TOPIC
EurAsia Info: Is it fair to say that you
rather represent Switzerland tourism outside Switzerland than in the country itself?
Simon: For me personally yes. We are
responsible for the promotion of Switzerland as a travel destination: for leisure and for business. I am in charge of the
source markets, the customer market in
Asia. So my teams are bringing people from
Asia to Switzerland.
EurAsia Info: And you dont care so
much where they go in Switzerland?
Simon: Thats not my direct responsibility. However, you cant just give a generic image of Switzerland and not talk about
specific places. So we raise the interest but
we are not taking the responsibility for the
particular regions, e.g. we dont sell tickets.
This is regional responsibility: e.g. Jungfrau
railways are working on their own; they are
selling the tickets and building up all the
trade relations with their partners in the markets. We are taking care of the promotion of
Switzerland on an integral basis.
EurAsia Info: But you certainly have
contacts with the regional and local tourist offices...?
Simon: Of course. We have a very close
cooperation and keep partnerships with all
Swiss regions, with Lucerne tourism, with
Lake Geneva region, with Zurich, with Grisons and so on. We actually get funded up to
approximately 50 percent by the federal government; the rest we get through our partners. The regions with their suppliers, hotels,
cable ways etc. join in into our marketing activities. So basically we are like a platform
and we have certain topics that we work
on; you might have heard about the Grand
Tour of Switzerland that we have been promoting this summer. We like the regional
partners to join in and to add their contents
to the main campaign.
EurAsia Info: There has been some criticism on promoting self-driving..
Simon: From my point of view, it was
not surprising that this point came up. When
promoting Switzerland as a travel destination, we normally play strongly on the public transportation system which is one of
the unique selling arguments. So it could
be easily misunderstood in a way that we
are now start promoting self-driving experiences. However, many of our costumers
especially from the neighbor countries would travel by car anyway and we simply
tried to give them new arguments why they
should stay in Switzerland and not to
look out for other destinations. However,
there is also a demand for self-driving among
Asian, in particular Chinese tourists.

I asked "Who do you worship?"
"The veterans said many people make
me admire, but I dont worship anyone. Nobody is so perfect, everyone makes mistakes. So I can admire but not worship anyone. I think many Chinese have talent in
martial arts."
I tried to tease him: "Is there anyone who
challenged you?"
Mr. Rong said with a smile: "There
werent really any challenges. I fought in
my childhood but I actually forgot it. It was
not similar to the movies."
Attitude
EurAsia Info: "If someone insults you,
will you pay back the same way?"
Mr. Rong said: "We should deal with problems case by case in our lives. If someone
insults you, we should not be angry about
it but we should analyze the cause. If I am
wrong, I will correct it. On the other hand,
if I am right, I wont make a big story about
it because that will give me nothing except
making me unhappy."
"Have martial arts influenced your atti-
tude?"
Mr. Rong nodded: "If I encounter problems, I try to calm down first. You normally
dont find the method to solve them immediately. Sometimes the inspiration to solve
the problem suddenly appears during the
practicing or boxing teaching lesson. I believe we make the right decision when we
are quiet .So we will not regret our decision."
This is a masters attitude: Order in your
heart; not trapped in love, not forgetting the
past and not afraid of the future.
"What do you think is the worst and most
happy thing?"
Mr. Rong said: "Im not good at remembering the worst or most happy thing, I regard my experience as a chance to learn.
Experiences are a reason for success and
failure!"
Talking about the past and the future, Mr.
Rong is full of pride. He said with emotion:
"I dont regret my original choice, because
this would not have a positive effect. I am
not really satisfied with my grades now but
I am content with my destiny."
I misunderstood the temperament of a
master. I think they are impulsive. In fact,
I see kindness, humility and healthy trends
in Mr. Rong. The martial arts master must
have his morality, then he can have the
chance for success.

(Continuation from first page) To the surprise of many people, president Xi immediately raised his left hand and waved to
the audience. Chairman Ma followed him
on the spot by lifting his right hand. Thats
how the famous picture of the waving presidents occurred.
The meeting between Communist party
chief Xi and Nationalist president Ma was
the first time two such leaders had come
together since Mao Zedong founded the
Peoples Republic of China in 1949. The
last encounter between communist and nationalist leaders came in August 1945, when
Mao and Chiang Kai-shek came together in
Chongqing for seven weeks of talks.
Chinese state media painted the dialogue
as a watershed moment which one analyst
compared to Richard Nixons 1972 trip to
China, which paved the way for the normalisation of relations between Beijing and Washington. This is also an icebreaking meeting, Tao Wenzhou, from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told CCTV, the state broadcaster.
Saturdays summit, which was announced on Tuesday night, began at 3pm local time at Singapores five-star Shangri-La hotel. As Xi and Ma stepped out before the cameras and were bathed in a blaze of camera
flashes, the presenter of a live CCTV broadcast told viewers: This is certainly a landmark handshake.
The summit represents a high point in the
seven-year rapprochement between Taipei
and Beijing that began in 2008, when Ma
Ying-jeou took office, vowing to end the political feud between the two sides. Ma, who
will step down next year following a presidential election on 16 January, has overseen a striking improvement in relations with
Beijing, which still regards democratically
ruled Taiwan as a renegade province.

