GENERAL

Safety precautions
Read the Assembly Instructions manual prior to performing any work on the ION-IX
system. Strict compliance with the instructions in this Assembly Instructions manual is
required. This manual and all attendant special documentation are to be kept in the
direct vicinity of the ION-IX system.
Failure to observe these instructions can result in permanent damage to the unit,
significant property damage, or personal injury or death.
All people involved with the assembly or other works to the ION-IX system must
comply with all current environmental, health and safety regulations in addition to any
other site specific regulations. Works must only be carried out by specially trained
personnel and, if necessary, under supervision of a person qualified for this work.
Warnings are posted throughout the manual. These warnings are designated by an
exclamation mark inside an equilateral triangle.

First aid
If by any reason, a person gets injured or is in a need for help, follow these
instructions as a minimum.

Make sure the area is clear and safe to any other person or to yourself before taking
any action.
Remove the injured person immediately from the area if chemicals are cause of injury.
Call help services asap.
Splashes of chemicals in the eyes must be blown out with the mouth. Then rinse eyes
with plenty of water.
Do not wipe with cloth !
If the victim is not breathing, perform a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation or use a
respirator until qualified medical personnel arrive on the scene.
Inform medical staff of all facts regarding the incident and inform him by what the
incident is caused.
Verify on the Material Safety Data Sheet what actions to be taken.
Never leave the victim unattended !

2.0

TRANSPORTATION OF THE ION-IX

After a successful FAT ( Factory Acceptance Test) of the ION-IX valve on the test rig,
the ION-IX valve will be packed into a wooden crate.

The motor gearbox combination is also packed inside a box or is already mounted on
the ION-IX valve.
The ION-IX valve has the facility to fit lifting lugs on the multi-port valve. These lifting
lugs are used to lift the ION-IX valve out of the wooden crate and then to place the
ION-IX valve into its site location.

Due to the weight of the ION-IX valve and the motor gearbox combination, some lifting
beams or other gear is required for easy and safe manipulation. Verify the drawing /
datasheet of the ION-IX valve and Motor gearbox about the weight of the equipment.
Lifting straps could also be used around the support frame to lift the whole ION-IX
valve + frame combination on its site location.

The ION-IX valve is made out of securely machined parts and should be
protected from any mechanical damage. Any damage can cause severe sealing issues.
To avoid getting any undesired material into the ION-IX multi-port valve, leave all
protection on the equipment as long as needed.

3.0

SECURING THE ION-IX MULTI-PORT VALVE

Holes are foreseen on the legs of the metal frame of the ION-IX multi-port valve. This
allows to secure the valve + frame combination on the structure of the building.

4.0

MOUNTING OF THE ABSOLUTE ENCODER

The absolute encoder is a very fragile instrument and should be protected

from any shock or other.
Put the encoder and shaft on top of the drive shaft.
In a multiple drive system, only one drive shaft will carry the absolute encoder.

Make sure that all parts are well tightened and that NO SLIP is noticed in
between the body of the absolute encoder and the ION-IX body.

5.0

PROCESS CONNECTIONS
The process inlet and outlet connections are located at the top and the bottom plates
of the ION-IX multi-port valve. The nozzle connections for the ion exchange vessels
are located on the sides of the ION-IX multi-port valve. The process connections are
prepared for union couplings, flanges or threaded ends for easy connections. Verify
the correct standard used for the different connections.

ATTENTION !
Before mounting and connecting the ION-IX multi-port valve, welding residual,
rust or other pollution must be removed from the pipelines to be connected.
All pipe connections to the ION-IX multi-port valve must be installed stress-free.
Expansion joints are recommended in case of vibrations and pulsations.

6.0

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
The motor gearbox unit requires an electrical cable which is connected to the
frequency controller. The main electrical panel provides power to the frequency
controller.
The absolute encoder is directly connected to the frequency controller.
Use only shielded cable for the connection of the absolute encoder! Apply correct
mounting of the cable to the frequency controller and the encoder connector.

7.0

STORAGE
Short term ( less than 6 months )

When the ION-IX valve is stored for less than one week, no special requirements or
actions are required.
Long term ( more than 6 months )

When the ION-IX is standing still for an extensive time, the gaskets could set
themselves in the outgoing ports which increases the torque. This could lead to
blockage of the internal process disc. We advise to loosen the top and bottom plates
such a way that the pressure on the top- and bottom O-rings are minimised. This will
result in a non-pressure safe multi-port valve! All bolts must be retightened before
putting the valve back to service.

The resin needs to become preserved for long term storage. Verify the datasheet of
the resin supplier for long term storage of resin.

8.0

WARRANTY
Should any defects in material or workmanship of PuriTechs supplies be found during
a period of eighteen (18) months after shipment.
PuriTech shall remedy such defects by supplying the parts for repair and/or
replacement at PuriTechs own cost on Free Delivered basis, however, the liability for
consequential damages shall be excluded.
The mechanical warranty is void if the customer fails to maintain the system in
accordance with PuriTechs instructions.
LIMIT OF LIABILITY :
If any action arising out of this order (or any warranty hereunder), PuriTech shall not
be liable for loss of profit, loss of operation time, or loss of/or reduction in use of any
facilities or any portion thereof, increased expense of construction, operation of
maintenance, expense of replacement products (other than products supplied
hereunder), or for any special, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for
damages of any kind in excess of the sales order price
