Chemical resistance
At room temperature the cured silicone sealant is resistant for a
short time to diluted (5%) acids and lyes/alkalis as well as
commercially available cleaning agents and disinfectants (except
those containing iodine).
Concentrated acids and lyes/alkalis destroy silicone rubber
over time.
Solvents and mineral oils cause cured silicone to swell.
Consequently, proper functioning of the sealant should be
checked after exposure to a solvent / mineral oil.
Not to be
Used on areas immersed in water
Painted
Safety precautions
Keep out of reach of children.
Read the material safety data sheet.
Eyes and hands must be suitably protected.
Avoid contact with eyes/skin.
Only use in well ventilated areas.

Opening
1. Clean the plastic pipes. Expansion of the intumescent material
during a fire acts to close the plastic pipe. Very dirty pipes with,
for example, remains of mortar, may lead to a delay in this
closing action. Badly soiled plastic pipes should, therefore, be
cleaned in the area where the CP 643 firestop collar is to
be installed.
Application of firestop system
2. Seal the opening. Gaps must be closed with FS-ONE. The
approved methods vary and are given in the specific UL system.
3. Close the CP 643 firestop collar. Place the CP 643 firestop collar
around the plastic pipe and lock the closure with firm pressure
until it latches.
4. Attach fastening hooks. The fastening hooks can be attached to
various points on the metal housing. This allows the fastening
points to be made to suit the space available in each case.
The hooks must be positioned as symmetrically as possible.
The required number of fastening hooks is indicated on
the packaging.
5. Fastening the CP 643 firestop collar. Only when fastened properly
can CP 643 protect against fire passing through.
- Mark the fastening points.
- Drill holes with a Hilti rotary hammer drill (i.e. TE 5) or,
depending on base material, fasten using Hilti power actuated
tool (e.g. DXA 40).

Opening
1. Clean and pre-moisten surfaces.
- Cables and cable supporting structures must be installed in
compliance with local building and electrical standards.
Application of firestop compound
2. Mix the mortar.
- Add water to mortar in a ratio of about 2 gallons to 40 lbs.
(water to mortar). Stir the mixture thoroughly with, for
example, a Hilti mixing paddle. The mix ratio of water
to FS 635 determines the desired consistency (stiffness).
- Do not use any other binders or additives/aggregates.
3. Apply the mortar.
- Use forms on one or both sides for larger penetrations, as
needed. Apply mixed mortar in the opening using a trowel or
a pump and compact it. Make sure all gaps and spaces are
completely filled and closed.
4. For maintenance reasons, a penetration seal could be
permanently marked with an identification plate. In such a
case mark the identification plate and fasten it in a visible position
next to the seal.
4. Fasten identification
plate in place

STEP 1 - PREPARATION: All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry and frost free prior to application of firestopping materials.
STEP 2 - FORMING: Cut forms (i.e. plywood or foam insulation board) to fit as closely as possible around all penetrating items. To keep FS 635
from sticking to the forms, cover them with plastic or apply an appropriate release agent. Fasten forms to the surface of the substrate or friction fit
forms within opening to allow a min. 2-1/2" space for FS 635. Seal any remaining gaps with Hilti CF 128 Filler Foam and allow it to cure for at least
1 hour.
STEP 3 - FIRESTOP COMPOUND: Mix FS 635 with water according to the instructions on the container. Apply mixture in the forms to a min. depth
of 2-1/2". Using a trowel, push the material in place to completely fill the opening and smooth the surface for neat, finished appearance.
STEP 4 - REMOVE FORMS (optional): Forms may be removed after 24 hours.

Use the Estimation Chart (Table 3) found on page 113. Find the pipe size across the top of the table and match
it with the hole diameter found along the side of the chart. The value from the table represents the volume of firestop
per penetration.
Calculate the area of the pipe. Use the Calculation Chart For Pipe Areas (Table 2) found on page 112. Find the pipe size
that is used and note the Area located in the far right column OR calculate the total cross-sectional area of the penetration
using the following formula (note: all values should be in units of inches):
AP = (rP2 ) x 3.14
AP = total area of penetrating pipe
rP = radius of penetrating pipe = diameter
2
2.
3.
Subtract the area of the penetrating pipe from the area of the opening and multiply by the depth of the
firestop required:
Total firestop required = (Ao - AP ) x FD
Total firestop required per penetration. For wall systems requiring
firestopping on both sides, multifly by 2.
FD = firestop depth
Use the methods stated above, but add all of the penetration areas (AP) together before subtracting from the
total area of the opening (Ao).
Sample Problem
APPLICATION:
3-hour fire rated concrete floor. Opening size is 8" dia. steel sleeve with 6" dia. steel pipe.
Use UL System CAJ 1155 (1/4" depth FS-ONE)
Ao = 8" diameter
50.24 in2
AP = 6" diameter

Terms & Definitions
1.
FIRESTOP SYSTEM
2.
The period of time a building or building component maintains the ability to confine
a fire or continues to perform a structural function or both. This is usually determined
or measured by ASTM E-119 test standard.
3.
THROUGH - PENETRATION
4.
Any item passing completely through a wall or floor, such as pipes, conduits, cables, etc.
5.
ANNULAR SPACE
(ANNULUS)
6.
When listed on UL system drawing, allows penetrating item to touch edge of opening.
7.
In section 4-5.4.3.4, it requires that sprinkler pipes in seismic areas, have a minimum
annular space of 1-inch for pipes 1" through 3-1/2" and 2-inches for pipes 4" and larger.
Exceptions to this standard do exist. Please consult NFPA Standard #13 for details.
8.
PERCENT FILL
9.
N = number of wires
rc = radius of wire,
ro = radius of opening
Material used in firestop systems (e.g mineral wool, backer rod or CF 128 Foam)
to set the depth and provide support for the fill, void cavity material.
12. UL 1479
13. UL 2079
14. F RATING
The time a firestop system prevents the passage of flame through an opening as determined
by ASTM E-814 and UL 1479.
15. T RATING
The time for the temperature on the unexposed surface of the firestop system or any
penetrating item to rise 325 F above its initiai temperature as determine by ASTM
E-814 and UL 1479.
16. L RATING
An optional measurement of the rate of air leakage through test samples resulting
from a specified air pressure difference applied across the surface of the test samples.
17. UL
Piping system which is completely enclosed, usually carrying fluids under pressure.
Examples: hot/cold water distribution, sprinkler piping, chilled water supply and return.
21. INTUMESCENT
A term describing materials which expand significantly (typically 2 to 10 times original volume)
when exposed to heat. Intumescent materials are often used as firestops, particularly around
combustible penetrants.