EurAsiaInfo.ch : Thank you for having this interview with us, Mr. Zhao. As we
learned, you are the violin honorary professor in Central Conservatory of Music
as well as the founder of the Musical Cultural Exchange Association between Switzerland and China. You also established
the general association of overseas Chinese in Switzerland. You took up the post
of the president of Chinese general chamber of Commerce in Switzerland and are also the president of the association for the
Chinese peaceful reunification in Switzerland. In 1980s, you came to Switzerland for
further education and lived here ever since.
For the past 30 years, you have organized
musical and cultural events between Switzerland and China almost every year. There are surely more things about you that
we dont know. We know that you are busy
with several big performances. Before
we dig deeper on those events, could you
share with our readers some personal stories? What was your first encounter with
this beautiful country?
Zhao Yuan: I was in the earliest group of
Chinese studying abroad coming to Switzerland in the 1980s. It was a short-term scholar exchange program and we attended lectures and gave violin classes. With this opportunity, I managed to settle down in Switzerland and start my family and career here. I
was in my 20s and still a young fellow the
first time I came here. Now I am 58 years
old. How time flies!
I have kept the musical connection between China and Switzerland. We founded the

On November 12th, the China, the US,
Russia, France and the UK delegations to the
UN in Geneva (the five permanent members
of the UN Security Council) will co-host a
music party for commemorating the 70th
anniversary of the victory of the world antifascist war. This is the highlight of the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestras
performances in Switzerland.
EurAsiaInfo.ch: Who is in charge of the
organization of the event in November?
Zhao Yuan: This event is organized by
the Culture and Art Exchange Association between Switzerland and China and the
Ecole-Atelier Rudra Bjart.
EurAsiaInfo.ch: Which concert is the
most unforgettable one for you?
Zhao Yuan: The three grand symphony
orchestra concerts in Switzerland hosted by
National Youth Symphony Orchestra: the
Central Conservatory of Music, National
Opera Symphony Orchestra and Glee Club
in September and November last year. That
is the most unforgettable experience for me.
The consummate performance of Chinese
artists touched the whole audience from
Switzerland and other U.N. Countries. The
social influence was so big that its still admired by many people from all back
grounds. In January this year, the
Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra paid a visit
to Switzerland. Mei Di and the orchestra played a Chinese piano concerto called Yellow
River and achieved huge success both due
to their performance as well as the repertoire. The music columnist of Swiss Info remarks: This is a concerto that combines all
the great piano techniques. Its grand in momentum and touching in melody, conveying
the strong will of Chinese people... This
shows the influence of musical art is beyond
any national boundaries and beliefs. Music
can promote the image of Chinese nation
and is the link for friendship.
EurAsiaInfo.ch: Do you have bigger
plans for the future? What is your dream?
Zhao Yuan: Ever since I was 16, Ive
been living with and from music. Ive been teaching violin for 41 years. Its becau-

have the classical cycle: seven lean years and
then 7 fat years. As long as we have to amortize the console, we have to pay back many
thousands every month thats reducing
our monthly income significantly. Now we
do not feel that so much anymore; we have
reached a level where we can also invest on a
regular basis to keep the value of our equipment. However, our first years were truly
lean.
EurAsia Info: Why did you decide to become sound engineer and to own a studio?
I have got a training as a teacher for accordion and during that time I already had a
tape recorder with four tracks which was a
revolutionary design back then. So I went
from practice room to practice room and recorded the drums on track one, on track two
the bass, the voice on track three and then
mixed everything on track fourThis was
my very start.
In 1981 I got the opportunity to
make recordings at a music festival in Assisi in Italy, could record symphonic concerts, operas, oratorios for the first time all
with my 4-track tape recorder and few microphones. This was the kick for me to become sound engineer.
After my diploma for accordion I studied trumpet at the conservatory in Winterthur and during that time I already spent half
of my time in my first studio in the cellar.
Since the move to Hard, sound engineer
is my full time job.
EurAsia Info: Did you attend any specific training courses?
I attended an electronics course but had
no specific training for sound engineers
this was simply not available at that time as
it is now at the university. Actually I have
been professor there and I am still an expert

position in this process. Budgets are smaller and everybody tries to use the studios in
the most efficient way in this sense we can
offer an optimal environment with our differently sized studios. Thats why we have a
big group of clients keeping us busy.
EurAsia Info: How important is the human factor in your business?
The human interaction is the key differentiator my team has very much incorporated this belief. Our clients do not
come to our studios because of our technical
equipment this is standard in this business.
Maybe they like the rooms but more importantly, the whole production line with the
human interaction is excellent; there is no
weak link in our chain.
EurAsia Info: What is the strangest experience you ever had?
We once had recordings with a jazz singer. Before we could start, she came to me
and told me that I have to bring her to place where she can see a spider. She said: I
have to see a spider; this brings me luck and
then I will make a good recording. As I remember, it was not in autumn where we
have spiders everywhere around this house.
So we had to walk around for quite a while
until we finally detected a web in a corner
and could catch the spider. She took a short
look at the spider and then said: now lets
start the recording!
EurAsia Info: What kind of recordings
do you make?
We are specialized in acoustic recording
(with microphones and few electronic parts).
So we do not record Hip-Hop or dance music, no punk and no hard rock (we do not have the staff for that). However, apart from
that, we record any music styles, from Rock
n Roll to light music to classical music to
folkloristic music, Jazz (in fact a lot of Jazz)
to choirs we do everything. Furthermore,
we make language recordings e.g. the Globi CDs with Walter Andreas Mller, cabaret and comedy live recordings (Divertimento, Marco Rima, Peach Weber). In the latter
case, we make recordings from several performances and collect the best versions for
the CDs. In general it is my responsibility to
get the sound right the comedians themselves do not get involved in that so much except that they want to have the laughter of the
audience much louder (laughs).
EurAsia Info: Who are your prominent
guests in the studio?
The most prominent one was probably
Herbert Grnemeyer. He came here for one
day to record some songs that was a joint
venture with a Swiss band for which >>

