If practicable, gather the Ps on the floor facing the board. Maybe 2-3
rows.
Talk about the topic, e.g. pets / farm animals (or whatever the topic is
about) and ask simple questions.
Write on the board any vocabulary the Ps need to know. Work out the
meaning (a bit of BM is ok, if necessary) this is separate to the
flashcards and might be adjectives or adverbs that are difficult to find
pictures for.
Present and activate the vocabulary flashcards. (animals in the story)
See if they can predict what the story might be about.

Jig - saw reading: Give each group sentence strips (the number of strips
you use is based on the general ability of your class) and some manila
card. Each group needs some glue.
Groups work together to assemble the story in the correct order and paste
it on the card.
KPI 5: Yr 2 LO 12 / Yr 3 LO 9.
Each group reads out their story.
Role play.
Yr 3 LO 9 Worksheet
Listen to the story. When you hear the animal that matches the
picture put a number, 1, 2 or 3 in the box in the order of the story.

in the canteen.
Hey Paven, said Zarif, do you have a pet? Sure I
do Zarif, he answered, Ive got a chicken.
A chicken? they all asked, why?
Why not! exclaimed Paven, a chicken gives
us
meat and eggs.
Oh yes, they all said, that is a good idea.
How about you Zarif? asked Mei Lou, do you have a pet? Of
course I do, said Zarif, a cow.
A cow? they all asked, why?
Because a cow gives us meat and milk, he
answered.
Oh yes, they all said, it does too!
Ive got a pet too! said Siti.
Have you? they all asked, what do
you
have?
A snake, said Siti brightly, Ive got a
snake!
A snake? they all asked, why?
A snake gives us.. a snake gives us
Yes? they all asked, a snake gives us.. what..?
Umm., I know, a snake gives us .... a brilliant smile, said
Siti proudly.
Oh, really? they all said scornfully, Lets make a snack of Sitis
