Criterion for phase B tripping
Criterion for phase C tripping
Criterion for reclosing
Criterion for tripping after reclosing

If phase does not trip or if tripping time is larger

than 5s (OR logic) then the test result will
regarded as Passed.
Above mentioned logic will happen when we
test the relay with back up protection. If we set
a very long fault time the back up protection
may be activated. With this criterion we can
still get the test result marked as Passed

Example 1:

If phase tripping time is smaller than 0.2s the

test result will be regarded as Passed
Example 2:

If phase A tripping time meets the criterion of

smaller than 0.2s and larger than 0.1s at the
same time (AND logic) then the test result will
be regarded as Passed

This time includes three parts
1. time for the first fault
2. time for reclosing
3. time for the second fault
time after reclosing

In the above example we have selected to

check the Zone 1 and Z2 settings
95% of Zone 1 setting28
105% of Zone 1 setting
95% of Zone 2 setting
05% of Zone 2 setting
For each test point A-E, A-B and A-B-C
faults will be simulated.
So totally 12 test points will be added at one
time
In the test list we will see the newly added test
points.

---------------------------------------------Wiring Factor in Tap

Select No if wiring factor has already
been considered in matching factor
Select Yes if wiring factor is not consider

There are two methods available

Dichotomic
Linear

22

PowerTest Protection Modules

CT starpoint
Here we define the direction of CT

For dichotomic mode this resolution setting

will be used to assess the current tripping point.
If the difference between the output value of
the current tripping point and the value of the
last un-tripping point is less than this setting
then the current tripping point will be
determined.

Normally we can determine the direction by

looking at the bias equation in relay instruction
manual
Example:
Equation Id=IA+IB indicates that CT direction
is toward the protective device. Thus we need
to select tow.prot.obj

For linear mode this resolution indicates the

minimum step can be set.

Example:
Equation Id=IA-IB indicates that CT direction
is toward the transmission line. Thus we need
to select tow.line

---------------------------------------------Note: We can set a bigger resolution to

reduce the test time. But this may bring bigger
error in the test result.

----------------------------------------------

Bias. Equ.
Here we select the equation which defines Ir/Id
characteristic. This equation is available from
relay instruction manual.

Set assessment criterion

Available bias equations include

Ir=(|I1-I2|)/K1 or Ir=(|I1+I2|)/K1
Ir=(|I1|+|I2|*K2)/K1
Ir=max(|I1|,|I2|)
Ir=(|Id-|I1|-|I2||)/K1
Ir=|I2|

Click Assessment to enter into criterion

setting page

K1, K2
They are bias quantities in the bias equation
and can be found in relay instruction manual

Configure binary inputs

Test Phase
Here we can define to test only one phase or
to test three phases at the same time.
A, B, C: only one phase will be tested
ABC:
6 currents will be injected into the
relay under test. And the tripping time
for all three phase will be got

Resolution
This setting is related to Search Mode

DC Time Relay
Ref. State
Here we define the binary input trigger
condition for the current test state.

This module is used to test DC type time relay.

Set group parameters

No 1:

we compare the current binary input

status with the one of the first test
state. The trigger will happen if they
have different status.

priev:

we compare the current binary input

status with the one of the last test
state. The trigger will happen if they
have different status.

Set test parameters

Click
button to enter into group
parameter page. Group test parameter page
along with default settings is shown bellow

The setting of test parameters are similar to

State Sequence(4V,3I). Please refer to it.

Example: tripping time record with selection of

TripA, TripB and TripC

In this example we can see the tripping time

difference for phase A, B and C

Configure binary inputs

TripABC
If we select them then test set will sense the
binary inputs for TripA, TripB and TripC
separately and record the latest tripping time
as the tripping time for all three phase tripping
Example: tripping time record with selection of
TripABC

Click
button to enter into binary
input configuration page

To simplify the wiring operation and reduce the

preparation time before the test we have
assigned each binary input here to a dedicated
purpose.

In this example the tripping time is same for

phase A, B and C

63

PowerTest Protection Modules

If phase does not trip or if tripping time is larger

than 5s (OR logic) then the test result will
regarded as Passed.

Set assessment criterion

Click Assessment to enter into criterion
setting page

Above mentioned logic will happen when we

test the relay with back up protection. If we set
a very long fault time the back up protection
may be activated. With this criterion we can
still get the test result marked as Passed

Criterion for phase A tripping

Criterion for phase B tripping
Criterion for phase C tripping
Criterion for reclosing
Criterion for tripping after
reclosing

0.95*Vsvnset
Set the voltage as 0.95 times of voltage-block
setting. So the voltage-block function will be
disabled. And the auto-reclosing process can
be tested.
1.05*Vsvnset
Set the voltage as 1.05 times of voltage-block
setting. So the voltage-block function will be
enabled. And the auto-reclosing process will
not happen.

Example 2:

0.95*Phisvnset
Set the angle as 0.95 times of angle-block
setting. So the angle-block function will be
disabled. And the auto-reclosing process can
be tested.

If phase A tripping time meets the criterion of

smaller than 0.2s and larger than 0.1s at the
same time (AND logic) then the test result will
be regarded as Passed
Example 3:

1.05*Phisvnset
Set the angle as 0.95 times of angle-block
setting. So the angle-block function will be
disabled. And the auto-reclosing process will
not happen.

If phase A does not have tripping then it will be

regarded as Passed
---------------------------------------------Note: The value of 0 (or 0.001) represents
No Tripping
----------------------------------------------

Acc. Trip
Here we check the tripping after reclosing on
fault
