Class Information

Students have 1 ELA block
(48 min.), once a day, every
week, plus an additional
literacy block to support and
enhance the learning taking
place in class.

We will be reading and analyzing a


variety of texts such as: Tuck Everlasting
by Natalie Babbitt, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen,
and a collection of short stories, and other
media and texts.

In this class we will be:

- Writing extensively in a variety of forms and


genres
- Doing individual, pair, and group work
- Exploring the rules and conventions of writing
- Researching and reading a lot!
- Practicing speaking with and without
preparation in front of a group
- Learning and practicing reading comprehension
skills

Final Exam 15%

Assessment is ongoing and will be assessed through a


variety of methods, including: assignments, quizzes, and
projects etc.

Curricular Outcomes

Students will participate in a variety of activities in order to


become confident and competent in all 6 of the language arts
components: listen, speak, read, write, view and represent.

Late/ Make-up Work Policy
The expectation is that you submit all
assignments on time.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to
follow proper procedures to ensure that
you receive your work.
Technological issues do not excuse you
from completing your work.

Technology
We will be utilizing various resources to
access the Internet to research, review
material, and submit assignments. You
must hold yourselves to high
expectations when you use these
resources. Your time must be spent well.
Cell phones are not permitted in class.

Academic Dishonesty
All work that you submit must be
your own work. You may not do
any of the following:
1) Turn in or copy someone elses work.
2) Copy someones work and change a
few of the words.
3) Copying words from a source without
citing it and giving credit to the source.
4) Attempt to use any notes on a closednote assignment.
5) Look at someone elses work during an
quiz, test, or otherwise individual
assessment.
If you are doing any of the above or
anything else that constitutes cheating,
you will receive a zero on that assignment,
and you will be referred for discipline.

1) Show respect.
2) Be responsible.
3) Control your own behaviour.
4) Be here.
5) Be on time.
6) Care.
7) Dont do dumb stuff.
