Summary of relevant Chanakyaniti

1. If you were choose between an evil person and a snake to keep company with, opt for the
snake. Because the snake will bite you only in self-defense but the evil person will put a bite
for any reason and any time or always.
2. Too much beauty got Sita kidnapped, too much ego got Ravana killed and too much
charity got Raja Bhoj in deep trouble. Tool much of anything is bad. Stay away from too
much.
3. A dried tree catches fire and it engulfs the entire forest in flames. Similarly a bad son born to a
family can destroy the entire clan.
4. Indulge son up to the fifth year of his age, cane and rebuke can be used for the next ten
years. But when he enters 16th year if his age, then on he must be treated as a friend by
the father.
5. A wise person must always keeps in mind the following thought being pondered over.
How is the time treating me? How many true friends have I made? How is the place I live
at? How much do I earn and how do I spend it? Who I am and what am I capable of?
6. The fire is god of the two castes. God of the sages lives in their hearts. God of fools and slow
brains live in idols. But those who have unprejudiced vision, they see God everywhere and
everything.
7. Infatuation is the most sickening disease. Greed is the worst enemy. Anger is the worst fire.
Knowledge is the most comforting possession.
8. A human comes alone in this world. Alone does he get award and punishment for the good
deeds or sins respectively. Alone he deports for the heavenly abode.
9. The rain over ocean, feeding a person who is already fed, giving donations to the rich, lighting
a lamp in broad day light, these are meaningless exercises.
10. The time consumes all creatures. It kills everyone. It is awake when people sleep. No one
can escape from it consuming power.
11. Do not be too simple and too straight. Go to the jungle to see how the smooth and straight
trees have been cut down mercifully but the crooked ones stand unharmed.
12. Be content with what you have already got as wife, food and income. But dont be content
with your knowledge, self improvement and charity.
13. Money earned must be spent to keep it in circulation. Put it to good use which is the best
protective investment. The water of the pond has inflow and outflow systems. That keeps
the water clean.
14. The flowers have fragrance, oilseeds have oil, wood has the fire, milk has butter and cane has
sugar in it but we cant see these with our eyes. In the similar way a soul exists in the body
which is invisible. It is a mystery only can be understood through faith and logic.
15. In this world, those who desire only wealth are the lowly people at the lowest level. Those
who desire wealth and respect are the people of the middle level. The people at the highest
level only desire honour and respect.
16. Those who reveal the secrets of others and use foul language. They get destroyed as snake
trapped in a moth hill perishes.

17. Dont ever wake up a sleeping, serpent, king, tiger, pig, child others dog and fool. Leave
them asleep.
18. Even a poison less snake must raise its hood to frighten away the enemy because the
enemy does not know about the absence of poison in it.
19. In poverty the patience makes the poverty look bearable. Even an ordinary cloth looks good if
kept clean. If the food is not rich and tasty, eating it fresh and hot makes it tolerable. Similarly
a good character makes up for the lack of the physical beauty.
20. It is of no use to give advice to the persons who have no capacity to receive or imbibe. The
fragrance winds coming from the forest of sandalwood trees do not aromate the bamboo
groves which continue to be offensive smelling.
21. If kareel tree does not grow leaves, is it the spring to be blames? If the owl cant see
during the day, is it the Sun to be blamed? If the rain drop does not fall in the open beak
of the cuckoo, is it the rain to be blamed? It is all in the fate and the destiny.

the glory. They themselves achieve nothing but find some consolation in belittling the

spread over countless fields and subjects. But the human life is very short and full of
hurdles. Hence the only gist of the knowledge should be sought. Just like a swan that sips
the milk and leaves out water.
29. There are many types of bondages in the world. But the bondage of love is unique. It is
paralyzing. The black bee has the power to bore holes in wood. But the same bee remains
trapped in the petals of the lotus unable to bore its way to freedom because it is in love
with the flower, in deep love.

got ready to get the golden deer for this beloved wife, Sita. It is clear that the adverse
times a mans wisdom deserts him.

man other than her husband. Such knowledge is never recognized by any faculty of
