Affix Homework How To

Directions: You should do your homework on your OWN

paper. Typing it is perfectly acceptable.
These are the steps.
1. Define the affix/root word.
2. Use a dictionary to find five words that contain it. (The
definitions should related to the definition of the affix/root
word. Just because a word has the same letters DOES
NOT MEAN it uses the affix/root word.)
3. Use each of those five words in a sentence. Underline the
word with the affix/root word.
4. Find or think of an antonym or non-example for each word.
(Sometimes a non-example is all you can do. You have to
logically think of something the word isnt. Telling me, The
internet says theyre aren't antonyms, wont get your
credit.)

Quizzes: You will be quizzed every week or two weeks on your
affix/root words. The quiz will be fill in the blank with common
words you should see when you do the research for your
homework. I will not give you a list of what specific words will
be on the quiz. You have to use your knowledge of the root/
affixes and context clues to figure out the correct answers.
These are the standards that the homework and quizzes are
aimed to address.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.6.4.A
Use context (e.g., the overall meaning of a sentence or
paragraph; a word's position or function in a sentence) as a
clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.6.4.B
Use common, grade-appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and
roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., audience,
auditory, audible).

Here is an example of what your homework should look
