1. INTRODUCTION
The series C offers a complete range of fully programmable measure interfaces,
either with the console or by PC via the configuration software.
The series C accepts 2 types of consoles :
the old generation with 4 electroluminescent alphanumerical green digits,
the new generation with rear-lit graphical LCD.
The LCD allow the visualisation of 4 pieces of information:
- the value of the measure (5 mm high),
- the unit of the displayed measure, *
- the value of the analog output or the name of the product (TAG), *
- the status of the relay outputs and the RS485 communication. *
*(3.5 mm high)
This console with LCD also allows showing these information vertically or horizontally according to the sense in which the converter is mounted.
Input features common to the series C10, C 305U, C 405U,
C 805U, C3011/3211, C4001/3211F
- thermocouple inputs (J, K, B, R, S, T, E, N, L, W, W3, WRE5)
- sensor inputs: Pt100, Ni 100
- resistive sensors: caliber 0-400 and 0-2 k (0-8 k optional)
- potentiometers: from 100 to 10 k
Input features specific to the series C10
- a DC unidirectionnal current or voltage input:
0-100 mV, 0-1V, 0-10V, 0-300V, 0-20mA.
Input features specific to the series C 305U, C 405U,
C 805U, C3011/3211, C3012/3212 et C4001/3211F/3212F
- a DC bidirectionnal current or voltage input:
100 mV, 1V, 10V, 300V, 20mA.
Input features specific to the series C4001/3211F/3212F
- fast acquisition, allowing a response time of the analog and relay outputs < 20 ms.
AVAILABLE OPTIONS: (specify on order)
Series C10
- Insulated analog output A:
Programmable output: active or passive current, or voltage.
- Relay output R:
2 relays - Mode setpoint or window.
Recording of the alarms.
Time delay and hysteresis adjustable on each setpoint.
Alarm messages.
Series C 305/405/805U
- Insulated analog output A :
Active current or voltage output (specify on order)
- Output 4 relays R4 :
1 NO contact

4 relays - mode setpoint or window

Recording of the alarms.
Time delay and hysteresis adjustable on each setpoint.
Alarm messages.
Series C 3011 / 3012 / 4001
- Insulated analog output A:
Programmable output: active or passive current, or voltage.
- Relay output R : 2 relays - Mode setpoint or window.
Recording of alarms.
Time delay and hysteresis ajustable on each setpoint.
Alarm messages.
- Insulated digital data link N: RS 485 2 wire, protocole MODBUS-JBUS..
Note : The presence of the option digital data link suppresses the possibility to
have a voltage or a passive current output on the option insulated analog output. In this case, only the active current output will be available.
If the digital data link is not present, the current and voltage outputs do not operate
independently : only one type of output can be considered at the same time (mA or
V on choice). This can be parametered on the instrument.
If in the programming menus (see p11) the user chooses OUT.I (mA output) then the
current output (terminals S9 and S10) will react correctly according to the entered
programming.
Caution: the voltage output OUT.U (output V) (terminals S1 and S2) will also send a
signal, which can not be considered as valid.
If the user programmes the type of the output as current (OUT.I) only the signal on the
current output terminals (S9 and S10) will be valid, even if a voltage is generated on
terminals S1 and S2. On the contrary if the user programmes the type of the output
as voltage (OUT.U) only the signal on the voltage output terminals (S1 and S2) will be
valid, even if a current is generated on terminals S9 and S10.
Series C 3211 / 3212 / 3211F/3212F
This family of Cs always have 2 insulated analog outputs.
For versions R (with relays) the type of each of the 2 outputs (current or voltage)
must be specified on order.
For versions N (with digital data link) the type of output current or voltage is available for each of the 2 outputs. Each of the 2 outputs can be programmed as active or
passive current, or voltage.
However for each output the current or voltage outputs can not operate independently: only 1 type of output can be considered at one time (mA or V). This can be
parametered on the instrument.
Example : If in the programming menus (see page 12) the user chooses OU1.I (mA
output) then the current output n1 (terminals S9 and S10) will react correctly according to the entered programming.
Caution : the voltage output n1 (terminals S7 and S8) will also emit a signal, which
can not be considered as valid. If the user programmes the type of output n1 as
current (OU1.I) only the signal on the current output terminals n1 (S9 and S10)
will be valid, even if a voltage is generated on terminals S7 and S8.
p2
The programming of the scale ratios is independent for each of the 2 outputs.

