PRESENTACIN

PRESENTATION

Mi Visin. Mis Derechos es una iniciativa de World Vision en Repblica Dominicana,

que toma la fotografa como un medio de expresin y reflexin de la realidad, para
promover los derechos de las nias y los nios.

My Vision. My Rights is an initiative of World Vision in Dominican Republic, taking

photography as a means of expression and reflection of reality, to promote the
rights of girls and boys.

El proyecto tiene un componente educativo, que implica que nios y nias de

zonas empobrecidas del pas sean capacitados por profesionales de la fotografa y
reflexionen sobre sus derechos, con el acompaamiento de personal de World Vision.
Este ao han participado 35 nios y nias de las provincias Barahona, Bahoruco,
Independencia, Dajabn, El Seibo y Santo Domingo, que recibieron entrenamientos
durante el verano con ocho reconocidos fotgrafos.

The project has an educational component, which means that children in

impoverished areas of the country are trained by professional photographers and
reflect on their rights, with the support of World Vision staff. This year, 35 children
participated in the provinces Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia, Dajabn, El Seibo
and Santo Domingo, and they received training during the summer with eight
renowned photographers.

Mi Visin. Mis Derechos tambin incluye una exposicin colectiva de los nios
y las nias, acompaada de una memoria grfica, que este ao forman parte del
festival fotogrfico Photoimagen 2014. Esta exposicin pblica busca enfatizar ante
la sociedad que los nios y las nias son sujetos de derechos hoy y que stos deben
ser reconocidos, respetados y garantizados.

The project also includes a group exhibition of the children, accompanied by a

graphic memory, which this year is part of the photographic festival Photoimagen
2014. This public exhibition seeks to emphasize to society that children have rights
today and that they must be recognized, respected and guaranteed.

World Vision cumple 25 aos en el pas y justo este ao la Convencin Internacional

de los Derechos del Nio cumple la misma edad. Consideramos oportuno el
momento para que veamos la realidad a travs de la mirada de los nios y las nias
y renovemos el compromiso con una niez protegida, para una sociedad ms justa
y segura.

World Vision celebrates 25 years in the country and just this year the International
Convention on the Rights of the Child reaches the same age. We consider it is a
timely occasion for us to see reality through the eyes of children and renew the
commitment to a protected childhood for a fairer and safer society.

Erika Santelices
Erika Santelices es una fotgrafa chilena, con ms de 17 aos de carrera continua en
diversos medios de comunicacin, tanto de Chile como en Repblica Dominicana.
Desde el ao 2008 trabaja como corresponsal en la AFP (Agencia France Press).
Ha impartido clases en la Universidad Diego Portales, en Santiago de Chile, y en
la Fundacin Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), Adems de diversos
talleres que han sido dirigidos a fotgrafos de medios de comunicacin dominicanos
y otros abiertos a participantes de Latinoamrica, donde han estado fotgrafos de
diversos pases como Per, Argentina, Chile,Venezuela, Puerto Rico y Mxico.
Erika Santelices is a Chilean photographer, with over 17 years of continuous career
in various media, both in Chile and in the Dominican Republic. Since 2008, she
works as a correspondent for the AFP (Agence France Press). She has taught at
Diego Portales University in Santiago, Chile, and at the Global Democracy and
Development Foundation (FUNGLODE), plus various workshops that have been
aimed at Dominican media photographers and other trainings open to participants
from Latin America, with photographers from various countries like Peru, Argentina,
Chile,Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Orlando Barra
Trabaja como corresponsal para EFE (Agencia Espaola de Noticias), con base en
Repblica Dominicana, aunque tambin ha realizado coberturas de eventos en
otros pases, entre ellos: Brasil, Per, Jamaica, Trinidad y Tobago, Saint Kitts y Nevis,
Bahamas, Puerto Rico y Cuba. Ha ganado varios reconocimientos: Primer lugar en
el Premio Nacional de Fotografa de Prensa (Chile-2003), el premio especial del XII
Premio de Fotografa Humanitaria Luis Valtuea, Mdicos del Mundo (Espaa-2008)
y en el ao 2011 result ganador de la categora fotografa en la XXVI Bienal de
Artes Visuales de Santo Domingo (Repblica Dominicana). Sus fotografas han sido
publicadas en importantes medios internacionales, entre ellos: The New York Times,
Time Magazine, Stern Magazine, Der Spiegel, New York Post, Photo Maganize, Le
Monde, Miami Herald, The Guardian y El Pas.
He is a correspondent for EFE (Spanish News Agency) based in the Dominican
Republic, but he has also covered events in other countries, including Brazil, Peru,
Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Cuba.
Orlando has won several awards: First place in the National Photography Prize Press
(Chile, 2003), the special prize of the XII Award for Humanitarian Photography Luis

