PART 3: Describe an interesting animal

1.Why do people like to keep pets?
Its mainly because that nowadays people sometimes feel lonely while pets can
both serve as good companions and drive away peoples loneliness. Especially for
young children, pets can be their best partners. For example, in some foreign
hospitals, doctors sometimes let dogs accompany with sick children, giving them
comfort and encouragement.
2.What should we do to protect endangered animals?
Its everyones duty to love and protect endangered animals. First and most
important, we should establish the concepts of protecting endangered animals and
their habitats and propagate the law of wildlife protection. Another way is that we
should refuse to eat endangered animals, as well as use fur products.
3.Do you support doing an experiment on animals?
Yes, although I dont support the suffering of animals, advances in medicine
should be a priority. For example, testing pharmaceuticals on animals are still the
most efficient way to examine the efficacy and safety of medicines. But I think if
possible, scientists can try to look for some other alternatives before using the animal
as test subjects.
4.Why do some people refuse to eat animals?
There are many people who are vegetarians. They consume no animal products
whatsoever. In recent years, researches show that a meatless diet is healthier for
people, so more people are trying to eat less meat. Some others refuse to eat animals
for religious reasons. For example, in China, many people became Buddhists, and no
longer kill or eat animals.
5.Why would happen when some species disappear on earth?
The rate of species extinction is accelerating in recent years, which means that
the environment and ecological system have been severely damaged. Every species
plays an important role in the biologic chain when some species disappear on earth,
the chain will break, and other species in the chain may also face extinction.

PART 1: BIRTHDAY
1.How do children celebrate birthdays in your country?
Children are fond of parties and lovely gifts. Also they like celebrate it with
friends like getting together and have a great meal.
2.How did you celebrate your last birthday?
My last birthday was held in a restaurant. I invite my best friends, and We had
birthday cake, sang and danced together. My parents and my friends gave me some
lovely and beautiful presents.
3.What kinds of birthday gifts do you like to receive?
I'd like to receive some intellectual gifts, such as the electronic dictionary,
notebook computer and so on.
4.Is there a difference between the way you celebrated your birthday in the past
and the present?
Sure, I think there's a big difference. When I was a child, my parents always
prepared a birthday party for me, and we sang the birthday song and ate birthday cake
together. But now I seldom celebrate my birthday and sometimes I even forget it,
because I'm so busy, and I have no time to celebrate it.

PART 3: describe a place you have been to that was

polluted
1.What kinds of pollution are serious in your country?
Well, in my opinion, air and water pollutions are serious in my countries. With
the development of economy and technology, a lot of harmful gasses is discharged
from the factories, polluting both the air and the water. Besides, the abundant use of
chemical pesticides also makes the water seriously polluted.
2.What can individuals do to protect our environment?
Well, it is everyones civil responsibility to protect our environment, and there
are many things that individuals can do to protect it. Firstly, we can reuse the
resources after reclaiming and reprocessing.
Secondly, we should diminish the amount of garbage produced by ourselves.
Thirdly, we can recycle resources by passing through a series of changes or
treatments as to process, recover or make available for reuses through the natural
process of biochemical degradation or modification.
3.Do you think individuals should be responsible for pollutions?
Well, individuals should be partially responsible for pollution and do their part
to control what they can at their home, going to work or play, but the government has
a larger responsibility to remove more vehicles off of the roads and to control the
exhaust from power plants.
4.Why is there a need to involve government in environmental protection?
The need is very obvious. The citizens of our country have no control over
power plants, manufacturing businesses and the use of automobiles. These are the
largest contributors to air, water, and land pollution. Without the government's
intervention, there would be no environmental protection at all.

Part 2: Describe an old person you respect

You should say
Who he/she is
When you knew his/her
What you know about him/her
Why you respect him/her
The senior person whom I respect and like is my grandmother. From my
childhood, she has been a caring person for me. Still, she is a good friend of mine
whom I share many things. She is a benevolent and good person who possesses a
good heart. She tries to help others with her highest efforts.
I know her from my childhood as she lives with us and we have a lot of happy
memories together. She is a successful mother of 3 people including my father. She
has devoted all her life to her kids and made them educated. She possesses a nice and
charming personality that illuminate people around her.
I love and respect her for many different reasons. The most important reason is
that of her unconditional love and affection for me. She is a good mentor who can
show me positive ways and guide me in my depressed time. Talking to her is a
soothing experience and the story she always tells attractive and full of morality. I
have learned many positive attitudes and good thinking from her. For all those
reasons and a strong bonding between us, I respect and admire her very much.

