About This Chapter


The BTS3900B is a highly integrated pico BTS. It incorporates functions such as transmission,
main control, baseband processing, RF processing, and power amplification into a single module.
The functions of the BTS3900B are as follows:
l

Supports the dual-band network configuration and a maximum of two carriers.

Supports the IP transmission and IPSec protocol.

Supports automatic data configuration.

Support automatic frequency planning.

Supports the AC input and PoE (Power over Ethernet) power supply modes.

The BTS3900B adopts a compact modular design so that the components can be easily
assembled and disassembled to meet the requirements for fast network deployment.

2.1 BTS3900B Module


This describes the appearance, ports, buttons, and LEDs of the BTS3900B.
2.2 Power Adapter
The power adapter converts the 110 V AC/220 V AC to 12 V DC and provides input power for
the BTS3900B.
2.3 PSE
In PoE power supply mode, the PSE is used to provide input power for the BTS3900B through
the Ethernet cable.
2.4 BTS3900B Cables
The BTS3900B cables are the power cable and Ethernet cable.

2.1 BTS3900B Module


This describes the appearance, ports, buttons, and LEDs of the BTS3900B.
The BTS3900B processes the baseband signals and RF signals. A single BTS3900B can be
configured with one or two carriers.

Appearance
The BTS3900B supports both the built-in antenna and the external antenna. Figure 2-1 shows
the BTS3900B with built-in antennas and BTS3900B with external antennas.

Panel
The following takes the BTS3900B module with external antennas as an example. The panels
of the BTS3900B are as shown in Figure 2-2.

2.2 Power Adapter


The power adapter converts the 110 V AC/220 V AC to 12 V DC and provides input power for
the BTS3900B.
Figure 2-3 shows the power adapter.

The DC input power cable is 1.2 m long and has a 4-pin connector at one end. The connector is
used to connect the PWR port of the BTS3900B module.

2.3 PSE
In PoE power supply mode, the PSE is used to provide input power for the BTS3900B through
the Ethernet cable.

Figure 2-4 shows the appearance of the PSE.

2.4 BTS3900B Cables

provide power for the power adapter or PSE.
2.4.2 Ethernet Cable
The Ethernet cable is used to connect the BTS3900B to the BSC thorough the transmission
device.

provide power for the power adapter or PSE.

Appearance
The BTS3900B power cable is 2 m long. Figure 2-5 shows the BTS3900B power cable.

The Ethernet cable is used to connect the BTS3900B to the BSC thorough the transmission

3.1 Maintenance Items for the BTS3900B


This describes the maintenance items for the BTS3900B. The maintenance items are equipment
surface, equipment cleanliness, and LEDs.

3.2 Powering On and Powering Off the BTS3900B

based on the status of the LEDs.
3.2.2 Powering Off the BTS3900B
This describes how to power off of the BTS3900B.

3.2.1 Powering On the BTS3900B


This describes how to power on the BTS3900B and check the running status of the BTS3900B
based on the status of the LEDs.

Prerequisite

The hardware and cables of the BTS3900B are installed.

The input voltage is within a normal range.

The data of the BTS3900B is configured on the BSC side.

In PoE power supply mode, the PSE is normally powered on.

Procedure
Step 1 Power on the BTS3900B.
l

AC power supply: Connect the AC power cable on the power adapter of the BTS3900B to
the AC power connector bar, and then power on the BTS3900B.

PoE power supply: Connect the PoE port on the PSE to the FE/GE port on the BTS3900B
main component through an Ethernet cable, and then power on the BTS3900B.

Step 2 Open the LED cover, and then check the status of the LEDs on the BTS3900B.
Table 3-2 shows normal states of the LEDs on the BTS3900B.

Step 3 Take corresponding actions based on the status of the LEDs.

The BTS3900B is running normally. Go to Step 4.

abnormal.

Perform the following operations to rectify the fault:

Check the input power.

