Stamford Public Schools Named Abbie Lareau

Stamford, Conn.Superintendent Stamford Public Schools (SPS) Earl Kim and the Stamford Board of
Education (BOE) announced the appointment of Abbie Lareau as director of School Improvement and
Professional Development, Secondary. Lareau will be responsible for directing the school
improvement planning process, supporting the secondary schools in meeting school improvement
goals, and establishing professional development plans for teachers and administrators in the district.
Lareau replaces Dr. Carrie Chiappetta who recently left the district.
We are very fortunate to have Abbie join the Stamford Public Schools, said
Superintendent Kim. Her wealth of experience in curriculum, instruction, and professional
development, complemented by her many years of teaching experience will certainly help our district
continue to meet the needs of both students and staff.
Lareau has more than 20 years experience in education and management. Most recently
Lareau was director of Curriculum and Assessment in the Nantucket Public Schools District in
Massachusetts, a position she held since 2013. Prior to that role, she served as a consultant for eight
years with Education Connection, one of Connecticuts Regional Education Service Centers (RESC),
and as an adjunct instructor at Empire State College in Saratoga, N.Y., and University of
Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS). Additionally, Lareau has nine years secondary teaching experience
in Springfield Public Schools in Springfield, Mass.
Lareau recently completed her doctoral studies in Teacher Education and School
Improvement from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and will be conferred on September 1,
2016. In addition, she holds a Master of Education degree in English from UMASS, a Bachelor of Arts
degree in English from Providence College, and dual-teaching certification in English from Westfield
State University, Westfield, Mass.