he sang two songs and they made the basics for him. In general, we are not working
with famous people: many of the famous Swiss bands do not need such a studio
they are closely working with a producer
who owns a project studio where they can
develop their projects which are mainly based on electronic sounds.
EurAsia Info: Do you still have customers renting the studio for a longer time in
order to develop their new CD here?
This has become very rare nowadays the
budgets are simply not big enough anymore.
Michael von der Heide was here but just recorded the basic part with his band and left
to do the recording of the voice somewhere
else we did not see the end result anymore.
Zri West has been here some years ago and
spent six weeks in our studio to develop new
sounds that was the last such case we had.
EurAsia Info: Can everybody rent your
studio and make a recording here?
Unfortunately yes (laughs). There are
very few clients I would like to avoid;
how-ever, if I tell them that they have to
wait for six months and they immediately reply: OK, then lets book the studio then,
I will welcome them and will be very patient and friendly. In two cases only, I
have sent people back home without finalizing the recording: I stopped the recording
work after half a day (without charging them)
and told them that they should practice and
come back when they are better prepared.
They actually came back after a while and
the recording went a little better
The problem with laymen is that they normally cannot get better in the studio contrary to professionals who can normally improve their results during the work together.
There are very different styles how sound
engineers try to improve the results: some
can be very aggressive; however, I am convinced that you can achieve very good results with constructive comments.
EurAsia Info: Would you recommend to
become sound engineer?
Yes, for sure I would certainly do it again if I was young now. However, I would
make candidates aware of certain things:
you have to be flexible, you need a lot of
patience, you have to adjust to very different skill levels and determine which quality level you can finally aim for. And this
is maybe strange to say you have to be very
good; otherwise you will not have enough
work to do. There are too many players in
the market now and the amount of work is
actually shrinking: so only the best can survive. When I started, it was not a fashionable profession and there was not too much
competition; but now, its hard.
If I check what the sound engineers do
now who we had to fire at some stage, I notice that some of them have opened their own
studios but you never hear anything about
them anymore. It is really a difficult business!

According to the introduction of Chen

An interview with Taiwans Tourism Bureau promoting to European travelers to focus on the typical scenic spots.
Kunyuan Lin: Taiwan is not big but its natural resources and landscapes are very amazing. Because of the continental shift, Taiwan has high mountains, hills, plains, basins,
islands and valleys. Besides that, the tropic
of Cancer goes through Taiwan, therefore
Taiwan has all kinds of climates, such as a
tropical zone, a subtropical zone, a temperate zone and so on. Especially in the mountain area of Taiwan, there are different plants
and forests in the different climatic zones.
Those are very attractive to European and
American tourists. To their surprise, they can
see flowers such as the alpine rhododendron
in the Taiwanese mountains. The diversity
is very different from European mountains.

