The Slocan Lake Stewardship Society is offering three family

oriented nature programs in August to explore different habitats within the Slocan Lake watershed. Each day will have local
naturalists and scientists on tap to make the day interesting.
The first program, Lakeshore Labyrinth was held on
Saturday, August 6. We hope you enjoyed the day! The
second program, Creatures Big and Small will take place
on Saturday, August 13. Well explore the Bear and Fish
lakes pass along Highway 31A and discover fascinating
facts about bears, toads, insects and plants from local scientists Wayne McCrory, Marcy Mahr and Daniel Hellyer.
The meeting place is at Fish Lake Rest Area. This event is

The West Kootenay Kennel Club is hosting their 42nd

annual All Breed Championship Dog Show, Obedience
and Rally Obedience trials. The show will be held at the
Kinnaird Park Community Church field (the old Kinnaird
Middle School) in Castlegar on August 19, 20 and 21.
Four all breed shows will start Friday, August 19 running
through to Sunday August 21. There will be two shows Friday, the first starting at 8 am, the second starting at 1 pm.
Saturday and Sunday there will be one show per day starting at 8 am. Four obedience and four rally obedience trials
will be held Saturday and Sunday starting at 8 am. Saturday
evening will be our famous bring your own meat BBQ. Many
raffle prizes and silent auction items will be offered throughout the shows and will be given out at the BBQ.
The public is invited to come out and watch the dogs
working. Lets all cheer on the junior handlers! There is
no charge for spectators. The BBQ bus concession will be
on site all weekend. Please leave your pets at home where
they will be comfortable from the heat. Only dogs entered
in the shows will be allowed on the grounds.
