CLIENT BACKGROUND
The client is a market-leading, global information Service Company focused on professionals in the legal,
business, tax, accounting, finance, audit, risk, compliance, and healthcare markets. It enables legal, tax, finance
and healthcare professionals to be more efficient and effective by providing information, software and services
that delivers vital insights, intelligent tools and the guidance of subject matter experts.
The client has annual revenues 2013 of 3.6 billion, employs approximately 18,000 people worldwide and
maintains operations across Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and Latin America.

BUSINESS CHALLENGES
With over 3000+ test cases, the quality assurance process for the Clients application was challenging to
maintain. The application was constantly growing (more features were added) and we had to find a way to
reduce testing times. There was a need to increase the amount of test cases & test coverage and to improve
the overall system quality without introducing additional testing time. Based on this experience, the T/DG
Quality Assurance team proposed to automate the testing process in areas where it is possible. Though there
were several automation tools available none of them could provide a complete solution that suits the
requirements. Even the licensed ones proved to be expensive and had limited solutions.
These are the problems that have were observed
The experts at The Digital Group had to exhibit their skills of CodedUI with a very short learning curve.
The Team had to control the time to create and maintain the scripts

SOLUTIONS
Along with the client, Digital decided that the best option would be to follow the approach where we have
multiple tools combined with a custom framework. That enables us to form Base-lined effort estimate for
automating simple/medium/complex test cases. Eventually all the high priority cases were picked up in
collaboration with SMEs (400 test cases were prioritized). As a part of next phase - all test cases were picked
up based on priority for the automation suite.