in in the mountains and shuttles in the forest or climb the highest peak in northeast
Asia, the Jade mountain. Or visit the grand
mountains and witness the changes of the
four seasons. Or come to Kenting in
southern Taiwan where the sea holiday atmosphere makes people feel at ease. For
good reasons it has the good reputation of
being the Hawaii in Asia.
Taiwan is also one of the important conservation places all over the world. The
ratio of the native and endemic species is
quite high such as the Formosan Landlocked
Salmon, the Formosan rock macaque, the
Taiwan black bear, and so on. For example, in autumn every year, the bird fair is
held in Kuandu: A large number of geese and ducks are due in the wetland every
autumn and winter to spend the winter there,
such as mallard, green winged teal, flower
mouth duck, tail tip duck etc. and sometimes
there are also some unexpected visitors.
Once British birdwatching groups coming to
Taiwan reported that they had seen hundreds
of different species of birds in the world but
in Taiwan there are 20 kinds of rare birds
that they have never seen before. Its very
amazing!
EurAsia Info: According to your official
website statistics, most European tourists in
Taiwan are coming from Germany and the
UK, next is France. During the 2010-2015,
the number of the tourists from Germany,
UK and France have increased by ten
thousands. The number of visitors from
Switzerland has also continued to increase in recent years. What is your
analysis for this growth trend?
Kunyuan Lin: The number of flights
between Taiwan and Europe has increased
in the past few years like the ones to London and Frankfurt. We also cooperate with
PR companies in Germany, UK, France and
Netherlands and do marketing, e.g. in Frankfurt and London Heathrow airport. We put
the Taiwan tourism image in the advertising,
like natural landscapes or typical food in order to impress the tourists. Once some Taiwanese abroad students saw our advertisement of Taiwan in the London underground
station which suddenly made them very
moved and homesick.
EurAsia Info: In addition to increasing
the flights between Europe and Taiwan,
is your presence in international tourism
shows also helpful in promoting? How
many are there every year?
Kunyuan Lin: Every year we participate
in thirteen tourism shows in Europe including the biggest tourism shows in Germany
TOPIC
and France. Overseas units do most work
for us. Tourism helps to make Taiwan become more and more well-known in the
world.
EurAsia Info: The number of visitors
from Western Europe and Switzerland to
Taiwan is small in total but the average cost
is higher than the other visitors. For the
middle and high class consumers, is there
a different way of promotion?
Kunyuan Lin: We have planned two more high-end, exquisite travel itineraries for
the visitors from Asia, Europe and the United States
One is Free Transit Travel: usually the
planes from European airports are landing in Taiwan very early; so we assist China airlines and Eva airways to plan some
free half-day tours in minibuses for 20-30
people, visiting Northern scenic spots
close to the Taoyuan airport, such as Taipei
101, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and
enjoying delicious food. (There will be two
journeys per day one in the morning and
and one at noon.)
Another one is a tour bus taking the visitors directly to the hotel, to the airport or
train station and providing both Chinese and
English tour commentary for visitors, even
there are only two people in the bus. We also
launched ipad tours with comments in many
languages, such as English, Japanese, Korean; the tourists can get information about
the different scenic spots from it.
Some countries like Switzerland and Germany have a strong market for visitors in
retirement age; we particularly emphasize
that Taiwan is very suitable for seniors to go
sightseeing because of the good public security and barrier-free access. In addition,
most Taiwanese people show respect for elders, so elders can get special care. This provides a favorable environment for visitors in
retirement age.
EurAsia Info: Switzerland is a country
with many languages: how about the development of tourist information for non-English speaking visitors in Taiwan?
Kunyuan Lin: We know that Europe covers a wide range of languages; so our annual propaganda film will also be available
in other languages than English. Now it has
more than ten languages in total. However,
in most places it will still be in English.
EurAsia Info: What are Taiwans characteristics compared with Hong Kong
and Macao, Japan, Thailand? What are
the competitive advantages?

Kunyuan Lin: Besides the natural landscapes, a lot of Chinese traditional culture
can also be found in Taiwan: the continuation of Chinese culture, such as the collection of the treasures of the Forbidden City
as well as the vitality of folkloristic religious celebrations. Once there was a German media reporter who said: you can
always feel a kind of constraint stress in Japan, smell the commercial atmosphere in
Hong Kong but in Taiwan, you can feel the
humanly warmth and the right pace of life .I
also had contact with many diplomats and
people in the chamber of commerce who stayed in Taiwan. Many times, they still bear
the customs of Taiwan in mind and many
even came back to Taiwan to live there when
they retire .
EurAsia Info: This year, Taiwan was
chosen by CNN as the best travelling destination of food in the world. What do you
plan to do to attract the world people to Taiwan to enjoy the delicious food?
Kunyuan Lin: Our recent success is
a promotional activity called Taste Taiwan: A culinary Journey with chefs from
some major cities of North America such as
New York, Chicago and Toronto, We invited the local famous chefs to Taiwan to take
part in a Creative Cooking Competition. By
showing the local culture and how to look
for food in the traditional markets, the documentary film in the US and Canada had
high ratings. Three chefs returned to their
restaurants and hosted the Taiwan food
week series. Based on their own expertise and creativity, combining food ingredients and cooking methods from Taiwan, they
created some fusion Eastern and Western
dishes in their own restaurants. This project
recently won the first marketing price from
the Pacific Asia Travel Association, PATA.
This model can be copied to the marketing in Europe, there are many famous chefs
and restaurants. We can organize a group
of people who are interested in Asian cui-

