*A note about class texts:

While the school is able to provide students with copies of the indicated texts, it is highly encouraged to
purchase your own copies. This way you will be able to annotate, highlight, dog-ear, and think all over the text,
which leads to more critical thinking and a more thorough understanding. Amazon.com is a great place to
purchase discounted paperbacks.
*indicates text we recommend purchasing.

Summative assessments, or major assignments such as essays or projects, are accepted at a
10% deduction per school day (not per class meeting day). Deductions will not go below 60%.
All work for the unit of study must be turned in within the 6-week progress period. Clarify all cutoff dates with your teacher.

Please turn in any work missed during an absence as soon as you return to school. Even if you
dont go to English class the day you return, it is the responsible and respectful choice to see your
teacher on the day you come back to hand in any missing work.
Class Expectations:
Be respectful, to yourself, your classmates, and your teacher.
Be present, both physically and mentally. In order to learn, you have to engage with the

Be responsible. Know due dates and expectations, and check with your teacher when you are
unsure.
Be prepared. Have the materials you need, including books, annotations, and
writing/discussion materials.

can be doing individually to improve.

All major written assignments should be submitted through turnitin.com.
Welcome!
Now that all the important stuff is done....welcome to PreIB English 10! I hope that this class not only instills
important academic skills, but also a genuine interest, hopefully even a passion, for reading, writing, and
discussion. Literacy is one of the most vital skills you will gain from your education, and I hope that you
become more critical and engaged in the way you read the written word and the world around you. Make the
most of your time here - share positivity, engage in our material, and always try to put your best self forward. I
look forward to seeing all of you succeed!
