Literacy report.

Dear parent/ caregiver of Abby.

Abby has shown she is meeting her appropriate standard for oral language, showing strengths of
being a confident speaker who regularly contributes to classroom discussions. When sharing with
the classroom she is able to use appropriate language to the context, topic, and purpose of the
discussion.
Abby has made pleasing progress in her reading, achieving at her appropriate age level of 9.5 10.5, showing promising reading strategies monitoring her own mistakes. Abby lacks confidence in
her own reading abilities, hesitant to attempt unfamiliar words.
Writing is an area of literacy where your child requires further development, being slightly below
her appropriate writing level. Abby needs extra support with grammar, spelling, and punctuation to
progress her to her appropriate writing standard, achieving at level 3.
Suggestions for how you can help support your childs literacy needs:
- Support Abby with presenting a speech. Allow Abby the opportunity to present her speech to you,
giving her feedback.
-Build up Abbys confidence in reading, having her regularly read a range of texts out loud to you.
-Support Abby with her grammar, spelling, and punctuation at home. Monitor Abbys spelling
progression, encouraging her to achieve 10/10 for her weekly spelling words.
How I plan to support your childs literacy needs:
-Our oral focus in class will be on presenting a speech. I will support Abby through giving her the
opportunity to practice her speech providing her with feedback.
-I will work closely with Abby to build up her confidence in reading. In guided reading and one on
one sessions, Abby will be given opportunities to read out loud.
-Writing is an area of literacy where I will support your child, giving her one on one support. In
group writing sessions we will explore how we use punctuation in our writing.
