Four Frames Concept Paper:
Futbol Club Barcelona (FCB)
Why I chose this organization:
I am a fan of Futbol Club Barcelona (FCB) because it strives for executing with
excellence and consists of a team of world-class players that are able to display how magnificent
the game of football can be. In addition, I empathize with FCBs commitment to support the
Catalan society in its effort to preserve its unique language and culture. Finally, I chose FCB as
my four-frame paper entity because of the following reasons:

By concentrating on a sports organization I enjoy watching as well as talking and writing

about, I will be able to maintain my focus and execute to my 100%.

By focusing on a sports organization, I challenge myself to apply the four frames in a

totally different context not covered in OBC-500 case studies and presentations.
By challenging myself I will deepen my understanding of the four frames and further
increase the learning value of OBC-500.

Structural Frame: I intend to classify and analyze FCBs organization structure at a higher level
by selecting the best fitting model from Mintzbergs five structural configurations. Further, I will
define its roles and responsibilities for each of the five components as well as how a football
squad operates using a Fundamental Team Configuration analysis. The structural information
will be collected through FCBs official website.

HR Frame: For this frame I aim to discuss what the organization and the people do for one
another. In essence, the relationships between how FCB builds trust, empower their employees
and promotes diversity. I will explore the hiring and loaning process of players and how the

organization maintains the chemistry and happiness of the squad. I will collect the information
from a reference book about the history of FCB.

Political Frame: I plan to explore the relationships between La Liga BBVA (i.e., Spain Football
League) and FCB as well as between FCB and the fans. In addition, I intend to go over conflicts
between the coach and players and how it affects the organization. The information will be
collected from the reference book mentioned previously and Internet articles.

Symbolic Frame: FCB is rich in symbolic components. In this frame I intend to go over FCBs
founding story and its motto More than a Club. I will investigate the meaning of the crest, the
stadium and its anthem. Further, I propose to explore its values, heroes, scapegoats, language,
traditions and the symbolic role of FCB for the Catalan society. The sources to collect the
information are all the previously mentioned as well as additional Internet websites.
