THE EFFECTS OF THE EARTHQUAKE OF APRIL 16TH, 2016

My name is Jose Lumbano. I belong to the Faculty of Engineering of the
Engineering Systems. I will present the expected effects of the earthquake
in relation to my career:
During the day the earthquake in Ecuador's Day May 16, in
telecommunications at the level of telephony, internet signal collapsed
causing interruptions difficult communications traffic also phone calls,
navigations to the network, blockages in the SMS; also in computer
systems level it had fallen to perform various transactions that connects to
the network, leaving unanswered by making data operations by the users
across the country.

ensuring telecommunications service. In addition another facilities to
communicate with their families are the free SMS to all operators, Claro
company provided 1000 SMS free of charge to users in Esmeraldas and
Manabi, CNT left open the SMS service free for these two were provided
provinces, Movistar also provided unlimited SMS, and reported that soon
will enable nationwide.
The service fixed internet in the two affected provinces were in normal
operation during the earthquake did not occur collapse in network traffic
data, as it has a submarine cable system for network connections data
form safe.
Technology during the earthquake in Ecuador in use, had prepared
contingency plan in emergency situations, taking two periods:

The reaction period: It was short his term, which immediate action is
to locate, search, whether there was missing, survivors or areas
under rubble.

technology to react to the disaster, be support at the stage of search
for survivors and missing, geo-locate critical points, citizen

My Name is Paola Quezada. I belong to the Faculty of Technical

Education for Development, Agricultural Engineering career. I will present
the expected effects of the earthquake in relation to my career:
In the agricultural situation in the affected areas is very worrying state of
local markets where they usually fresh produce and road infrastructure for
access to them are sold. Although agricultural production is one of the
main livelihoods in the affected areas is expected to crop damage is less
severe. It is assessed losses in agricultural tools and productive
infrastructure at the family level.
Of the total rural population living in the provinces of Esmeraldas and
Manabi amounts to 937,503 people, an estimated 542,000 people are in
areas of high involvement. For the next three months the harvest of 60
thousand tons of banana should pay special attention to prevent loss or
price gouging expected. Marketing strategies help maintain stability in the
areas.
Additionally in the affected areas harvest 250 thousand tons of corn,
27,000 tons of cocoa, 22 thousand tons of rice and 2,3mil tons of coffee in
the remainder of April to June is expected. According to the above is very
important to check the status of the collection centers and infrastructure
for the processing of these products. In the area before the earthquake 1
mill 11 factories rice, 16 collection centers cocoa, 8 of coffee and 23
collection centers grains were counted, without damage in the provinces of
Los Rios and Guayas, which will be updated in the next report. In the most
