OPERATING MANUAL

Do not EVER throw batteries to fire.

At misusages of batteries may release damaging chemical gasses. In

this case;
DO NOT BREATHE THE SMOKE,
LEAVE THAT PLACE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE,
VENTILATE THE PLACE.

Misusage of batteries may cause fire and/or explosion.

Do not try to open battery. Battery cells contain electrolyte liquids,

which may be dangerous for skin and clothes. Do not touch to the
crack battery cells with naked hand.
Do not short circuit + and poles of batteries. Short circuit between
poles with metals like paper pincer or screwdriver may cause
permanent damage and it may cause fire because of high current
capacities of batteries.
Batteries that are not going to be used anymore must be destroyed
under appropriate circumstances for environment health.

If explosive gasses exit at the atmosphere, do not replace batteries.

Touching of the contacts may cause a spark and it may cause an
explosion.

It is preferred that the batteries must be completely discharged before

charging them again.

HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL

SK2 Handheld Radios Operating Manual is prepared to introduce the radio to the user and
tell its usage properties.
At first chapter radio is being introduced.
At the second chapter instructions to use the radio are given.
1.3.

INTRODUCTION

VHF Handheld radio units work between the 146-176MHz frequency band, UHF Handheld
radio units work between the 450-470MHz frequency band. Handheld radio units make
simplex and/or semi-duplex transmit/receive by frequency modulation. This device is
synthesized and microprocessor controlled, and is projected according to the last
developments in electronics and microprocessor technology to provide high performance
and reliable communication.
Handheld radio uses the system interface protocol and that allows various options to be
programmed. SK2 handheld radios are compatible with ASELSAN and ETS-300 086,
ETS-300 113 and TGM ST-001 standards.

SERVICES FOR RADIO USERS

1.4.1. Audio Services

1.4.1.1.

Group Call

Groups are created in the system. Only the members of a group can listen to a call in that
group. A radio user can be the member of more than one group. Every group has a call
group identification. Totally a hundred group may be defined for one radio unit and these
groups are classified and described as below;

0-29: for the inner-system users communication

30-59: for inner- fleet users communication

60-89: for local communication

90-94: for inter system communication by using inter system common key

95-98: for inter system communication by using inter system common algorithm and
key

99: for inter system communication in digital clear mode

1.4.1.2.

Individual Call

Individual call is the type of call that covers only two subscribers. The calling radio unit
user sends to the system the individual call number of the radio with which he is looking
forward to communicate. Only the radios that are vested with the authority by the SKM
(System Control Unit) can make an individual call.
1.4.1.3.

Broadcast Call

A special call can be made in the system for every radio unit to listen. 0 numbered group is
used for broadcast call. This group is programmed to every radio. Only the authorized
radios can make a broadcast call.
1.4.1.4.

PABX/PSTN Subscriber Call

SK2 Radios can initiate a telephone call to a PABX/PSTN subscriber at System Mode or
Digital Clear Mode. Only authorized radios can start this call. For this purpose, the radio
user pushes the # button three times and enters the telephone number at the TELNO:
screen. After the number is entered correctly the user pushes the select button. Here the
EXT: screen appears and the user enters the extension number if there is any. In case
there is not an extension number, the user pushes select button, leaving the EXT: field
empty. By this way the telephone call starts in the system.

OPERATING MANUAL

After connecting to the called number radio passes to Phone Call Mode. If none of the
users talk within 6 seconds period call has been interrupted. Call can also be interrupted
by pressing Monitor/Option Button.
A PABX/PSTN user can also call to a SK2 radio or group. For this purpose, the telephone
user first dials the number of the Telephone Interconnect Unit and then the group or
individual radio number, attaching # to the end..
1.4.2. Applications
1.4.2.1.

Emergency Call

Radio users can make a special call in emergency. Emergency call can be made by the
radios vested with authority.
1.4.2.2.

Short Message Call

In the system, radio users may transmit a short message to the System Control Unit. 10
short messages saved in the memory. While messaging with short message call, radio
transmits the message dialed from keypad with its identification. The System Control Unit
Operator identifies 8 character short messages.
1.5.

FUNCTIONS OF RADIO UNIT

1.5.1. Channel Scan

When a call received from a channel exists in the scan channel list, radio unit can pass
transmission from that channel. If no transmission has been made during scan delay
period, user turns back to the previous channel.
1.5.2. Group Scan
When a call received from a group that the radio unit included, even if the radio is in
another group it can join the conversation. If no transmission has been made in scan delay
period, user turns back to the previous group.
1.5.3. Entering Late
A radio may enter a conversation or listen to it while it's going on at a channel or a group
that the radio included. In this manner, the radio which has just turned on or change
channel can be included in channel or group without waiting the end of the interview.
