Research design and methodology

Chapter three consists of three parts 1. Purpose of the study and Research Design,
2. Method, and 3. Statistical data analysis
Part one, purpose of the study and research design, relates the purpose of the
study, describes the research design and variables used in research.
Part two, method, describes the respondents, the data gathering materials, and the
research procedures employed.
Part three, statistical data analysis, reports the procedures for scoring and statistical
analysis used.

Research design
This descriptive study determined the perceptions of westbridge students towards
their school. Descriptive research, also known as statistical research, describes data
and characteristics about the population or phenomenon being studied. Descriptive
research answers the questions who, what, where, when and how.
Respondents were classified as to their academic status, year level, sports affiliation
and socio-economic status. The questionnaire was designed and administered to
elicit the perception of westbridge students towards their school.

The respondents
The respondents were the 93 randomly selected students of Westbridge School,
school year 2008 2009. The researcher got 93 respondents through the use of the
slovins formula.
The respondents were classified according to academic status, year level, sports
affiliation and socio-economic status.
As to academic status they were classified according to honor and non-honor. As to
year level, they were classified according to 1 st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year. As to sports
affiliation, they were classified according to varsity and non varsity. As to socioeconomic status, they were classified according to 15000 below,15999 to 29999
and 30000 above
The distribution of respondents is reflected in table 1.

Statistics used was processed by means of a tally sheet so as to record information

written by the respondents
This tally sheet was finalized in a data file form found on the appendix of this thesis
research.
The data file summarizes the response of the respondents.

Statistical tools used

The following statistical tools used to arrive and deliver into the specific questions
and hypothesis, using the SPSS 17.0 program.
Mean the mean of the absolute value of the differences between individual values
and the mean or median, used as a measure of dispersion, to determine the
perception of westbridge students towards their school.
Standard deviation was used to determine the dispersion of the students scores
from the means.
One-way ANOVA was used in collecting the results of the questionnaire and
determine three or more variables.
t-test was used to determine two or more variables like sports affiliation and
academic status.
