments can be turned in up to 1 week after the due date for up to 70% of the original value
of the assignment.
o Large Semester Ending Projects will not be accepted late students will be given notice of the due
date for project at least 1 week in advance.
2. Quizzes / Unit Tests (50% of grade) these will be given periodically to determine how much content has been mastered.
o Retesting = In order for a retake to be given the student must do study guide questions for the test that
was failed. All retakes must be taken within 1 week after the original test is returned to the student.
o Cheating on tests will automatically earn a grade of zero for that test.
3. District wide Performance Based Assessment (10% of Grade)

PENCIL, BLUE INK, OR BLACK INK. ALL OTHER ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE GIVEN A GRADE OF ZERO.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Due to the disruptive nature of electronic devices such as cell phones, ipods, tablets, etc. Use of these devices in the classroom will be
prohibited unless given direct permission by the teacher.
GENERAL COMMENTS
During the course of the year, you have the power to make science an interesting as well as an educational experience. I look
forward to all the challenges, questions, and comments that you will have. Please feel free to ask relevant questions, add positive
input, and make constructive criticism on what occurs throughout the year. If you have any concerns with the class or my methods,
