USE & CONTROL INSTRUCTIONS:

Charge Instructions:
Add 4.0 fl. oz. of CHEMFOS LIQUID ADDITIVE per 100 gallons tank volume.

Analysis Procedures:
Method 1Fermentation Tube:
Equipment needed
Fermentation Tube
Scoop

Reagents needed:
Sulfamic Acid, 99%

Procedure:
1) Fill the fermentation tube completely with freshly sampled operating solution.
This can be done by filling the tube, tilting it back to fill the long end, the refilling
the bulb portion of the tube. The tube should be completely full to just below the
mouth of the tube. Consistency in the fill level is important from test to test.
False low readings can result if samples are not tested within a short time of
sampling. Do not filter the phosphate bath sample prior to analysis for additive
concentration as this may also result in false low readings.
2) Using a scoop put approximately 2.0 grams of Sulfamic Acid into the tube.
3) Immediately place your thumb over the opening and tilt the tube so that the
reagent travels to the end of the long tube. Do not allow an air bubble to enter
the long portion of the tube.
4) Immediately return the tube to the upright position.
5) Remove your thumb and place the tube on a level surface. This procedure
must be done quickly for reproducibility and accuracy.
6) Record the number of milliliters of gas generated as the additive
concentration.
The preferred operating parameter should be established for each system. The
level should be maintained at 0.4 ml above the point at which a blush rust
condition appears. The parameters established using this rule should be within
1.5-2.8 points using either test procedure. Consult your PPG representative if
outside this range.

Alternative: Method 2Titration:
Equipment needed
Ferrous Iron Test paper
25-ml pipette and bulb
Disposable pipettes
Burette Assembly
250-ml flask or beaker

Reagents needed:
* 50% Sulfuric Acid
* Ferrion Indicator
* 0.042N Potassium Permanganate

Procedure:
1) Perform an iron test by dipping a strip of ferrous iron test paper in a sample of
the phosphate operating solution. If a red color develops, the bath contains
iron and should be treated by adding CHEMFOS LIQUID ADDITIVE in the
quantity used for initial make-up. If the test strip does not turn red, continue
with the following steps.
2) Transfer 25 ml of operating solution into a clean 250-ml flask or beaker.
3) Add 15 drops of 50% Sulfuric Acid to the sample.
4) Add 2 drops of Ferroin Indicator to the sample.
5) Using the burette, titrate with 0.042N Potassium Permanganate until a pink
color persists for 15 seconds.
6) Record the number of ml of 0.042N Potassium Permanganate as the additive
concentration.
See Method 1 for discussion of the preferred operating parameter for additive
concentration.
Replenishment:
CHEMFOS LIQUID ADDITIVE should be metered into the phosphate solution on
a continuous basis to ensure optimum quality. Refer to the specific phosphate
technical data sheet to determine the amount of CHEMFOS LIQUID ADDITIVE
required
PRECAUTIONS:
Consult the most recent Material Safety Data Sheets for health and safety information relative to
the safe handling and storage of this material, and all reagents and indicators used to control this
material.