Ricardo Piantini Hazoury

Ricardo Rojas

Abogado dominicano, fotgrafo y productor audiovisual, galardonado en la XXIV

Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales de Santo Domingo en el ao 2007. Su trabajo
ha sido acogido internacionalmente en campaas promocionales de organismos
como el Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (UNICEF), Plan Internacional,
Save the Children, entre otros. Su obra ha sido expuesta en Repblica Dominicana,
Mxico, Nueva York y Abu Dhabi. El trabajo profesional de Ricardo se centra en la
fotografa publicitaria, corporativa, de interiores y editorial, pero su obra personal se
basa en temticas sociales.

De origen chileno, radicado en Repblica Dominicana desde el ao 2000. Ha

sido editor fotogrfico del peridico Diario libre y las secciones Rostros, Vivir y
Alegra del peridico Hoy. Sus trabajos han sido publicados en varios medios y
organizaciones como la Revista Mercado, Estilos, el Banco BHD, la Agencia Cinco
(Chile) y la Fundacin Fe y Alegra.

Dominican lawyer, photographer and film producer, awarded in the XXIV Biennial of
Visual Arts in Santo Domingo in 2007 His work has been embraced internationally
in promotional campaigns for agencies such as the United Nations Fund for
Children (UNICEF), Plan International and Save the Children, among others. His
work has been exhibited in Dominican Republic, Mexico, New York and Abu Dhabi.
Ricardos professional work focuses on advertising, corporate, editorial and interior
photography, but his personal work is based on social issues.

Es el actual corresponsal fotogrfico de la prestigiosa agencia Reuters. Sus obras han

sido expuestas en varias colectivas, y ha recibido reconocimientos como mencin
especial en la novena versin del concurso Periodstico sobre Temas de Niez y
Adolescencia.
Chilean-born, based in Dominican Republic since 2000. He has been photo editor at
Diario Libre, as well as for the sections Faces, Joy and Living for Periodico Hoy. His
works have been published in various media and organizations such as the Market
Magazine, Styles, Banco BHD, Agencia Cinco (Chile) and Fe y Alegra Foundation.
He is currently a correspondent for the prestigious photographic agency Reuters.
His works have been exhibited in several groups and was recognized with a special
mention at the ninth version of Journalism Contest on Childhood and Adolescents
Issues.

Roberto Guzmn

Tatiana Fernndez

Graduado en artes en la Universidad Autnoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) y actual

corresponsal grfico en Repblica Dominicana para agencia de noticias Xinhua, desde
2011. Ha trabajado en grandes coberturas para medios locales e internacionales
como cumbres de presidentes y el terremoto de Hait, huracanes y naufragios.
La mayora de sus obras son una denuncia a la violencia de gnero, explotacin
infantil, familias empobrecidas y el drama que viven los nios que trabajan en los
vertederos de basura. Pero en el momento que le toca captar situaciones duras,
como profesional, persigue una imagen esttica, aunque apegada al discurso del
periodismo.

Es dominicana, graduada en Comunicacin Publicitaria en Universidad Iberoamrica

(Unibe). Se especializ en Fotografa de moda en Miln y de productos en la
John Kaverdash School. Recibi la beca Fulbright para realizar la Maestra en
Periodismo (mencin Foto) en la Universidad de Missouri. Cuando descubri la
fotografa documental decidi profundizar sus conocimientos a travs de talleres de
fotoperiodismo impartidos por fotgrafos de Reuters, AP, y Getty Reportage y del
conocido Missouri Photo Workshop.

Roberto is a graduate in Arts at the Universidad Autnoma de Santo Domingo

(UASD) and current correspondent in the Dominican Republic for Xinhua News
Agency, since 2011. He has worked in large coverage for local and international
media as presidential summits and the Haiti earthquake, hurricanes and shipwrecks.
Most of his works are denounces of gender violence, child exploitation, impoverished
families and the drama that children who work in garbage dumps live. But whenever
he has to capture tough situations, as a professional, he pursues an aesthetic image,
although attached to the discourse of journalism.

