Bhim Singh (SM99) was born in Rahamapur, India, in 1956. He received the
B.E. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Roorkee, Roorkee,
India, in 1977, and the M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering
from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, New Delhi, India, in 1979
and 1983, respectively.
In 1983, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of
Roorkee, as a Lecturer, and in 1988 became a Reader. Since December 1990,
he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, where
he was an Assistant Professor, became an Associate Professor in 1994, and a Professor in
1997. His current research interests include power electronics, electrical machines and
drives, active filters, flexible ac transmission systems, high-voltage dc, and power quality. Dr.
Singh is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering; the National Academy of
Science, India; the Institution of Engineers (India); and the Institution of Electronics and
Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). He is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical
Education (ISTE), the System Society of India, and the National Institution of Quality and
Reliability.
He was the General Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives
and Energy Systems (PEDES 2006) held in New Delhi. He was the recipient of the Khosla
Research Prize of the University of Roorkee in 1991, the J. C. Bose and Bimal K. Bose Awards
of the IETE for his contributions to the field of power electronics in 2000, the Maharashtra
State National Award of the ISTE in recognition of his outstanding research work in the area
of power quality in 2006, and the PES Delhi Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award for 2006.

Shigeo Morimoto (M93) was born in Japan in 1959. He received the B.E.,
M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Osaka Prefecture University, Sakai, Japan, in
1982, 1984, and 1990, respectively.
He joined Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, in 1984. Since 1988,
he has been with the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Prefecture
University, where he is currently a Professor.
His main areas of research interest are permanent magnet synchronous
machines, reluctance machines, and their control systems.
Dr. Morimoto is a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, the Society of
Instrument and Control Engineers of Japan, the Institute of Systems, Control and Information
Engineers, and the Japan Institute of Power Electronics.

David G. Dorrell (M95SM08) was born in St. Helens, U.K. He received the
B.Eng. degree (with honors) in electrical and electronic engineering from the
University of Leeds, Leeds, U.K., in 1988, the M.Sc. degree in power
electronics engineering from the University of Bradford, Bradford, U.K., in
1989, and the Ph.D. degree in engineering from the University of Cambridge,
Cambridge, U.K., in 1993.
He has held lecturing positions at The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen,
U.K., and the University of Reading, Berkshire, U.K. He was a Senior Lecturer
at the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, U.K., for several years. He is currently a Senior
Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, Sydney, Australia. He is also an Adjunct
Associate Professor with National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan. His research
interests cover the design and analysis of various electrical machines and also renewable
energy systems, with over 100 technical publications.
Dr. Dorrell is a Chartered Engineer in the U.K. and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering
and Technology, U.K.

Poul Erik Hansen received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and
the Ph.D. degree in solid state physics from the Technical University of
Denmark, Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1974 and 1977, respectively. Since then,
he has been with Danfoss Compressors GmbH, Flensburg, Germany, where
he is currently the Senior Director of Technology and R&D.

Petru V. Notingher (M93) was born in Romania on February 18, 1946. He


received the Engineering degree and the Ph.D. degree in electrical
engineering from the Politehnica University of Bucharest (PUB), Bucharest,
Romania, in 1969 and 1983, respectively.
He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical Machines and
Materials, PUB, and has been the Director of the Laboratory of
Electrotechnical Materials, PUB, since 1990. From 1995 to 1999, he was the
Director of the Electromechanical Energy Conversion Equipment Research
Center. Since 2007, he has been the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, PUB.
He is a member of CIGRE and an observer in CIGRE D2 SC. He has published more than 200
scientific papers and books in the field of materials for electrical engineering and insulation
systems. His research interests include aging mechanisms of electrical insulation, insulation
systems testing, polymers breakdown, electrical and water treeing, and electrical materials
(dielectrics and composites).
