TOP PG ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMS IN INDIA

FOREWORD
Dear PG Engineering Aspirants,
GATE is the largest PG Engineering Entrance Exam of the country. It also happens to be the toughest. The pass percentage for GATE has been diminishing in spite of a growing interest by students to appear for it owing to the PSU
recruitment through GATE. Students who dont qualify in GATE have many other
options open to them to do their post-graduation.
Careers360 brings the many options that are open to all students of the
country irrespective of their resident status which is generally a criterion for
most state held entrance tests or admissions. This should help out students in
deciding if they wish to pursue their PG in Engineering in eminent universities
or institutes apart from the IITs and IISc Bangalore which happen to be through
GATE only.
We take a look at each of the PG Entrance Exams that are most commonly
preferred by the students with brief and important details for each one of them.
This book aims to be a concise handbook for the Top PG Entrance Exams in
the country so that students can know the other alternate options available to
them thus enabling them to apply and prepare for them
Wishing you all the best in your PG Entrance Exams and further studies!!
All the Best!
Team Careers360

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE PG

ENGINEERING ADMISSIONS

he next step to the engineering graduates in India is either a career or

further studies. Further studies generally entail admissions to the Masters in Technology (M.Tech) or Masters in Engineering (M.E) courses.
Admissions to these specialized PG programmes in Engineering are
open mostly to engineering graduates through an entrance exam that tests their
caliber in handling the specialized engineering post graduate programmes. Some
Programmes also allow for the postgraduates in Science if they fulfill the eligibility
criteria.
M.Tech admissions in the country across all the universities and institutes in
general start in May with applications available from March onwards depending
upon the institutes and universities. GATE Applications, however, are available
generally in September with the exam held in the last week of January and first
week of February in multiple sessions. Admissions to most PG courses in engineering are over by June/July at the most. All states allow for the PG Engineering
admissions through GATE with the exception of some of the southern states like
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha who also hold their entrance exams in addition to allowing admissions to the GATE qualified candidates. Private Universities
like BITS, VIT University, and SRM University also hold their own entrance exams.
Candidates who qualify in GATE can apply to most of the Universities and institutes on the basis of their GATE scores provided they meet the specified eligibility criteria in terms of academic qualifications, age limit in some cases and pass
percentage as specified by the institutes. In most cases, such candidates have
to face an interview before they are allowed admissions.
Candidates who have appeared for the other PG entrance exams will have to
check the results before applying for counselling. All the M.Tech admissions will
entail document verification with candidates needing to submit the originals of the
specified certificates. Only once these are found to be in order, candidates will be
allowed to confirm their admissions by payment of the admission fees.
