The Rest for Every Believer

Author: Creflo Dollar

Summary
The Bible promises that if we are hungry and thirsty for God, we will be filled,
and when we truly seek Him, He will reveal Himself to us. God wants to take us
to a higher level in our Christian walk, and give us the rest in Him that we so
desperately need. When we dare to believe and trust in His Word, we enter into
that rest, which He has made available to us. Accepting the gift of the Holy
Spirit and letting Him help us pray in tongues is a manifestation of the
refreshing He has for our soul.

Speaking in tongues is one sign of Gods promises to all Believers.

After Jesus had risen, He appeared to the eleven disciples, rebuking them for
their hard-heartedness in doubting the reports of His resurrection. He ordered
them to preach the Gospel, and told them the signs that would accompany
those who believe (Mark 16:14-20, AMP).
The contemporary meaning for us is that is it okay to believe in God, witness to
others, and speak of our faith.
The signs that follow our preaching, including praying in the Holy Spirit, are one
way to confirm that we are true Believers.
If we yield ourselves to God, He will work alongside of us when we minister to
others.
Everyone spoke in tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4).
This manifestation was something Jesus had promised. We have the same gift
available to us.
When we speak in tongues and pray in the Holy Spirit, our spirit prays
independently of our intellectual understanding (1 Corinthians 14:14, AMP).
We do not use our own mind, but we are united with the mind of God and His
Spirit.
Praying in tongues is done out of trust in God, because in the natural realm, we
do not know what we are saying.

When we speak in tongues, the Spirit is under our control and may be silenced
as necessary (1 Corinthians 14:32, AMP).
The Holy Spirit will not let us get totally out of control. He is never out of order.
He will also never force us to speak in tongues. He lets us decide for ourselves
whether or not we want to do it.
Speaking in tongues rests and refreshes us.
The people were filled with the Holy Spirit, and spoke in foreign languages (Acts
2:4,AMP).
The Spirit helped them to pray, but each individual allowed Him to work in
them. They chose to yield to Him.
If a child asks his father for bread, will the father give him a stone? If he asks
for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If he asks for an egg, will he give him a
scorpion? Like our earthly fathers, our heavenly Father knows how to give good
gifts (Luke 11:11-13).
God will give us the gift of the Spirit if we ask Him. We receive Him by faith.
Precept must be upon precept. The Lord will teach the people through the lips
of others who speak in tongues. This is the true rest (Isaiah 28:10-12, AMP).
This true rest is the gift of tongues given during the first Pentecost described
in the book of Acts, when the Holy Spirit descended on the Believers.
Jesus tells us to come to Him if we are tired and burdened from works and selfeffort, and He will give us rest. When we get to know Him, we find rest for our
soul (Matthew 11:28-30, AMP).
Even when our mind does not understand, praying in the Holy Spirit gives us
rest and refreshment.
His yoke is light, and when we take it upon us, it is not the same heavy yoke as
the one in the Old Testament. The old yoke represented bondage and hard
work. Jesus yoke represents release and rest.
