NVRAM Initialization

Performing an NV-RAM initialization erases all data and custom configurations and restores the printer to factory default
settings, but keeps the country and language settings. The following settings and information are erased:
All network settings
All JetDirect settings
Phonebook information
All menu settings including tray configurations
Scan-to-Network Folder settings and configuration (MFP devices only)
Scan-to-Email settings and configuration (MFP devices only)
NOTE: For some HP LaserJet models, you can perform a Save/Restore from the System tab in the Embedded Web Server
to back up print settings in an .xml file. After performing the NVRAM initialization, restore the settings from the same tab.

Perform an NVRAM Initialization

1. Print a configuration page.
CAUTION: Be sure to print a configuration page before performing an NV-RAM initialization. Make note of the IP address
that is listed on the Jetdirect configuration page. After performing an NV-RAM initialization, restore the IP address if
necessary.
2. Turn the printer off.
3. Perform one of the following steps:

Touchscreen control panel models: Press and hold the lower right quadrant of the touchscreen where the Ready
status is normally displayed, and then turn the printer on.

LCD control panel models: Press and hold both the right arrow button and the Cancel button (

), and then turn

the printer on.

4. When the Permanent Storage Init. displays on the control panel, release the button(s).
5. Wait for the initialization to complete and for the printer to return to a Ready state.
6. Restore the original IP address if necessary. For All-in-One printers, go to bpl10510 for instructions to restore the

serial number and page count.

NOTE: If you do not restore the original IP address after performing an NV-RAM initialization, you must
reconfigure any computers that print to the product by uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer software on
the computers so that the computers can recognize the printer.
7. Reconfigure the printer using the settings information from the Configuration page.

Super NVRAM Initialization

A super NVRAM initialization restores the product to the generic product mode in which it arrived from the factory. This
means that you will have to reset the language and country/region settings when the product starts after the
initialization. A super NVRAM initialization erases all data stored in the protected and unprotected NVRAM sections.
Perform a Super NVRAM Initialization

address if necessary.
