Objective
To further increase a relevant knowledge base that will enhance the skills sets already developed
through years spent in various fields: floor laying, administration, management, and
education/training with an emphasis on curriculum development; the expectation is that success
in this program will help to advance opportunities and success for students in my care in future
training programs.

Professional Experience: Education and Training


September 2005-Present, Coordinator/ Instructor Floor Layer Apprenticeship and Training
Coordinator responsibilities include the strategic planning, organizing, staffing,
leading/directing, and controlling of the Missouri Kansas Floor Layers Joint Apprenticeship
Program.
Instructor responsibilities include the provision of training to students (apprentices and/or
journeypersons) in appropriate areas of floor covering and safety. Ensure up-to-date subjects and
methods are implemented by developing and maintaining curriculum, participate in advisory
committees, and attending professional career related functions.
September 2007-Present, Carpenters International Training Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Chosen by the national union management to participate in the development of training materials
because of recognized teaching skill and extensive field experience. Materials are used in over
200 training centers. Contribute to effective teaching and learning elements in materials by
designing the scope of content; provide clarity, completeness, and coherence to content; design
test materials; choose appropriate illustrations; and design and review properly supplementing
PowerPoints. In this role the exercise of teamwork with other SMEs is critical. Completed
manuals and instructor guides for Standard Skills for Floor Layers, Resilient Flooring, and
Carpet. Currently working on a manual for Resinous Flooring installation.
September 2008-Present, Carpenters International Training Instructor, Las Vegas, Nevada
Chosen by national union management to teach new instructors how to instruct in floor laying.
Instructor skills required include how to develop a lesson plan, how to use PowerPoints as
effective tools, how to communicate product information, and how to do hands on

demonstrations. Chief among the instructor skills is the ability to critique the lesson plans
developed by students.
August 1978 September 2005, Floor Layer Installer/Foreman
As a foreman the skills learned as an installer are used to teach: ensuring the acceptability of the
work a crew performs and remediating crew members through re-teaching; managing budgets
ranging from many thousands of dollars to many millions of dollars

September 1993 August 1996, Childrens Pastor, Belton Assembly of God
Responsibilities included maintaining standards set by the church doctrine and translating
doctrine to make it palatable to children; also infusing events such as Easter egg hunts, church
camp, vacation Bible school, childrens plays and musicals with educationally and doctrinally
valuable instruction
June 1994 - May 2003, Kansas City Sectional Junior Bible Quiz Coordinator
Responsibilities included scheduling the competitive matches, printing the question sets to be
used during the matches, assembling the questions and rules for each room, training the officials
for the competitive matches, creating the age group divisions for the competitions, keeping the
statistics of all teams and individuals for advancement to the District completion, and monitoring
the events of the day. Indicators of success: at the beginning of holding the position, 36 teams;
upon resignation, 100 teams.
July 1999-June 2005, Southern Missouri District Junior Bible Quiz Coordinator
Represents a promotion with a larger geographic area the whole southern half of Missouriand
management and coordination responsibilities for larger numbers of coaches and teams of
students.

July 2003 June 2005, Gulf Regional Junior Bible Quiz Coordinator
Represents even larger geographic responsibility-- Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
and Tennessee-- but indicates the success resulting from the practice of organizing, managing,
coordinating, and teaching from other areas.

Employment-Related Honors
May 2008: Appointed by to Co-chaired the INSTALL curriculum committee in the
presentation of materials and format of the new training manuals to floor covering manufacturer
representatives from the United States, Canada, and Europe.

August 2009 December 2010: Chosen to work with a group of SMEs from around the United
States to advise and prepare new standards to be adopted by the American National Standards
Institute, the gold standard of regulatory bodies in the United States for floor covering.
Fall 2011 Present: Led the formation of a Union Apprenticeship & Training (A&T) Funds
and Union Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) to oversee the floor layer training
program covering the western portion of the state of Missouri. The committee reports to the
Department of Labor on all facets of the training program.
These include, but are not limited to the establishment of a yearly budget and training guidelines
for all students and contractors.
December 2014 Present: Committee member through the Carpenters International Training
Fund developing a certification program for substrate floor preparation. The committee works
with manufacturing representatives from companies based in the United States, Canada, and
Europe.