mind and decided to choose what I truly

Eurasia Info: How did you find this
restaurant?
Yuzhu Chen: There is quite an interesting story between the two of us, me and
the restaurant. Back in 2006, I noticed in the
newspaper a piece of information about a restaurant transfer in Bad Sckingen.
I was intrigued and came together with
Yongwen to have a look at the restaurant.
The restaurant owner was eager to sell it as
he couldnt make it work due to the lack of
business. We were not the first ones to check
this restaurant, yet no one was willing to
take it. However, we saw business opportunities in this restaurant regardless of how bad
it looked like back then. We borrowed some
money from our relatives and bought the restaurant for fifty thousand euros.
Eurasia Info: You bought this restaurant
for fifty thousand euros; for which price
you think you could sell it now?
Yuzhu Chen: I wont sell it even for
five hundred thousand euros. Now we
have a steady flow of customers and we make profit every day.
Eurasia Info: Can you share with us
the way of managing the restaurant? How
did you manage to turn a restaurant no
one dared to take over into such a popular
restaurant?
Yuzhu Chen: I havent finished my college and I had no relevant experience of
running a restaurant. I keep learning as I am
working and now I am more experienced
than ever before. My father-in-law always
praised me for good management.
Every year, I make a new plan and set
up a higher business goal for the next year.
Sometimes Yongwen thought I was too ambitious, but it turned out that my plans always
worked.
It also helps that my husband and his
father have rich experience in managing
restaurants. Things like purchasing really
need relevant experience.
I try to keep our food attractive both in
quality and price, so I need to buy goods
at a comparatively low price. I will make a
large purchase when goods are on sale.
There is a big sale today and I just brought my employees there and bought a large
quantity of oil.
Public praise is also very important. If you
serve one person well, he/she will then bring
more customers here. Good words spread
and our business is getting better and better.
We have never paid to advertise; our customers are our advertisement.
Eurasia Info: I noticed that your
husband has been working diligently and
is not bossy at all. He even did some cleaning work himself. Do you think the quality
of diligence makes the restaurant so good?
Yuzhu Chen: Yes. Although we have
around ten employees, we never think they
should do all the work. When they are busy,
we always help and do part of the work.
Eurasia Info: From the past 9 year, do
you have any unforgettable memory?
Yuzhu Chen: Yes. The first year was the
hardest period for us. It costed altogether
70000 euros to start the restaurant. Not only did we run out of all our savings but we
had also borrowed money from our relatives. Due to the lack of expenditure, we only hired two chefs. We had to do all the work
ourselves, no matter how trivial the things
were, such as doing the dishes and mopping
the floor. Sometimes when it was busy, we
couldnt get a rest until we finished a days
work at 2 or 3 oclock in the morning. Yet before long, we had to get up before 9AM to
prepare for opening for lunch. That was really a hard time.
Eurasia Info: Does any of your family
members have the experience of managing
a restaurant?
Yuzhu Chen: My father-in-law has over
20 years experience in managing restaurants and offers a lot of help to us. Yongwen
has a little brother and they once ran a family restaurant together. Yongwen knows well
how to manage a restaurant. After we got
married, Yongwen left the restaurant to his
brother and we moved to Bad Sckingen to
start this new restaurant.
Eurasia Info: Have you ever encountered some strange customers?
Yuzhu Chen: Yes, there are a lot, but I
cant remember by now.
Eurasia Info: What do you think is the
key to success?
Yuzhu: First diligence and second inno> To Next Page

home with them. Applicants must have completed a university degree or an apprenticeship to be eligible.
But theres just one issue with the
scheme: very few Swiss employers are
taking on Tunisian interns.
Limited leverage
The State Secretariat for Migration (SSM)
is responsible for overseeing the terms of the
migration partnership. Normally the trainees would get their jobs themselves and our
office would allow for entry and the stay in
Switzerland, the SSMs Gregoire Crettaz
explained. The problem is finding available jobs, and were having trouble identifying possibilities for these young Tunisians to work here in Switzerland.
The leverage we have over the private
sector is, of course, limited, Crettaz admits.
Employers have to create available positions out of their own will and we have no
influence over that.
Ben Taleb believes he was able to benefit from the internship programme because he was already living in Switzerland, entrenched in his field and able to make contacts on the ground. Plus, although the internship he found is ideal for him, he thinks
most of the other applicants were foreigners
because the irregular hours might not be as
attractive to Swiss interns with other options.
And he is well aware that employers are
going out on a limb when they take on interns from Tunisia instead of from Swit- >>

zerland or a neighbouring country, especially because of the time limits placed on
those from Tunisia.
I think it's difficult for Swiss employers
to trust a foreigner, and then a year and a
half is not very long [to have an intern], he
points out. They know they will educate
you and then let you go [because youre not
eligible for employment after that].
Banking on success
Crettaz knows the stakes are high for the
project to succeed. The Tunisian internship
agreement is the first of its kind with a country in the Arab world as well as an important element of the migration partnership
with Tunisia for the SSM. For that reason, he
says his office has gone beyond the normal
mandate for such agreements, appealing to
possible employers and working with members of the Tunisian diaspora in Switzerland
to try to increase the number of interns being taken on.
For non-European Union countries, we
have almost no opportunities to let people
enter Switzerland except those who are very
qualified, Crettaz says. We have few possibilities to help countries like Tunisia and
let them have people enter for training or
work. This [programme] is the only possibility we have.
Normally we wouldnt intervene, but we
want to make it a success.
Ben Taleb explains that most young
people from his country with the means to do
so aim to go abroad, at least for a short while,
to study and gain experience. The most popular destinations tend to be France, Canada and Switzerland because of the French
language they have in common as well as
Gulf States such as Oman, Saudi Arabia or
the United Arab Emirates.