A travs de sus obras documenta historias y el da a da de la gente comn. Junto a

su socia, la productora Sarah Prez, recibi el premio de FONPROCINE 2013, y en
la actualidad trabaja en su primer largometraje documental como directora.
She is Dominican, graduate in Advertising Communication at UNIBE. Tatiana
specialized in Fashion Photography and Products in Milan at the John Kaverdash
School. She received a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a Masters in Journalism
(Photography) at the University of Missouri. When she discovered documentary
photography, she decided to deepen her knowledge through workshops taught by
photojournalists from Reuters, AP, Getty Reportage and the well-known Missouri
Photo Workshop.
Through her work, she documents stories and ordinary people day-to-day. Along
with her partner, producer Sarah Perez, she received the reward FONPROCINE
2013, and is currently working on her first documentary feature film as director.

Fotgrafo guatemalteco con estudios en Ciencias de la Comunicacin y amplia

experiencia en el campo visual y multimedia. Ha trabajado para varios medios de
comunicacin en Guatemala y Repblica Dominicana. Es editor multimedia en la
empresa Omnimedia / Diario Libre, en la Repblica Dominicana.

Posee una amplia trayectoria en algunos de los principales peridicos del pas
como El Nacional, la revista Vi de El Siglo y diario El Caribe. Fue colaborador de
Agencia Francesa de Prensa (AFP) y actualmente trabaja para la revista Estilos de
Diario Libre. Merecedor de varios premios, entre ellos el Premio de Fotografa de
la XXV Bienal de Artes Visuales, dedicado al maestro Ramn Oviedo; primer lugar
en la categora Blanco y Negro del concurso Fundacin Global Premio Abelardo
Rodrguez Urdaneta; y el Premio fotografa Medio Ambiente de Alianza ONG-Casa
de Teatro, entre otros.

Su trabajo se ha presentado en cuatro individuales y una colectiva. Ganador de

varios premios fotogrficos dentro y fuera de Repblica Dominicana, incluyendo
una mencin especial en el premio al periodismo de turismo Epifanio Lantigua en el
2013 por sus trabajos para Dominican Treasures. Finalista Arroba de Oro USA 2006
y ganador de una Arroba de oro en el 2005 de las pginas www.dominicana360.com
y www.guate360.com respectivamente, de las que es socio y fundador.
Guatemalan photographer with studies in communication sciences and extensive
experience in the visual and media field. He has worked for various media in
Guatemala and Dominican Republic. He is the multimedia editor at the company
Omnimedia/Diario Libre, in the Dominican Republic.
His work has appeared in four individual and collective expositions. Winner of
several photographic awards in and out of the Dominican Republic, including a
special mention award in the tourism journalism prize Epifanio Lantigua in 2013 for
his work in Dominican Treasures, finalist in Arroba de Oro USA 2006 and winner of
an Arroba de Oro in 2005 for webpages www.dominicana360.com y www.guate360.
com respectively, of which he is a partner and co-founder.

Sus obras han sido expuestas en el Centro Cultural Espaol, la XXIII Bienal Nacional
de Artes Visuales (Repblica Dominicana), Casa de Teatro, Funglode, Universidad
Autnoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) y el barrio Capotillo.
He has extensive experience in some of the countrys leading newspapers like El
Nacional, Vi magazine, El Siglo and El Caribe. He collaborated with French Press
Agency (AFP) and currently works for Estilos, a Diario Libre magazine. Winner of
several prizes, including the Prize of Photography in the XXV Bienal de Artes visuales,

Es el menor de seis hermanos, pero asegura que no es el consentido de la casa.
Cursa el sptimo grado y quiere ser ingeniero porque desde pequeo le gusta
trabajar mucho. Cuando sale de la escuela le gusta jugar con sus amigos.
Le encanta tomar fotos de las personas y reflejar las cosas que hacen en la calle y
dentro de la casa. Para Kerllin, tomar fotos es una de las cosas que ms le gusta hacer
en su tiempo libre.

is the seventh grade and wants to be an engineer because since he was little, he likes
to work hard. He likes to play with his friends after school.

