Postulate1:gasesaremadeupofverytinyparticles,calledmolecules.Therearebigemptyspacesbetweenthe
moleculesofgases.Thesizesofthemoleculesareverysmallcomparedtothedistancebetweenthem,thusmaking
themcompressible.Thisalsoexplainswhygaseshavelowdensity.

Postulate2:gaseousmoleculesareinconstantrandommotion.Theseparticlesaremovinginstraightlinesat

Postulate3:Theintermolecularforcesofattractionbetweengaseousparticles(moleculesoratoms)areveryweak.
ThisattractiveforcebetweenmoleculeswasdiscoveredbyJohannesDiderikvanderWaalsandiscalledtheVan

Postulate4:Thecollisionofgasparticleswitheachotherorwiththewallsofitscontainerisperfectlyelastic.
Thus,noenergyislostuponcollision.Thismeansthatthegasparticlescontinuetomoveeveniftheycollidewith

Postulate5:Theaveragekineticenergyofthegasparticlesisdirectlyproportionaltotheabsolutetemperature.As
temperatureincreases,theaveragekineticenergyofthegasparticlesalsoincreasesandviceversa.