lopment aid. Some Tunisian politicians also felt, at the time, that they didnt get enough out of the deal.
Today, the number of asylum requests
placed by Tunisians in Switzerland has
markedly declined. And while 841 Tunisian asylum seekers were repatriated in
2013 some forcibly, most voluntarily
that number dropped to 216 in 2014, according to the SSM.
Crettaz says other countries across the
Arab world and Africa facing similar challenges are keeping an eye on the Swiss-Tunisian migration partnership because they
know we have this arrangement with Tunisia and come with the same request to
have access to Switzerland for their workers.
First, we want to have the experience
with Tunisia because we want to make sure its a success before making other agreements, he explains.
Sources of internships
The migration office, the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia and a Tunisian diaspora organisation called CTRS have reached out
to employers and associations in Switzerland in the food service and agriculture industries, among others, to try to make them
aware of the possibility of employing Tunisian interns. However, upon inquiry, Monika
Schatzmann of Agrimpuls, which places interns from Switzerland and abroad on farms,
said the organisation is not currently promoting or working with interns from Tunisia. The majority of its foreign interns come
from eastern European countries like Ukraine, Romania and Hungary.
Other possible sources of employment,
such as the retail sector, tend to mostly
take interns that have gone through the Swiss
apprenticeship system. The hotel sector does
employ some interns from so-called third
countries outside the European Union,
with spokesperson Corinne Seiler of Hotelleriesuisse telling swissinfo.ch that it had issued six to eight work permits for such foreign interns last year. However, that's out of
a total of 1,926 hotel school graduates who
took their final exams and will go on to hotel internships.
Switzerlands many multinational corporations are also a possible source of internship positions for Tunisians, but spots arent
easy to get: according to Patrick Barth, a spokesperson for the Basel-based drug company Novartis, they usually have about 600
applications for the 20 positions available
in one of their most competitive internship
programmes.
And of all the interns employed at Novartis, three-quarters come from France, Germany or Switzerland.
However, according to Crettaz, one Tunisian intern did recently manage to get a
position at Novartis as one of the four currently benefiting from the migration agreement nationwide.
Building networks
Amid such sparse possibilities, Crettaz believes the best hope for the Tunisian internship agreement lies in connecting
with Tunisians running businesses in
Switzerland who are looking to employ
some of their fellow countrymen, as well as
with Swiss companies that do business
in Tunisia. He says initiatives are or will
soon be underway with the Tunisian-Swiss
Chamber of Commerce, the development
organisation Swisscontact and the Tunisian authorities to identify possible partners.
For his part, Ben Taleb believes the programme could become more successful if
more Tunisian students already in Switzerland like him were told about it through
their universities. Plus, he thinks the length
of time the interns are allowed to stay should
be extended so employers are more likely to
be willing to put the effort in to train them.
To find something from Tunisia for 18
months even most young people wouldn't
want those terms, to turn their lives upside
down for that short of a time, he says. And
even after that it's often not easy to find a job
in Tunisia.
Ben Taleb is glad he took advantage of
the chance to stay in Switzerland an extra 18 months and is optimistic hell find a
job quickly upon returning to Tunisia, even
though he will miss everything about the
country that hes called home for the past five years.
We know the law in Switzerland, he
says matter-of-factly. We don't have the
right to work after our studies. So we can
benefit from the internship but after a year
and a half, I will definitely return to Tunis.

The 200 members of the National Council were elected by majority in five singlemember constituencies, and by proportional representation in 21 multi-member constituencies, with the 26 constituencies based on the 26 cantons. The elections were

The 46 members of the Council of States were elected in 20 two-seat constituencies (representing the 20 full cantons) and

The results show a clear shift, due to voter concerns regarding refugee immigration, to the right and an increased support
for the three largest parties, in particular the
Swiss People's Party (SVP) and The Liberals (FDP).
The Swiss People's Party won a record number of seats, taking a third of the
200-seat lower house. Global media commented on the gains of the Swiss People's
Party, linking it to concerns of the Swiss
people on the European migrant crisis.
The shift to the right wing will most probably have an impact on future reforms of

to walk for two minutes and can already see
our signs- Our family has seven Thai and
Chinese restaurants in the vicinity of the station.
EurAsia Info: So many guests come to
this restaurant because they see your sign.
Are there other ways to promote your restaurant? Do you advertise?
Chen Mei Xiang: We have this Asia-Express Restaurant for many years and its name is fairly well-known. So we can rely on
the guests recommending it to other guests.
In their eyes it is equivalent to fast speed and
high quality at the same time. There are not
many such kind of quality fast food restaurants around. Many of our guests know this
is dining at a low price but with superior quality and excellent service attitude.
EurAsia Info: You just mentioned the
quality of the restaurant. How do you control the quality?
Chen Mei Xiang: For example, we make sure keep good quality of the ingredients. We have an Asian supermarket, mainly selling Asian food. It is fresh, specially coming from Thailand with a special delivery,
particularly fresh vegetables because they
are not produced in Switzerland. Rice and
noodles are also coming from Thailand, the
meat is coming from Switzerland.