This console which can be clipped on the front face allows visualising the measure, or occasional modifications of the programming via a 4-key keyboard. It also
allows teleloading programming files to other products of the SFERE range.
The programming menus and the functions which can be accessed from the console are detailed in the following pages.
The series C accepts 2 types of consoles :
The old generation with 4 (alphanumerical) 4 electroluminescent green digits,
the new generation with graphical rear-lit LCD.
The LCD allows visualising 4 pieces of information:
- the value of the measure (5 mm high),
- the unit of the displayed measure *,
- the value of the analog output or the name of the product (TAG)*,
- the status of the relay outputs and the RS485 digital data link *.
* (3.5 mm high)
This console with LCD also allows showing these information either vertically or
horizontally, according to the sense of mounting of the converter.

p4

To allow the inserting of the console: mount the

instruments vertically (on horizontal DIN rail),
leaving a 5mm space between each.

With the configuration software MC VISION

To communicate with the series C from a PC you will need a connection cable. To
connect this cable to the C, unclip the front face and insert the DIN plug into the
especially foreseen female connector (see the drawing herafter). Then connect the
SUBD 9 point plug on a serial port of the PC.
The software MC VISION allows reading the measures or modifying the programming of the converter.
Each configuration is kept as files which can be stored on hard or floppy disk.
These files can then be consulted, modified, duplicated or loaded into the converters. The files can be created with or without having a converter connected. This
software also allows the saving of existing configurations from the instruments
already in service. All files can be edited on any type of printer.

Example 1: For a 4/20 mA signal from a level sensor on a tank, the following
programming is displayed:
in the menu INP: TYPE = mA
in the menu DISP: SCALE YES, POIN = _ _ _ . _ FUNC = LIN, dINP = 4.00 ,
F.INP = 20.00, dDIS = 000.0, F.DIS =300.0
CUT = NO for:
4 mA from the sensor, display = 000.0 m3*
12 mA from the sensor, display = 150.0 m3
20 mA from the sensor, display = 300.0 m3
* m3 is the unit of the physical magnitude, and can appear on the LCD graphical console

The transmitter can be configured in mode indicator, without leaving the

console permanently connected (or even having a console).
In the case of MODE INDICATOR (with a physical scale programme by SCALE,
YES), the parameters down and full display scale, cut-off and ordinates (if input
linearised in segments) are to be considered in the magnitude of the programmed physical scale. The setpoints, hysteresis, dOdl and F.ldl for the analog output can be programmed either as input magnitude, or as displayed magnitude
(according to PARA).
For example 1, with PARA DISP validated, a setpoint on relay 1 (SPI.I) with
a value of 30.0 corresponds to a setpoint of 30.0 m3. If the display overstepps
30.0m3 (if the input overstepps 5.60 mA) the status of relay 1 will change.
Note : If you do not want to overload the programming too much with a superfluous physical display, programme SCALE NO (mode transmitter). In this case,
do not enter the parameters DDIS, FDIS.
In the case of MODE TRANSMITTER (SCALE NO) the parameters setpoints,
hysteresis, cut-off and ordinates (if input linearised in segments) are to be considered in the physical magnitude of the programmed input type (V, mA, etc...).
In example 1, for the status of relay 1 to trip if the level overstepps 30.0m3, enter
for setpoint 1 a value of SP1.1 = 5.60 for 5.60mA.

For the temperature input, when the resolution is changed from RES=1C to
RES = 0.1C or the contrary, the user does not need to modify all the display related parameters again.
(on the console you will need to enter the 4 digits and the place of the decimal
point for each parameter).

4.6 Features of the inputs

4.6.1 Current input

mA

Square root extraction:

or voltage

ROOT

The function square root tends to amplify the background noise of the input
signal when getting near zero.
To avoid the ripples caused by this noise, simply programme a cut-off value (in
display points).
If the display is below this value it will be held at the down scale (if the full input
scale > down input scale) or at the full scale (if the full input scale < down input
scale).

