two critical areas in social and environmental development:

building vocational skills to support

Embedding good corporate citizenship practices and sustainable
development in our business makes good sense. For Godrej, it is not
just an aspiration, it is core to our 2020 business vision. It will
improve lives of those at the base of the income pyramid, safeguard
the environment, improve the efficiency of our operations and generate
innovative new processes.

The International Monetary Fund predicts
that by 2040 India will be the largest
contributor to the global workforce.
Meanwhile, economic growth in India is
likely to create 500 million jobs in the next
decade. Of these new jobs, about 375
million will be skill based. Currently only
about 2-4% of the trained workforce has
had any vocational education and 8/10 of
new entrants have had no skill training at all!

At Godrej, we collaborate with non-profit organisations

and social enterprises to design training programmes to
help disadvantaged youth and the communities they live
in. These trainings enable young people to find jobs or
set-up their own small businesses or other
income-generating opportunities.
What is more, we routinely track progress of our
interventions using a robust IT tool. It helps us monitor
student demographics, and programme effectiveness.
