Whatiswagetype?Whatisit'susesandwhatprimarywagetypeandsecondarywagetype?
WagetypesinGeneralAreofTHREEtypes:
1.ModelWagetypes(DialogWagetypes,PrimaryWagetypes,CustomerWagetypes).
Thesearethewagetypeswhicharedefinedbasedonthecompanyrequirement.Theyarethestandardwagetypes
definedbySAPandtheystartwithanumberlike1012,butcustomershavetocopythesewagetypestomake
thereownwagetype.Thatcopiedwagetypewillstartwithaletter.viz:M1234,MXXX.ExamplesofPrimary
WagetypeBasicPay,HRA,AdditionalPaymentsetc.
2.SecondaryORTechnicalWagetypes.ThesystemdefinestherevalueANDtheseWagetypesarenotaPartof
EmployeeMasterdata,thesestartswithaslash(\).

WeareimplementingVersion4.0BatacompanyinDubai,just'acrosstheway'fromyou.Ihavebeen
workingonpayrollinSouthAfricasincethebeginningof1998andthisismyfirstimplementationonthe
newinternationalversion,withoutacountryspecificpayrolltouseasabase.Wehavehadsomestrange
problemswithoddHRpoliciesandithascertainlyaddedtothechallengeofimplementingpayrollinthe
UAE.OurmandatehereasconsultantsistoimplementSAPstandard,soweareextremelylimitedwhen
itcomestoABAPsoranysuchthing.Wehaveusedfeaturestothebestofourknowledgetodowhatwe
can,butthereareanumberofvalidationsthattheuserswishtodo,butarelimitedbecauseoftheproject
managementrulesonthemandate.TheABAPswehavehadapprovedareabsolutenecessitieswithout
whichwewouldhaveonlyahalfbakedimplementation.Iwouldliketoifpossibleprovidesomesolutions
tothevalidationissuesourclienthas.
I'veheardthroughtheSAPgrapevinethatonecanusefeaturestovalidatepayrollmasterdataforwagetypes.
Forexample,thesituationwehavecomeacrosshereisthatthecompanywouldliketovalidateanumberof
differentpartsofmasterdataforcertainwagetypesthattheiremployeesdoordon'tget:Forawagetype
"BachelorAllowance"(whichreferstobachelorapartmentsconfusing!)theywanttovalidateagainstthe
maritalstatusoftheemployee.IfheissinglehegetsXamountaccordingtohisgrade,ifheismarriedhegetsY
amountaccordingtohisgrade.SoT510aloneisnotenough.Andthetwowagetypesshouldbemutually
exclusive,i.e.ifhegetsone,hecan'thavetheotheronanadditionalIT0014record.
Anotherexampleisvalidatingtheemployee'sbasicsalaryagainstatablelikeT510N.Theproblembeingthat
T510NvalidatesagainstANNUALsalarynotmonthlyandIcannotfindanywhereinthesystemwhereonecan
setittolookattheamountfieldforthebasicsalarywagetyperatherthantheannualsalaryfield.Alsothisisthe
onlytableIcanfindthatallowsforvalidationagainstarangeperwagetypepergrade(payscalegroup).
Wearecurrentlylookingatuserexitstotryandmakeaplan,butthat'sabitlimitedforthecomplexityofthis
issue.
Ifthereareanyfeaturesthatyouperhapsknowofthatcanbeadjustedtovalidatecertainpayrollmasterdata
againstwagetypes,Iwouldbegladofyouradvice.

Mostoftheworkyouaredescribingisoutsideofpayroll.Muchofthiscanbedonethroughthebenefitsmodule
orusingIT0014orIT0015.Someofthesetypesofpaymentsarejustdynamicallygeneratedwagetypesthatyou
willhavetocreatebasedontheemployeesubgrouporotherparametersthatexist.Forexample,wehave
transportationallowancebasedonwheretheemployeelivesandwhereheworks.Wewillsetupaseparate
IT0006subtypefortheseandthenreadtheminpayrollandthenmakeadecisiononthem.(Wewillalsolookat
whatothercountriesareusingandusethemasamodel
tosupportourneeds.)
WehaveonlyseenT510NusedsuccessfullyintheUSAwiththeUSpayroll.Thesameforbenefits.Wehave
chosentosetourcountrycodetotheUSbecauseourcorporatemodelfollowstheUSApatternsforpayrollthe
closest.WestillwillhavetowritealotofPCRs,etc.
Withoutwritingauserexitwedon'tknowhowtousetablet510n,exceptonanannualbasis.Wehavetriedto
useitonamonthlybasisalso.
WehavewrittenSAPaboutthatandtheysaidweweretheonlyothercompanyoutsideoftheUSAthatwanted
that.Now,ofcourse,youcouldletthemknowyourproblems,too.(SAPwilldenythatweaskedthemabout
this,unlessyouareveryclearwiththem,thatothersarereallyinterestedinusingthisfunctionality.)
Wewanttorunpayrollswith4currencies.AndSAPhasproblemswiththatalso.WatchoutforfakeFXgains
andlosses.
Wearenowworkingwith4.5A.
Wearegoingtohavequiteafewdynamicallygeneratedwagetypes,becauseofwhichemployeegroupor
subgrouporpersonnelareaorsubareaanemployeeisin.(ThesewillnotappearinanyIT).
