Note List for Eng.

101 Paper 3
Focusing on one chosen topic in preparation
for Paper 3, The Note List should be a
typed/word-processed list (3rd person) with
three entries (one paraphrase, one quote,
and one summary) from five different
sources (fifteen entries total).

Using MLA

documentation mechanics (LBH Chap. 46a-b),

the NL must cite at least five reputable
sources obtained through the MSJC library,
at least two of which must be recent (last
3 years).

No dictionary or encyclopedia

entries are allowed on the Note List.

Each

one of the five sources should be properly

documented according to MLA Works Cited
format (LBH Chap. 46b), followed by the
paraphrase, quote, and summary.

Each entry

should be documented using a signal phrase

or an MLA in-text parenthetic citation (LBH
Chap. 43d-e, 46a).

Times 17 Jul. 2011: 11. Newspaper Source Plus. Web. 15 Aug.
2013.
PARAPHRASE
After some successes and failures, Bob Hertzberg (co-founder of
G24) believes that the company has discovered the proper focus
for its future: solar power strips and technology for small
electronics (Fortson 11).
QUOTE
According to Fortson, Texas Instruments, the American
electronics group, said G24's solar strips are the world's most
efficient at harvesting indoor light energy and has signed a
year-long strategic partnership with the firm (11).
SUMMARY
In this article, Fortson covers the history and potential future
of G24, a solar power company in England, which has been working
on cutting-edge technology (11).

"RESEARCH ON THIN-FILM SOLAR CELLS HEATS UP AT UNIVERSITY OF

CALIFORNIA AT SANTA CRUZ." US Fed News Service, Including US
State News. 4 Nov. 2010. ProQuest Research Library. Web. 20
Aug. 2013.

PARAPHRASE
Although regular silicon-cell technology still predominates, and
Silicon is fairly accessible and cost-effective, there are some
problems and limitations with the older technology (RESEARCH).
QUOTE
This article points out that Sue Carter, a professor of physics
at the University of California, Santa Cruz, runs a research lab
that uses thin-film technologies and printable semiconductor
materials and printable semiconductor materials that enable the
production of solar cells using less material and less energy
compared to standard manufacturing processes (RESEARCH).
SUMMARY
According to the article, Carters lab is studying and testing
several alternative cutting-edge solar technologies that show
promise for the future (RESEARCH).
"Presses roll for cheaper solar panels." The Sunday Times
(London) 9 May, 2010: B11. LexisNexis Academic. Web. 15 Aug.
2013.
PARAPHRASE
Omar Cheema, both founder and CEO of the Solar Press company,
believes a new technology could drastically lower the cost of
solar production and help the worlds most destitute have
affordable access to non-polluting solar power (Presses Roll).
QUOTE
According to the article Presses roll for cheaper solar
panels, British scientists claim to have invented an
electrical material that can be used like an ink and printed on
to [solar] panels by the presses that produce newspapers.
SUMMARY
This article covers the details of how the new technology works,
the companys plans to develop it, and what the potential
benefits could be (Presses Roll).

Hamer, Glenn. "Solar Power Can Help Fuel the Future." Energy
Alternatives. Ed. Barbara Passero. Detroit: Greenhaven
Press, 2006. Opposing Viewpoints. Rpt. from "Solar Power
2002." World & I 17 (June 2002). Opposing Viewpoints In
Context. Web. 15 Aug. 2013.
PARAPHRASE
Former executive director of the Solar Energy Industries
Association in Washington, D.C., Glen Hamer claims that the U.S.
has some of the most promising potential solar power producing
sites in the world.
QUOTE
According to Hamer, during the 21st Century, some predict that
the [worlds] electricity system may come to resemble the
Internetwith disparate points and no one center of activity. In
such a system, photovoltaics integrated into building roofs and
windows will be a key component.
SUMMARY
The article covers the three basic kinds of solar energy,
discusses the reliability and benefits of these technologies,
and proposes that solar energy production will help promote
employment and lower energy costs in the U.S. (Hamer).
United States. United States Environmental Protection Agency.
Development of Intelligent Process Control for Thin Film
Solar Panel Manufacturing. EPA. U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, 18 Mar. 2010. Web.

PARAPHRASE

31 Aug. 2013.

The production of thin-cell solar technologies is currently

plagued by errors, waste, and inefficiency (United).

QUOTE
According to the EPA, the Small Business Innovation Research
project is aimed at improving the production of thin film solar
technology, which is the most rapidly growing solar industry.
The proposed development will increase the conversion efficiency
of thin film solar panels, resulting in lower cost, increased
solar technology adoption, reduced carbon emissions, and reduced
dependency on foreign oil (United).
SUMMARY
The EPA explains that the main goals of the Small Business
Innovation Research Project are to reduce waste and inefficiency
involved with solar thin film production (United).
