I would use this as a summative assessment. They would take this test after we have
discussed the underground railroad and we have read books over it. I will have them take the test
and I will grade them depending how well they did in the test.
Part 2: Blog Post
Introduction
Technology has been used to help with learning and giving students aides to help with
their learning. Technology is now being used to help student data and give teachers insight in to
what needs to be done to help them grow. Teachers use technology to take online test of their
students and then look at the data and decide what needs to be done to help raise their scores and
grades. Teachers use formative assessment after the students have been taught the lesson to see if
they understood it or if they need to be retaught. Summative assessment is done at the end of a
chapter or unit and this can be used as a major test grade.
Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student Learning (150-200 words)
Formative assessment is widely discuss in the broader education community as a way to
test students as they learn (Price, 2016).Teachers use this as a way to see what they students are
not understanding when they teach. The students play a game and the teacher watches them and
watches them as they play. The teacher can then grade them on how well they are learning.
Teachers also need to make learning a challenge because challenge is what the students love to
work with. The excitement of a challenge is at the heart of a creative classroom in technology
education (Peterson, Harrison, 2005). The more challenging the assessment is the more the
students will want to work hard and do their best. Teachers must plan assessments the way they

plan their lesson plans (Matuk, Linn, Eylon, 2015). If the teachers dont plan the assessment
correctly then the lesson being taught will have gone to waste and the students will not have
learned what the needed to learn.
Istation (100 words)
Istation is a software that has many lessons in comprehension and in phonics. At the
beginning of each month the students are assessed and after that they are doing lessons based on
their results. The teacher uses the data and can see how well they compare to other students. The
data also lets the teacher see if they are below their grade level or if they are where they need to
be. This software lets teacher print out lesson plans that she can do with her class as whole
especially if a majority of them are not doing well so for instance in reading comprehension. For
example she can print out reading stories and together they can read the stories together and
discuss the stories and then answer the questions as a whole class. This way they are learning and
the teacher can decide who does still not understand and is missing something on the
comprehension part.
Kahoot
Kahoot is a fun way teachers can create quizzes for the students to play on any device.
The teacher can decide on the number of points they get and how long they have to answer each
question. Students can use their cell phone, computer or other devices to play the game (Davis,
2015). The teacher can also create flashcards so this is like a review before the big test. The
teacher can have them review the flashcards before they take the test and this will help them do
very well on their test. Kahoot is a fun and creative way that students can learn and test.
Socrative

Socrative is another quiz based internet program that allows you to make up quizzes in a
class period if you need to. Socrative has games that the kids can play and the great thing about
this is that it already divides them up into teams (Davis, 2015). This will be a great way to have
them play a game after you have taught the lesson and this will give the teacher the opportunity
to see if she needs to reteach or if they are ready to move on. This will be a great way to give a
test grade on this certain lesson and the kids will not even know that they are being tested. This
can be used for example as a review right before a test. The students can play the game and they
will be reviewing at the same time.
Formative and Summative Assessments
Formative assessment is done as students are learning and summative assessment is at the
end like a test (Davis, 2015). Formative assessment can be done while the students are working
and the teacher is grading them on their work. The summative would be at the end of a unit test
to see how well they understood their lesson. The teachers can use a game in the socrative as a
formal assessment and the teacher can use the way they scored as a game. The teacher can use
Istation as a summative grade because she can do that at the end of each month and give them a
grade depending on their lesson and if they improved.
Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment
One of the good things about using technology to facilitate assessment is that the teachers
can create fun quizzes in the form of games or game shows. Technology can be a great
assessment for review and a great competition for others to see who well they know their facts. A
con would be that if the teachers do not understand how to do the quizzes then it will take longer
to create and the quiz can be very confusing. The teacher can take lessons on how to use the
lessons because it will make it so much easier. The students will have creating the lesson online

and the students will have fun taking the test and they would not even know they are being tested
because they are having so much fun playing. If the internet is down then the teacher should also
have a back up plan. There is always times when back up plans are good because they could fail
and that would not be good so plan b is always a good things. Students get tired of taking quizzes
on paper and they get frustrated so if the teacher can create quizzes to have the question s read to
them then it will make the test less stressful and they can have fun as well.
Should a teacher only use technology to assess student learning? Why or why not?
Yes because being able access technology will make learning fun. Students get tired of
doing worksheet after worksheet and listening to the teacher talk all day long. They can listen to
the teacher talk and then do some fun things on the computer to enhance what the teacher just
learned. This will keep the students learning and having fun and also the teacher can see if the
students are learning.
What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?
Any teacher that uses the assessment needs to set it to the ISTE standards. This is like the
rubric for teachers. Teachers will know what they need to teach the students in order to make
them successful. Teachers can plan their lesson plans using the ISTE standards and plan
accordingly and make sure that they are being taught the TEKS they need.
Concluding Paragraph for Software to Support Assessment
Assessment is one thing that every test their kids. Teachers teach the lesson and in
order for them to see if the she can move on are through assessment. Teachers can look at
their data and then decide if they are improving or she needs to work more on a certain
lesson in order to move on. A good teacher will not move on until all of her students have at
least mastered some of the lesson because if they do not then the students will fall further

and further behind. When a student is falling behind they will not be able to catch up and
then they will give up and not try anymore.
