The best advice i can give you is be yourself! Do not go in there pretending your something your not!

I was
honest with them, told them how important my friends and family were to me and just told them honestly
what I thought of the school, the new systems and teachers and them. Of course, do not come across rudely
or abruptly. Good luck! It is a brilliant thing to achieve so i hope you do well!

I found that if you say you want to give something back to the school the teachers realy appreciatte that and
then also say that if you headboy you would be able to help with any problem that any student might have it
sounds patronising but they appreciate it

Mohammed Ali once said, "what keeps me going is goals", i believe that this is true for myself as well, if you
have nothing to aim for, you have no motivation, no dreams and no desire, i would not be standing for this
respected role of Head Boy if i did not have these three things.
you'll win it hands down!!!

I talk about how experiences from the past have made you a better person today, and give examples. Also talk
a little bit about what impression you would leave on the school if head boy.

Body:
I start with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers
-Ralph Nader
Jack Hayward High School, contrary to popular belief. I see not before me the underprivileged, the deprived,
the lower class of society. I see before me the class of 2009, 2010, 2011 and beyond. I see before me leaders.
Anthony J. D'Angelo once quoted 'that you do not have to hold a position to be a leader. '
Thus I am inclined to ask, what is a leader. Leadership consists not in degrees of technique but in traits of
character; it requires moral rather than athletic or intellectual effort, and it imposes on both leader and
follower alike the burdens of self-restraint. It is said that anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm, but
in the face of adversity, true leaders are born.
I stand before you not seeking to defame my fellow candidates, but to challenge you to choose a leader that
can take you from where you are, to where you have never been.
The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves. With this I must ask, how can I
allow myself to become influenced by the ideals of my peers? If I want to lead the orchestra I must turn my
back on the crowd. Always looking forward and never behind, taking with me the dreams and aspirations of
those that support a vision that will ultimately be for the betterment of the people. I must not tip the scale of
justice because of influential standing, but weighs the scale because of an inner desire to do what is morally
correct.
Jack Hayward High School as your future leader I am not only obligated but find it indigenous upon me to be
the voice, as one, crying in the wilderness. The eyes seeing past doubt and indecision, focusing only on hope
and possibilities. The ears that rejects the hum of negativity, yet promotes a positive mindset.
Class of 2009 and beyond we know not what tomorrow brings, but be ever certain that tomorrow begins with
us. The only way to correct the past is by not repeating it in the future. As your leader I challenge you not to
become a statistic but rather an exception to the rule. I challenge you not to fit into anyone's box but rather to
think outside the box. As your leader I vow progression not digression. As your leader I vow to seek avenues
to implement and sustain a better learning system not only for the class of 2009 but also for those that will be
threading behind. As you leader I vow to dedicate my time, my intellect and my manpower to any cause that
will empower us all to become leaders. We must take a stand for what is right. We must not waiver or falter in
our beliefs. We must pave the road of destiny, that those who follow may have a shinning example of the
endless possibilities that await them. On reflection I think Mahatma Ghandi said it best and I quote we must
become the change we want to see. Jack Hayward High School, Class of 2009 and beyond We Are All LEADERS.

Well, I know I AM, and I will not only offer a solution to just these problems, but will also offer a solution to all YOUR
problems, as I, *****, am a candidate for CHANGE..

First, you are not going for the job of anyone of any great importance and therefore a "candidate for change" just
sounds like you think you are better than everyone. Talk to people on their level, people respond much better if you are
just open, honest and cut through the bull. Unless you are at a posh school, in which case feel free to pile all the bull
on...they love it.
I would probably cut down on the questions, you aren't selling me something. Eventhough questions are a great
technique for persuasion you probably want to only use one or two.

try to find a common enemy, look as any political administration in turmoil and all they do is point the finger elsewhere.
Why? It works that's why.

Decide if you are going to be formal or informal, personally I would go informal.

You have to appeal more to the nature of the people- maybe use some reverse psychology. Think about
whatyou personally would want to see as the qualities of a head boy if you were on the outside looking in: is it trivial
changes, or being the best representative and coming down to the level of your peers, guiding them in the best manner
you know how. Which isn't necessarily just based on the things you have listed. Keep it simple, and not overly detailedlet them know the best of you is yet to come...It's tough, but if you need help, I'll do my best

Begin writing your speech by acknowledging and thanking your audience. Acknowledging
your audience means stating who are you are addressing directly. If you're running for a
school election, a formal address can be as simple as "my fellow students." Thank your
audience for their willingness to listen to what you have to say.

Tell a little bit about yourself and why you are running for office. Mention any previous
experience you've had related to the responsibilities of the office. State two to three reasons
why you want to be elected.

Share your perspective about what's unique about your class and your school. Be specific
and cite examples. Start off with the positive points and talk about subjects that tends to
generate enthusiasm and excitement.

Describe two to three main problems, situations or areas of improvement for your class or
school. These issues may be complaints you've heard from students in the past about things
that need to be changed. These should also be problems that you can realistically address
when elected.

Describe how you intend to address the problems you just outlined. Be specific about
solutions you will pursue and how you will motivate students to support solving the problems.
Describe what student life will be like once these situations are addressed. Be descriptive so
that you paint a vivid picture of positive outcomes.

Conclude your speech with the reason why you're the best candidate for the office.
Restate your vision with passion, enthusiasm and optimism. End your speech urging your
classmates to vote for you and thanking them for their support.

Now, there are many reasons why I wish to become Head Boy, but due to time limitations I shall only name a few. Firstly, I want to give
something back to our school. Bishop Perowne has provided me with many opportunities, so now I want to provide new creative
activities for you. This links into my second reason. Giving you a voice. I believe it is very important for you to have a say in how the
school is run: so it can be tailored to each and every one of you. With your help, and my excellent communication skills, I hope to make
year eleven perfect for all of us!

over the past four years Ive got to know a lot of you, and made some very good friends. Ive had some great times playing sport and
doing shows for the school. And, over this period Ive seen us grow, and hopefully, become a bit more mature.
If I was chosen as Head Boy, I would want to represent you, as well as inspire you. Im friendly and approachable, so if anything is
troubling you about school life, or if you have a really good idea, you wont need to keep it to yourself. I want the students voice, thats
your voice,

you dont need to think twice about asking me a question or suggesting an idea. If I were to be Head Boy I would lead by example. I also
consider myself to be very confident.

Hello. I have been at this school for the same period of time as you, nearly 4 full academic years now, and I have seen Leadership
teams old and new, go by as I have been learning through this school. It has seemed a job to admire, as whoever gets into the
Leadership team gets a proper say in how things are run. I have seen problems occur in school, and I have seen problems disappear
thanks to the Leadership team. This is the reason I want to be Head Boy.

But, theres one more thing: I want to get the best out of all of you. I have seen happiness and sadness over my 4 years, and I want to
change the negatives into positives. I want to leave the school in a years time, knowing that I have done something to change this
school for the better. If I can do that, then I will be happy. Thank you for listening, and please vote me for Head Boy.
