The environment is something you are very familiar with. It's everything that makes up our surroundings and affects our ability to live on the earththe air we breathe, the water that covers most of the earth's surface, the plants and animals around us, and much more. In recent years, scientists have been carefully examining the ways that people affect the environment. They have found that we are causing air pollution, deforestation, acid rain, and other problems that are dangerous both to the earth and to ourselves. These days, when you hear people talk about the environment, they are often referring to the overall condition of our planet, or how healthy it is.
What is happening to the
environment? Our environment is in need of a lot of work. The ozone layer is quickly rotting away; the waters are polluted; and the rain forest is rapidly shrinking in size due to the ignorance of land developers. So why isn't anything being done? Everyone thinks if they ignore the problem, it will go away.
What are the natural aspects of
the environment? How can the environmental impact of World Bank lending be calculated? The Operations Policy on Development Policy Lending (DPL), requires that the World Bank systematically analyses whether specific country policies supported by an operation are likely to have 'significant effects' on the countrys environment, forests, and other natural resources. Through this analysis, the World Bank hopes to ensure that there is adequate capacity in the country to deal with adverse effects on the environment, forests, and other natural resources that the policies could trigger, even at the programme design stage.
Conceptual How do we destroy the
environment? Pollution - land, air, water, and nuclear pollution have had many adverse influences on the environment. Other pollutants also have negative effects on the environment Deforestation - natural habitats of animals are destroyed, the organisms are force to migrate or die, disrupting the food chain/web and thus the ecosystem and also resulting in negative effects on the environment.
Why is it important to care
about the Environment? The more you dont care about our environment, the more it will become polluted with contaminants and toxins that have a harmful impact on our health.
Debatable Is man greatest threat to the
Environment? Researchers who analysed 30,000 academic studies dating back to 1970 said man was responsible for changes that ranged from the loss of ice sheets to the collapse in numbers of many species of wildlife.