Replace the BTS3900B module.

After the fault is cleared, power on the BTS3900B again. If the LED
is normal, go to Step 4. If the LED is abnormal, contact Huawei
engineers for technical support.
The RUN/ALM LED
is abnormal.

Perform the following operations to rectify the fault:


l

Check the data configuration on the BSC side.

Reset the BTS3900B.

Clear the alarm.

Replace the BTS3900B module.

After the fault is cleared, power on the BTS3900B again. If the LED
is normal, go to Step 4. If the LED is abnormal, contact Huawei
engineers for technical support.

If ...

Then ...

The LINK LED is


abnormal.

Perform the following operations to rectify the fault:


l

Reconnect the Ethernet cable.

After the fault is cleared, power on the BTS3900B again. If the LED
is normal, go to Step 4. If the LED is abnormal, contact Huawei
engineers for technical support.

Step 4 Close the LED cover. The powering on procedure completes.

3.2.2 Powering Off the BTS3900B


This describes how to power off of the BTS3900B.

Procedure
Step 1 Power off the BTS3900B in different power supply modes.
If...

Then

The AC power supply is available.

Go to Step 2.

The PoE power supply is available.

Go to Step 3.

Step 2 Unplug the power cable from the AC power terminal bar to power off the BTS3900B.
Step 3 Unplug the RJ45 connector of the Ethernet cable to the FE/GE port on the BTS3900B panel to
power off the BTS3900B, and cut off the power of the PSE at the same time.

3.3 Replacing the BTS3900B


This describes how to replace the BTS3900B. Replacing the BTS3900B disrupts all the services
carried by the BTS3900B.

Prerequisite

Confirm the number and frequency band types of the BTS3900B modules to be replaced.
Keep new BTS3900B modules ready and record the bar codes of the modules.

The installation positions of the BTS3900B modules are recorded.

The mapping relations between the cables and the ports on the BTS3900B modules are
recorded.

The user service tool kit is available.

Procedure
Step 1 Change the administrative status of a cell.
1.

On the BSC6900 LMT, enter SET GCELLADMSTAT in the Command Input box.

2.

Click Assist. Then, set Index Type to BYID(By Index), set Cell Index based on the actual
situation, and set Administrative State to LOCK(Lock), as shown in Figure 3-1.

Click Exec to block the cell.

Step 2 Change the bar code of the interface board on the BTS3900B.
1.

On the BSC6900 LMT, enter MOD BTSESN in the Command Input box.

2.

Click Assist. Then, set BTS Index Type to BYID(By Index), set BTS Index based on the
actual situation, and enter the bar code of the new interface board in BTS Interface Board
Bar Code 1, as shown in Figure 3-2.

3.

Click Exec to change the bar code of the interface board.

Step 3 Power off the BTS3900B.


Step 4 Remove all the cables that are connected to the BTS3900B module and take proper insulation
measures.
Step 5 Remove the BTS3900B module.
Step 6 Install a new BTS3900B module. For details about the installation procedure, see the BTS3900B
GSM Quick Installation Guide.
Step 7 Connect all the cables to the new BTS3900B module.
Step 8 Power on the BTS3900B, and then perform operations based on the networking mode.

3 Maintaining the BTS3900B

If ...

Step 9 Set the preconfiguration information through the USB disk.
Step 10 Change the administrative status of the cell.

On the BSC6900 LMT, enter SET GCELLADMSTAT in the Command Input box.

Click Assist. Then, set Index Type to BYID(By Index), set Cell Index based on the actual
situation, and set Administrative State to UNLOCK(Unlock), as shown in Figure 3-3.

Click Exec to unblock the cell.

Step 11 Check the status of the LEDs on the panel of the BTS3900B module. For details about the status
of the LEDs, see LEDs on the BTS3900B.
Step 12 Perform dialing tests and ensure that the cell services of the new BTS3900B module are normal.
