Dear G11 General Academic Strand Students,

Good day! I am Ionell Jay R. Terogo (call me Sir Io!) and I will be
your expert teacher for COR 011 21st Century Literature from the
Philippines and the World. We havent met yet, but every day this
summer Ive thought about you. ;)
I know that may sound odd but please keep reading. I havent
thought about you individually, because I dont know who you are
yet, but Ive thought about you collectively. Ive thought about the
amazing group of G11 GA students that will cross the threshold of
my sessions.

about

challenging you.
embracing your differences.
your strengths.
your weaknesses.

And I have a secret that I cant keep in for another few weeks.
You
Are
All
Champions, Geniuses, Knights, and Princesses of the realm of
learning especially Literature!
Shhh! Dont tell anyone, but really you are. I know deep within you,
your inner genius is ready to come out! Ive worked with geniuses
for 5 school years now, and let me tell you something its
amazing! And this year although everything is new (new school

for some, new department, new grade level, new approach, new
teacher) - wont be different.
So, before you walk through my door on the first day of school,
think about YOUR genius. What are you an expert at? What do you
enjoy? What can I learn from YOU? How are YOU going to change
the world? I cant wait to share my genius with you and for you to
share your genius with all the other geniuses in the room: your
strand-mates.
Sir Io
P.S. Say hi to my student facilitators. They are here to help you. They know you are geniuses, too.
Activity 1: Acrostic Name
Instructions
As an introductory/GTKY activity, write a poem in acrostics using the letters of your name as the first letters in each line.
Show your writing skill in this activity. The objective is to use the poem to introduce yourself to the class therefore, you must
write anything about yourself. Dont write one word per letter; it should be a line/a sentence.
For example: Your name is Bryan.
Being very brave in situations that call for my sensitivity has always been my strength
Reading books at night is my hobby and stress reliever
Young and energetic I may seem but I am honestly an introvert
Address or my original home is Ylagan St., San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Nice to meet you because I am really friendly, sincere, and fun to be with.

After 15 minutes, share your poem to a pair. The friend must listen carefully so that he/she can give comments and
suggestions. Then after 5 minutes, start sharing your improved poem to the big group.

Activity 2: Reply Letter

Instructions
After reading the letter of Sir Ionell regarding first day of classes, write a reply letter to him. Include in the letter:
-

Your name and personal details you would like to share

An honest response to what he said
Your dreams and wishes that may relate to your attendance in his class and in Grade 11 in general
What you hope for in the subject, the teacher and facilitators, your friends, and especially your self
What you can do to help the teacher, the facilitators, your friends, and your self so that all of us will be successful

Write in letter format (just like the sample letter). Check your grammar and mechanics (of course!). Write poetically (use
what you know in writing in this activity). Use words appropriate to your level. Be neat and organized.