Cursa octavo grado y es la menor de cuatro hermanos. Se considera una nia
tranquila y social. Le gusta pasear, conocer nuevos lugares y hacer amigos.
Para Merillin, saber que los nios y las nias tienen los mismos derechos fue muy
importante. Tambin se identific mucho con el derecho de la privacidad. Si no
conocemos nuestros derechos, no podemos exigirlos, resalt.

She attends eighth grade and is the youngest of four children. She sees herself as a
quiet and social girl. She likes to walk, to see new places and make new friends.
To Merillin, knowing that boys and girls have equal rights was very important. She
felt also identified with the right to privacy. If we do not know our rights, we cannot

John es un nio muy extrovertido y dinmico. Vive con su padre y madre, abuelos,

Le gusta tomar fotos a las montaas y a las personas trabajando. Tambin es amante
a los deportes. Cuando no est ayudando a su madre con los clientes del colmado
de la familia, sale a jugar basquetbol y bisbol. Aunque admite que le gusta ms
la pelota, Siento ms emocin. Adems, soy muy bueno en tercera base y como
qucher.

Daynelis es una nia alegre e inteligente.Vive con

su madre y una hermana mayor en la comunidad
de Villa Guerrero, donde asiste a su nueva
escuela. A penas inicia el sexto grado, pero ya
asegura que quiere estudiar Contabilidad en la
universidad.

Daynelis is a lively and intelligent girl. She

lives with her mother and older sister in the
community of Villa Guerrero, where she attends
her new school. She is barely starting sixth grade,
but she says he wants to study accounting in
college.

Durante las prcticas de fotografa tom muchas

fotos a las flores y paisajes de la comunidad

hermanos. Vive en la comunidad de
Miches y le encanta la playa. Es un chico
muy respetuoso y alegre. Cuando sea
mayor quiere ser ebanista como su
padre, y poder hacer camas, muebles y
sillas, como l lo hace ahora. De vez en
cuando le ayuda en los trabajos, as que
se siente un experto en la materia.

Ramon is the youngest of five brothers.

He lives in the community of Miches and
loves the beach. He is a very friendly and
cheerful guy.When he grows up, he wants
to be a carpenter like his father, and be
able to build beds, furniture and chairs,
as his father does now. Occasionally, he
helps his dad at work, so he feels like an
expert on the subject.

horizonte para que las imgenes de la
playa y el cielo queden ms bonitas.

Cuando termine la escuela quiere ser doctora para ayudar a que los dems estn
saludables. Asegura que sin salud, las personas no pueden ser felices.

She lives with her parents and four siblings. Raiza loves to portray landscapes because
she loves how trees and flowers look through photography. They look fully alive,
although it is just an image.
When she finishes school, she wants to be a doctor to help others be healthy. She
says that without health, people cannot be happy.

Es un chico extrovertido que siempre hace rer a
los dems. El taller no solo fue diversin para l,
siempre estuvo atento y responda a las preguntas
de sus maestros Tatiana Fernndez y Ricardo Piantini,
quienes le llamaron ritmito porque se apasion por
las fotografas con ritmo. Me encantan esas imgenes
porque se ven muy chulas, dice con una gran sonrisa.

Asegura que aprendi muy bien el uso los planos y

que los aplica en cada una de sus fotos. Sobre todo,
en los paisajes y retratos a animales. Desde que tiene
su cmara se dedica a tomar fotografas en su tiempo
libre. Tambin le gusta jugar basquetbol y bisbol con
sus amigos.

He is an outgoing boy who always makes people laugh.
The workshop was not only fun for him, he was always
attentive and responded to questions from teachers
Tatiana Hernandez and Ricardo Piantini who nicknamed
him ritmito (little rhythm) because he was fascinated
by the pictures with rhythm. I love these images
because they look really cool, he says with a big smile.

Juan stresses that he learned well use shots and that he

applies that in each of his photos, especially in landscapes
and portraits to animals. Since he got his camera, he is
devoted to shooting in his spare time. He also enjoys
playing basketball and baseball with his friends.

Luz es una nia que vive con su mam, su abuela y su hermana menor. Dice que desde pequea su madre
le ha enseado a ser responsable con los compromisos de la casa. Por eso, antes de salir a jugar se asegura
de cumplir con las tareas domsticas.

Nobody has the right to mistreat us, said this friendly and talkative guy. Ronald lives with his
grandmother, uncle and 2 sisters. Im the middle one in my house. Ronald liked the topic of
the different shots in photography.
