Dear sisters and brothers:

A wedding is one of the most beautiful celebrations within the Church, because it
expresses the love between a man and a woman, who fall in love and decide to
join their lives until they die. Human love and friendship are among the deepest
and greatest joys we can know. We seek them eagerly and hold fast to them. A life
without love cannot be called a true human life. Love is the force that gives sense
to human life. Nobody can be happy without love. You, DIANA and ULUS, met for
the first time some years ago and soon you became friends. With the time your
special friendship became love: you fell in love with each other and that deep
relationship of mutual knowledge and love is leading you today to this altar. Where
does your love come from? It comes from God, He is the fountain of love, who
created you out of love. He put his love in your hearts and joined the paths of your
lives. He is calling you to live from now on a wonderful adventure: the adventure of
living together and loving each other as husband and wife; the adventure of
forming a new family in order to witness to the greatness and the power of your
love, the adventure of building a home, where children may be welcome and loved.
You are called also to be parents in order to raise your children in the ways of the
Lord. Thats the vocation that you received from Jesus the Lord and your wedding
today makes solemn what youve already done the decision to love that you have
pledged in many spoken and unspoken ways.
Marriage was not invented by men. It was created by God, when He created man
and woman according to his will of salvation. He inscribed the vocation of love in
the very essence of human beings. Jesus confirmed Gods plan, as he denounced
divorce as opposite to Gods plan. This is why a man leaves his father and mother,
and the two become one flesh. They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh. So
then, what God has united, human beings must not divide.' (Mar 10:7-9).
Jesus Christ made of this vocation of love a sacrament, thats to say, a special sign
of his love for his Church. Along the history God has tried in many ways to tell us
that he loves us. You can sum up the whole Bible as God saying I love
you to the human beings. Both the Old and the New Testament are filled with
stories and scenes that express the love of God for us. In the gospel of John we find
one of the most beautiful expressions of Gods love: For this is how God loved the
world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish
but may have eternal life. (Joh 3:16). And Jesus showed us his love giving himself
up to the death of cross, in order to free us from sin and death, and make us sons
and daughters of God. Jesus taught us that the measure of Gods love is love
without measure. Thats the kind of love that we all receive from God and the kind
of love that you are called to live as husband and wife: the measure of your love
for one another is love without measure. This is very difficult to live: it demands
daily sacrifice, self-denial and renouncement, but Jesus will help you always.
Marriage is actually a way of cross following the footprints of Christ. You have to
die every day to selfishness in order to choose the love of Christ. In that way,

taking up your cross with love you will become a true sign of Christs love for the
world and He will bless your love and your family.
Do not be afraid, because youre not alone. Christ is with you and he is ready to
walk with you, he will protect you and he will never let you down, because he is
faithful. Do not fear. St. John says in his first letter: In love there is no room for
fear, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear implies punishment and no one
who is afraid has come to perfection in love. Let us love, then, because he first
loved us. (1Jo 4:18-19).
If you walk hand in hand with the Lord, His love will be with you, He will increase
steadily your love and he will give the power to overcome all the troubles you may
find and you will be able to proclaim with St. Paul: There is nothing I cannot do in
the One who strengthens me. (Phi 4:13), for nothing is impossible to God.'
(Luk 1:37).
Everything is possible for those who love. In fact, St. Paul said: love is patient,
love is kind. It is not jealous, it is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it
does not seek its own interests, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices
with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all
things. Love never fails (1Cor 13). And Jesus is blessing your love today and every
day.
