Product Description

Purpose and Area of Application

Avionics maintenance, lab testing, integration
and troubleshooting require compact and flexible test equipment with multi-I/O support like
analog and discrete I/O in combination with
different serial bus communication protocols
like RS-232/422/485, MIL-STD-1553 and also
ARINC 429.
To meet this requirement, TechSAT has developed an IndustryPack (IP) based ARINC 429
module which can be combined with other I/O
types on a single carrier card of different form
factors, e.g. VME, VXI, PCI or PC/104 AT-bus
card.

Features and Functions

The ARINC-429 IP module, A429-IPM provides 2 non-multiplexed transmit channels and
4 receive channels. It uses standard ARINC
429 industry chip sets and features a 20 MHz
microcontroller for on-module processing. The
microcontroller performs all real-time bus-handling tasks such as maintaining refresh rates,
updating dynamic data, filtering and buffering
receive data. The on-module intelligence allows employing the A429-IPM even on passive, non-intelligent low-cost carrier cards.

Hardware and Software Support

The A429-IPM firmware provides more than 50
functions, among others complex functions
for data replay and dynamic data updates
using sine, ramp and list functions. In addition, IP specific functions such as accessing
the IP resources (I/O space, ID space and
memory spare) for all IP module types are
provided.
On request the A429-IPM firmware can be
customized for special application needs.
TechSAT provides Windows, DOS and VxWorks drivers and API to operate the A429IPM on the PCI carrier A429-PCI and the VME
carrier TVME8240. However, A429IPM can be
operated on any passive or intelligent IP carrier, if the user adapts the existing drivers and
API. To this end, TechSAT provides the driver
and API source code for the users own adaptation.

In addition to the A429 channels, A429-IPM-2G

features 3 I/O lines of which 2 are configurable
as timers, interrupts or discrete I/Os. These
can be accessed via the 50-pin I/O signal connector. The third I/O signal is a 1Hz clock signal
that is used to configure the IP module to operation in either master or slave mode.
