Definition of Robot

1) A robot is automatic, reprogrammable, multifunctional machine which is product of

engineering innovation inspired by nature or biological world which may have some
degree of freedom for performing some desired complex task.
2) A re-programmable device designed to both manipulate and transport parts, tools or
specialised manufacturing implements through variable programmed motions for the
performance of specific manufacturing tasks BARA
3) A robot is a machine designed to execute one or more tasks automatically with speed
and precision.
4) A real or imaginary machine that is controlled by a computer and is often
made to look like a human or animal.
5) A reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator designed to move material, parts,
tools, or specialized devices through various programmed motions for the
performance of a variety of tasks Robot Institute of America
6) A robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent usually an electromechanical
machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuit.
7) A machine that resembles a human and does mechanical, routine tasks on command.
8) A machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically,
especially one programmable by a computer.
9) A robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent, usually an electromechanical
machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry, and thus a type
of an embedded system.
10) A robot is a machine designed to execute one or more tasks automatically with speed
and precision.
11) A real or imaginary machine that is controlled by a computer and is often made to
look like a human or animal
12) The definition of a robot is a machine that can do specific tasks, and sometimes is
given human characteristics, or a person who automatically does work without
question or emotion.
13) A robot can be defined as a programmable, self-controlled device consisting of
electronic, electrical, or mechanical units. More generally, it is a machine that
functions in place of a living agent.
14) A robot is a machine that senses, thinks, and acts.
15) Robot derives from the Old Church Slavanic 'rabota', meaning 'servitude', which in
turn comes from 'rabu', meaning 'slave'.
16) A robot can be defined as a programmable, self-controlled device consisting of
electronic, electrical, or mechanical units. More generally, it is a machine that
functions in place of a living agent.
Almost all the above definitions consider robots to be machine intimating the animal
or human movements.

I would like to add further to this A machine is said to be a robot when it has five
major components as follows:

1. Chassis
2. Power Supply
3. Way of movement
4. A way of sensing the surroundings
5. A brain (that can be either a microcontroller or a computer).
