Classroom Expectations
This class should be a place where everyone should be safe. Safe to learn, safe to teach, safe to express
your thoughts and ideas.
This class should be a place where everyone should be respected. Respected by the teacher, respected by
students, respected by peers.
This class should be a place where everyone should be valued. Everyone in this class brings unique value
to this school and we want to celebrate that.
Classroom Policies
Bathroom Pass: If you need to use the bathroom write your name in the notebook and get the pass from
me (Mr. Wu). There is only one pass per class so please dont spend too much time out of class.
Health Room Pass: If you are not feeling well let me know and I will write you a pass to the health room.
Counselors Office Pass: If you need to see a counselor please get a pass from that counselor and I will let
you go.
Other Class Pass: If another teacher writes you a pass to go to their class during your math period, bring
the pass to me and we can discuss it. I may let you go to the other class if I feel missing math class would
not set you too far behind.
Absences: If you know you are going to miss math class please let me know in advance preferably with a
note. This class follows the schools excused versus unexcused absence policy.
Knight Pride
Demonstrating

Relationships by being Respectful, Responsible, Resourceful and Resilient.

Character, Competence and Commitment

Food and Drink: For now you have the privilege of enjoying food and drink in this classroom. Be
responsible and clean up complete after yourself. Gum especially, do not stick it under the desk but
instead throw it away in the trash can.
Cell Phones and other distractions: Any cell phone or distraction being used during class will be
immediately taken away. These will be turned into the office where your parent or guardian will need to
pick them up. It is a hassle so dont use your cell phone during class.

The Caste High School Grading Policy will be followed in this class. The Policy is as follows:
Infinite Campus
Infinite Campus is the schools on-line grade calculating and reporting program. I will update grades by 3
p.m. every Monday.
5-Point Grading Scale
Although Castle High School is currently not a standards-based grading school, we are working toward
standards based grading. Therefore, all assignments and assessments will be based on a 5-point grading
scale. Some grades may reflect half credit increments. For example, a student may receive a grade of 2.5
for an assignment. I have the discretion to assign a weight to larger assessments, with the maximum
weight being three.
Grade for the
Assignment or
Assessment

Letter Grade for the

Assignment or
Assessment

Furthermore, extra credit will not be offered.

Quarter, Semester, Year Grades
Quarter grades will be based on this formula:
All graded assignments 15% of total grade
All graded assessments 85% of total grade
Semester grades will be based on the average of the two quarter grades.

Retakes

Students will be allowed to retake assessments. In order to be eligible for a retake all homework must be
turned in before the original test is taken. I will take the higher grade. If you are absent the day of an
assessment I will conference with you to determine a time to make up the assessment.
Firm Deadlines
Firm deadlines for large projects and finals can be established if communicated at the start of the project
or quarter and reiterated often.
Unexcused Absence
Work will be given to students and students will have the opportunity to turn in the work for a grade.
Students may have up to but no longer than two weeks after the due date to submit work. Maximum
grade for an unexcused absence is a 4. No re-takes allowed for work turned in from an unexcused
absence.
Finals Week
A final exam may be given at the end of each semester. A final exam schedule will be distributed early in
the semester. Students should take every opportunity (A-period tutoring, re-takes, etc) to keep up with
academic work throughout the semester to be prepared for each courses final exam. Taking children out
of school during finals week may be detrimental to their overall grades.