Chen Mei Xiang: Because you cannot
buy vegetables like son or this water spinach from local producers. On the other
hand, China is too are away; importing it
from there would mean too much trouble.
EurAsia Info: Are there any other potential buyers with you e.g. other restaurants?
Chen Mei Xiang: There are a lot of Vietnamese restaurants also selling vegetables. However if they are just privately ordering,
there is not enough quantity and then the price is too high,
We ship the goods from Thailand directly
to your door. Whether you buy ten packages instead of one, there is a big price difference; for small quantities, the price can
easily be 30% worse. However, we have not
expanded this part of our business, our most
important task is operating a restaurant, just
ensuring that there is enough raw material to
keep the quality of our restaurant.
EurAsia Info: Is someone assisting you
for the transportation process? How do you
know how it works?
Chen Mei Xiang: My husband is in charge
of the supermarket. He is managing the ordering process and any related problems.
EurAsia Info: I see that you are having
a buffet for lunch today. Can tell us more
about that?
Chen Mei Xiang: At noon we normally
serve sushi and Cantonese cuisine and have
a Sichuan-based buffet. Dinner is Sichuanbased, particularly spicy, as well as grilled
fish, pickled fish, salt and pepper pork ribs.
Thats all very popular with our local guests
who like it very much.
We also provide a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere, a friendly service and have
a chef carefully selecting fresh ingredients
and delivering superb craftsmanship cuisine. Our aim is giving you an economical
but noble service with dozens of different
dishes and dim sums, freshly cooked and
very tasty, satisfying your desire for good
food.
EurAsia Info: Do you also serve meals
for groups?
Chen Mei Xiang: We can also receive
groups; we have more than 120 seats. This
normally happens at Chinese New Year festival when we can also provide the facility
for karaoke or for special opportunities, parties or festivals. However, meals for groups
have to be booked in advance.
EurAsia Info: For how much does one
person normally consume here?
Chen Mei Xiang: For the lunch buffet
from Monday to Saturday, the cost per person is Fr.22.50,
The hot pot from Monday to Sunday for
lunch and dinner cots Fr. 35 per person. Our
specialty is fish which is especially popular with Chinese students liking tasty food.
EurAsia Info: I think you are so busy
and have so many things to do. What is your lifestyle to cope with that?
Chen Mei Xiang: I normally get up at
eight every day and then I am been busy until ten or eleven. In the afternoon I can rest
for one to two hours and on Sunday for half a
day. Entrepreneurship is not so easy but fortunately my husband supports me, helping
me to look for the child. The shop is closed

Entrepreneurship is not

reflecting their value
Integrating into the new environment, accepting it and communicating well are very important.
Alone in a foreign land, just having arrived in Switzerland, not knowing the Swiss
language and culture, the differences in
life made her feel lonely and discomfortable, she felt she was a "stranger."
"I need to learn the language, I need to integrate into this society, but also need to integrate into my husband's family" She realized
that their lives were facing true challenges.
Since she lived here now, she felt that she
needs to integrate into the community, so she
learned the language, got to know the Swiss
cuisine, traditional culture and thinking habits. "Although I will not make the same
choices, I can at least understand theirs."
Dealing with the education of children,
He Yan considered herself as a foreign woman married here who can hardly teach the
children the local habits. So she wanted to
bring their child to KITA (day nursery) but
her family could not understand that, they
thought that children should have a personal education from the parents. The family
finally sat together to discuss the issue and
reached a compromise: the child was sent to
KITA two days a week and spent the rest of
the time with her.
milk powder will be quite an attractive market. He Yan thought it could be a good idea
"earning some pocket money".
He Yan decided to start milk purchasing
on a more professional basis and contacted
the factory directly. She could not rely on a
strong brand yet; however, the factory was
best in terms of price and service; so the milk
sales were slowly getting bigger. While He
Yan strongly developed the domestic market, some of the old customers have gradually become the first of her agents. Due to
her business vision, He Yan could seize the
opportunities of industry purchasing.
After a while, He Yan noticed the need to set up a company and to increase the
shopping basis. With this in mind, she founded an own company. After the company
started, she did not focus on powdered milk
only but started to sell other Swiss products
also. Now, the company is trading commodities including milk, baby products and health
products.
"When I opened the company, I was actually the only employee, it was not a large-scale joint-stock company. Doing the
accounting for the tax returns is difficult, therefore I asked a specialist doing that for me."

When we asked what her dream is, He
Yan said: "Now I hope that I can achieve a
good balance between business and family
life in the long run, that more and more individuals or companies have knew my company and that we can reach a long-term cooperation with them."
Ms. He Yan is very satisfied with her current life. "Sometimes I am so busy that my

ain & Company recently published the China Shopper Report 2015 based on a detailed
analysis of shopping behaviour for fastmoving consumer goods in China which
they performed, as in the three years before, together with Kantar Worldpanel.
40000 research participants have been
equipped with a barcode scanner to track
exactly what they purchased.
The value of the goods purchased in traditional grocery stores grew by less than 1%
but supermarkets, mini-marts and convenience stores grew by 9%. There is an opportunity for stores providing convenience for increasingly cash-rich urban customers having
little time for shopping. Online shopping
continued to boom, gaining in online penetration, frequency as well as volumes per order. As shoppers become more comfortable
with online shopping,
Products in low-price-growth categories such as toilet paper, carbonated soft
drinks and fabric softener are bought
more frequently on promotion than other
products.
In general, domestic brands gained
share over their foreign competitors. They
grew by 10% in 2014 and now account for
70% of the market value. The local brands
have contributed 87% to the overall market growth in 2014. The foreign companies
lost share in smaller, medium-sized as well
big cities but particularly in Chinas biggest
cities where they were competitive in the
past. Chinese companies are becoming more and more competitive.
Looking at the different product categories, however, there are still some where
foreign brands gained market share like chocolate and chewing gum categories that
foreign companies actually introduced in
China (see graph). The foreign market share in beer increased due to Budweiser and
Heineken both taking shares from local
beer brands, the result of consumers desire
to trade up. LOral gained market share by
expanding distribution in smaller cities, introducing in-store hair care advisors and launching new products.

