Course Description: Algebra students will develop the necessary mathematical skills needed
to be successful in future math courses at Dundee-Crown High School.

Course Objectives: This course includes the study of linear, quadratic, and exponential
functions, focusing on real world applications associated with each type of function. Students will
also be asked to utilize the following mathematical practices:

Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

Attend to precision.
Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.

Classroom Expectations: Students are expected to adhere to the same rules and guidelines in
this classroom as the rules outlined in the student handbook for Dundee-Crown High School.

My expectations are for every student to respect themselves and their classmates, come
to class prepared and ready to work. I expect each student to act and behave
appropriately. As disagreements to these expectations occur, I will inform the student
and expect improvement. Should there be no changes in behavior, I will take the
appropriate actions.

Assignments are an important part of being successful in mathematics. Students are

expected to accurately complete ALL assignments in PENCIL.

Students will be allowed to go to the bathroom/locker/etc., ONLY if he/she has their

passbook. (Unless it is an emergency.)

Tardies are unacceptable. You are expected to be in your seat when the bell rings or you
will be tardy. Consequences will be issued from the Deans Office.

No cell phones or IPODs will be allowed in class. You are in school to learn
and both of these cause distractions that limit learning. If a student refuses
to keep their cell phone or IPOD in their backpack, they will immediately be
sent to the Deans Office.

Homework: Homework will be assigned from the textbook and/or from worksheets EVERY night

and is an important part of preparing for class. To come to class without completing homework means
students will not get the full benefit of that class, because lack of preparation limits participation.

Make-Up Work: You have two calendar school days to complete work for every EXCUSED
absence. If you missed a test or quiz, you are responsible for coming to me to set up
a date to take the test or quiz. Tests and quizzes must be made up within a calendar week or
they will be recorded as zeroes in the grade book. The grade will remain a zero until the test is made
up.

Instances of academic dishonesty: Copying anothers homework, wandering eyes during

tests, cut-and-paste, plagiarism, over-reliance on parental help, etc. will not be tolerated and will
result in, at the least, a grade of zero for the assignment. Refer to the Student Handbook for the
school/district policy on academic dishonesty and its potential consequences.

Student Evaluation: Grades will be assigned on the basis of a percentage of total points
earned. Points will be earned via ASSIGNMENTS and ASSESSMENTS.
Grades will be assigned as follows: 20% - Assignments
60% - Assessments
20% - Final Exam

A
B
C
D
F

90%-100%
80%-89%
70%-79%
60%-69%
Below 60%

Grades will be updated in Infinite Campus every week. Due to the complexity of student work, as well
as class size, assignments will not always be immediately returned, although I will do my best to get
them back to you as soon as possible.