Special linearisation:

SEGT

According to the choice SCALE YES / NO , you can choose to have a

physical display scale on the converter, or not.
SCALE YES lets the parameters dDIS and F.DIS (down and full display scale corresponding to the down and full input scale, as selected in dINP and F.INP) appear.
With the configuration SCALE YES it may be considered that the converter is
operating as an indicator capable of dispaying, either locally (on the console)
or in a shifted way with the configuration software, a measured physical magnitude.
The unit of the displayed physical magnitude is recorded in the converter for
display on the PC software in association with the physical measure on the setting parameters: setpoints, hysteresis, etc...

All the programming parameters are entered with their own decimal, independent
from this parameter POIN.
POIN is the maximum number of decimals which you wish to display. In case of
overstepping of the display capacity, the instrument will automatically reduce the
number of decimals.
eg.: POIN = - - . - Number
Display
0
00.00
1
01.00
5
05.00
52,3
52.30
121,1
121.1
1300
1300.

4.5.1 Mode transmiter / indicator

The parameter POIN is to be considered as the position of the decimal point for the
display of the measure in the case of an input different from temperature.

4.5 Display of the measure

4.5.2 Place of the decimal point / resolution

Note : An exit from mode programming with saving of the configuration (SAVE,
YES) will automatically reset to zero the min. and the max., as well as the recording of alarms.
After SAVE, YES the console will show WAIT during the converer re-initialisation
phase.

For specific applications such as the measurement of volumes, the

meter can memorise an unlinear curve, programmable in X and in Y.
The curve resulting from your equation can be replaced by a series of
linear segments with a maximum of 20 points (19 segments).
Note that X00 = dINP, and the abscisse of the last point is
XNB-1 = F.INP
p16

Note 1: The values of the abscisses (x) must go increasing: value of X00
< value of X01...
Note 2: In special linearisation and in mode transmitter (SCALE NO),
the displayed measure is the measure linearised by the programming of
points. The undeformed input measure can always be accessed by the
function direct measure (see p26) on the console or on the variable
Input on the software.
Example:

For the maximum response time of the relay outputs, add15 ms to the table of the analog
output response times.

Caution: The response times may undergo variations in case of internal selfcalibration: the instrument will at some times perform an internal self-calibration
in order to catch up with any drifts of its components. During this operation the
response time of the instrument can be increased by 5 ms, 20 ms or 100 ms
(depending on the programmed cycle time value).
During the phases of teleloading of configuration with the console, the response times are no more garanteed.
These self-calibrations are performed every 10 seconds during the 10 minutes
following a setting on tension (stabilisation time of the components).
For the inputs with 2 measures (thermocouples, Pt 100, Ni 100 and potentiometer), the 2nd measure is performed every minute.
During this measure, the maximum response time on the relays or the analog
output increases by 5 ms, 20 ms or 100 ms according to the value of the programmed cycle time (2 ms, 20 ms or 100 ms).
The input Pt100 is available only with an acquisition time T.MES of
100ms.
Sensor rupture (input mV, thermocouples or resistance with caliber 400 ): add
2 ms to the response time of the analog and relay outputs if you are using the
sensor rupture detection: CAPT ON in the menu RUPT (SECU)

p20

Note : The instrument will also perform 3 self-calibrations during the 30

seconds following an exit from the programming with saving of the configuration (SAVE, YES) or after an electrical overstepping of the input.

Shifting of the display down scale ADJ

example:
For a PT100 input for 0C, the obtained display is -000.3
For 500C the obtained display is 0500.2. To correct this display, the
display down scale must be shifted by 3 points to obtain 000.0 and the
display full scale by -2 points to obtain 0500.0.
note: Only for temperature inputs:
From the menu READ, the performed scale shiftings can be visualised in
the submenu INP:

M Shifting of the display full scale ADJ

After injecting an input signal corresponding to the down (or full) display
scale, press simultaneously on keys
and
(or
and M ). The
message ADJ
( ADJ
) will appear alternating with the value, to indicate that you are in the menu adjustment.
By pressing
and
you can increase or decrease the down (or full)
display scale.
If you keep pressing during 3s. on key
or
you can access a fast
increasing or decreasing of the display value.
Press
to validate the shifting. OK appears during the acknowledgement of the shifting (1s.), and then the instrument reverts to mode
measure. Once all the shiftings are validated, the input thus shifted will
keep this shifting even after a setting off tension.
Press M (or do not press any key during 20 s.) to revert to the measure display without modification.
Case of a process, resistance or potentiometer input
The instrument will then re-adjust its scale factor and its display factor in
order to obtain the required result on the display.