The company along with Patek Philippe

to be one of the "big three" Swiss watchmakers. Past owners of Vacheron Constantin watches include Napoleon Bonaparte,
Pope Pius XI, the Duke of Windsor and
Harry Truman.
The company was founded in 1755
by Jean-Marc Vacheron, an independent
watchmaker in Geneva, Switzerland.In
1770, his company created the first complication, and nine years later he designed
the first engine-turned dials.

Tudor
With the return of Tudor watches to the
United States after a long absence, American
watch fans once again have the opportunity
to purchase timepieces from Rolexs lower
priced little brother Tudor watch brand.
Below, we take a look at some of the Tudor
watches that U.S. watch collectors had been missing out on, along with some current
Tudor watches available in the States
that have been released at the Baselworld
watch fairs in recent years.
The Tudor Heritage Black Bay is inspired by a Tudor watch for divers that made
its first appearance in 1954. The watch also
pays homage to Tudor watches of the 1970s
with its burgundy-colored, unidirectional
bezel (and burgundy accent on the crown).
The watch has a steel case with a diameter of 41 mm, water-resistant to 200 meters
(660 feet).
Omega
Omega SA is a Swiss luxury watchmaker based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland.
Britain's Royal Flying Corps chose Ome-
ga watches in 1917 as its official timekeepers for its combat units, as did the American army in 1918. Omega watches were the
choice of NASA and the first watch on the
Moon in 1969. Omega has been the official
timekeeping device of the Olympic Games
since 1932. James Bond has worn it in films
since 1995; other famous Omega wearers,
past and present, include John F. Kennedy,
Prince William, and Buzz Aldrin. Omega is
owned by the Swatch Group.
The forerunner of Omega, La Generale Watch Co, was founded at La Chauxde-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 by Louis
Brandt, who assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by
local craftsmen. He sold his watches from
Italy to Scandinavia by way of England, his
chief market. In 1894, his two sons LouisPaul and Csar developed a revolutionary
in-house manufacturing and total production control system that allowed component parts to be interchangeable. Watches
developed with these techniques were marketed under the Omega brand of La Generale Watch Co. By 1903 the success of the
Omega brand led to La Generale Watch Co
to spin off the Omega brand as its own company, and the Omega Watch Co was officially founded in 1903.
Longines
Longines is a luxury watch company
based in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Founded
by Auguste Agassiz in 1832, it is owned by
the Swatch Group. Its winged hourglass logo is the oldest registered for a watchmaker.
Longines is known for its "Aviators" watches. A company director was a friend of
Charles Lindbergh; after his transatlantic
flight, Lindbergh designed a pilot watch to
help with air navigation. Built to his specifications, it is still produced today.
Longines provided timers used at the first
modern Olympics in 1896. In 1899, a Longines watch went to the North Pole with Arctic explorer Louis Amde de Savoie. It was
the first to use automatic timekeeping for the
Federal Gymnastics, at Basel in 1912. Today, Longines sells sport watches and chronographs.

Many Swiss and foreign residents alike purchase optional private/household insurance to cover themselves in the case of
fire or water damage as well as theft. Be
sure to buy a policy appropriate for the value
of all goods. This type of insurance is often
required of tenants by landlords.
Personal liability insurance is sometimes
bundled with household insurance and covers the policyholder in the event of damage

Most people in Switzerland live in apartments. The key to finding one that's right for
you is knowing how the market works. This
will help get you started.
With 203.5 people per square kilometre,
Switzerland ranks lower than many European countries in terms of population density. That said, most people live in rented
apartments.
Places to live can now be found largely through the internet, with agencies
like Homegate or Immoscout24 offering
easily searchable databases for places to rent
or buy, including some that are furnished.
WGZimmer, also called Flatrooms.com, is
a popular site for posting rooms for rent in a
shared living situation or even entire apartments. Often, Swiss will rent out their entire
apartment for a short-term period (that can
last indefinitely) while they are on holiday
or working abroad.

People abroad often incorrectly assume that the fact that there are four national
languages in Switzerland means that every
Swiss speaks four languages. Swiss populations tend to stay in their own language regions and consume media in their own language if possible.
The divide between the French- and German-speaking areas is an undeniable reality, jokingly known to the Swiss themselves as the Rstigraben, or "rsti ditch" the
name refers to a typical potato dish popular in German-speaking Switzerland. As in
other countries, languages compulsorily
learned at school tend to be forgotten in adult
life. Still, bilingual individuals are common
enough in many parts of Switzerland.

Before the advent of railways, stagecoaches brought post and passengers through
the Alps. To this day the Swiss Post operates
a long-distance bus service covering mountain and rural routes not served by railways.
The buses and trains form a seamless
web covering Switzerland, and the timetable of the post buses is carefully coordinated with those of connecting trains. In the
major cities there are both trams (streetcars)
and buses in operation. Ships and boats operate scheduled services on many of the Swiss
lakes and rivers.
