Class do you know what a cabbage is?

Indeed, it also has leaves sticked on it that makes
it circular. Isnt it that it looks like this? ( a
circular paper covered with crumpled paper)
We will call this as cabbage paper. This cabbage
paper has many surprises.

C. Lesson Proper
Sewing tools are instruments that aid in
accomplishing sewing task. So sewing tools are
our companion in finishing our sewing task. They
are very helpful in sewing.
One category of sewing tools is the measuring
tools. Kindly read its definition class.
Measuring tools class are those objects used to
measure any object, just like your body
measurements when making clothes should be
measured in order for you to fit that clothing.
This is the tape measure. Read its definition class.
Tape measure is coiled and if you uncoil it, it can
measure any objects.
This is the sewing gauge. Read about it class.

Sewing gauge is used to measure the hemlines or


the bottom edge of a dress or your skirts. Also in
the buttonhole which is the hole in our uniforms.
I think ruler is not new to you class. It is also one
of the marking tools. As used in in our schools, it
is effective for drawing straight lines and also in
connecting lines.
This is the yardstick. Read its definition class.
The yardstick is made of smooth shellacked wood
or metal.
This is the tailor square or L square. Read about it
class.
L square has 2 arms. The longer arm is 24 inches
and the shorter is 14 inches.
This is the French curve, read about it class.
Now let us open another cabinet. These are the
cutting tools. Read its definition class.
This is the bent handled dressmakers shears.

Shears have the length of 7-12 inches.
The next is the cutting scissors. This has 3 kinds,
this is the first kind which is the trimming scissor

Measuring tools are instruments used for


obtaining quantities, dimensions or forces of real
world object.

Tape measure is a flexible measuring device used


in taking body measurements.

Sewing gauge is used in for measurements at hem


lines, button holes and areas where other small
measurements require checking.

Yardstick is used for making the hemlines and


checking grainlines when laying out pattern.

The tailor square is used to transfer measurements


to the draft pattern. It also divides the garment
into the desired measurement.

French curve is used to shape the depth of the


neckhole or the armhole of the pattern.
Cutting tools are used for cutting fabrics.
Bent handled dressmakers shears are made of
quality steel and hold a sharp cutting edge.

Trimming scissor is used for trimmings, clipping


threads and snipping slashes.

So from its name trimming scissor it is used in


trimming such threads.
This is the embroidery scissor. Read about it class.
So embroidery scissor class has 4-5 inches of
finely tampered blades. From its name
embroidery scissor it is used in embroidery work.
This is the buttonhole scissor. Read about it class.
This is the next cutting tool, the seam ripper.

We go to our next cabinet, the marking tools.


Marking tools are required for transferring pattern
markings to garment fabric pieces and for making
alterations on garments.
This is the chalk pencils or the dressmaker pencil.

This is the wax chalk read about it class.
This is available in black or white, this can be
removed by pressing.
This is the tracing wheel. It has two types. Those
with a serrated edge and those with smooth edge.
The serrated edge produces dots in the fabrics and
the smooth edge wheel creates solid line.
This is the dressmakers carbon paper. Read about

The color of carbon paper should be chosen that is


close to the color of the fabric.
Ok lets move on to the next cabinet. The pinning
and sewing tools.
This is the pincushion. Read about it class.
Pincushion also sharpens the needles. This is hand

Thimble guards the needle from hurting us.
D. Application
I. Class I have here a magic box. There is a tools
inside it. All you have to do is to pick tools from
the box and categorize it if it is a cutting tool,
measuring, marking and pinning tool. Paste the

Embroidery scissor is used in fine details in


delicate fabrics and in embroidery work.

Buttonhole scissor is intended for making


buttonholes.
Seam ripper is designed for reaping out stitches
from seams, either as a result of an error or during
alternations.

Chalk or dressmaker pencil is used to make fine


lines on fabric.
Wax chalk is used for woolen fabrics.

Dressmakers carbon paper also called


dressmakers tracing paper is a specially waxed
carbon paper that transfers the tracing wheels
markings to the fabric.

A pincushion holds the straight pins and needles


while working to prevent accidents.
Hand needle is used in making temporary stitches
and buttonholes. Sizes of 7 to 10 are for general
hand sewing.
A small hard pitted cup worn for protection on the
finger that pushes the needle in sewing.