PART 1: Public Transportation

1.Whats the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?
The bus is the most popular means of transportation in my hometown. But the
nearest bus station is half a mile away, and theres only one bus passing every twenty
minutes. Youll get frustrated if you miss a bus.
2.How often do you take buses?
I take a bus to work every day. I am a moron in driving, but taking a bus is
both cheap and convenient, and you dont have to drive yourself. However, when
stuck in traffic jams, you may feel anxious.
3.Can you compare the advantages of plane and trains?
Well for me, Id say, with trains, you can get up and move around during the
journey, and you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery along the trip. While an
advantage of taking the plane is that it can save time, and it allows you to reach any
place in the world.
4.Is driving to work popular in your country?
I dont think so. In Australia, traffic jams often happen in the rush hour,
especially on rainy days. So most people choose to go to work by subway since it has
the merit of convenience, shortcut, and vast capacity.
5.Do you think people will drive more in the future?
No. Because the government in Australia encourage people to drive less, so
more and more people choose to take public transportations. You know, the traffic
situation is overly bad during rush hours, and taking public transportations like
subway is both cheap and convenient.
6.Would you ride bikes to work in the future?
No, because my company is pretty close to me, its just a ten minutes walk. So
I dont really need a bike to get there.
7.What will become the most popular means of transportation in Australia?
I think that will be the subway. Well, I think subways will become the most
popular means of transport for urban development because of its efficiency,
punctuality, low pollution. And I believe that in the future, the subway system in my
city will be more complete.
8.Do you prefer public transportation or private transportation?

www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany

Tel: +61 478 764 364

I prefer public transportation. I used public transportation all the time to get to
& from work. The transportation in the big city is crap. So owning your car or taking
a taxi isnt such a good idea. You could be stuck in traffic forever plus the expenses
for gas and parking garages.

Part 2: Describe a leader who you admire (for example,

in sport, business or politics)
You should say:
Who this person is
What this person did (has done) that you admire
How you got to know this person
And explain why you admire this person
Well, the person that Id like to talk about is Donald Trump, who is an
American real estate developer, television personality, business author, and political
candidate. I first got to know this person when I watched an American reality show
called The Apprentice years ago. In this show, a group of competitors battled for a
high-level management job in one of Trumps commercial enterprises. Recently,
Donald Trump has been grabbing headlines again after he announced he was running
for president of the United States.
I simply admire Donald Trump because hes a TV icon and a household name.
Apart from that, his one-of-a-kind hairstyle has been hotly discussed and joked about
for a long time. So whether or not Trump can succeed in politics remains to be seen.
In the meantime, Ill continue to enjoy his reality show.

Part 2: Describe an app on your computer or phone

You should say:
What the app is
How long you have used it
What it is used for
And explain why you think it is useful
In recent years, people have become more and more attached to their smartphones, and an increasing number of apps are becoming an integral part of people
live. Personally, I would like to talk about Pokmon Go, a location-based reality
mobile game having gone viral in the last few weeks
Well, I first got to know this game when I was reading information from my
Facebook 3 weeks ago. My Facebook was filled with a lot photo of this game.
Having been told that Pokmon Go was currently unavailable at the app store in
Vietnam. I immediately called my close friend who is now living in the US to share
with me about her experiences of playing this game
As far as I can tell from what he said, it is a huge multiplayer online GPSdependent game app developed by Nintendo. It engages people to reach areas to find
Pokmon in the real world with the use of virtual reality (VR) and the camera of
compatible devices.
And now, Pokmon Go available to download in Vietnam, Im so excited. One
of the most important reasons why Pokmon Go become a monster hit is that you
never know where youre going to meet a new Pokmon. Also, playing Pokmon Go
isnt actually just playing a game. You have to walk a lot then you will quickly
realize that youre part of a global community that has a common goal and purpose
to catch them all. So these are the reasons that I could come up with to explain why
Pokmon Go is useful

Part 1: Flowers
1.Do you like flowers? (Why?)
Yes, I suppose so. I dont think we would care to live in a world without
flowers. Flowers make our world more valid and in my country, people often use
flowers to describe their emotion.
2.What flowers do you like? (Why?)
My favorite flower is lilac coz they have great fragrance. And they were the
first flowers I ever received.
3.Which/What is your favorite flower?

ladies. I was thrilled when receiving a bunch of lilies from my boyfriend on our
anniversary day.
4.Do you think flowers are important?

examples)
Yes, different flowers convey different feelings in Vietnam, they can be used
as presents to send to your friends, your sweetheart or your parents.
6.On what occasions are flowers important?
In Vietnam, flowers are important because they have special meanings. For
example, the rose represents a symbol of love, so boys usually send roses to girls
when proposing marriage. And, lilies symbolize one hundred years of love and
devotion, so they are used for decoration at the weddings
7.Do people in your country ever use flowers for special occasions?
Yes they do. For example, when people get married, relatives and friends
usually send the newly married couple bunches of lilies, which symbolize eternal
love, tie the knot.
8.In your country, do people (ever) give flowers as a gift?
Definitely yes. People usually send flowers during festivals, birthdays or
anniversaries. Coz it is a way to show politeness and courtesy.

Part1: Living place

1.Which room do you like best in your apartment?
My favorite room is the big living room, of course. Because I can invite my
best friends to there and sit on the comfortable sofa to watch a couple of movies.
Sometimes, we also can hole a big party there; it is a nice way for us to kid back and
relax. So I like the living room.
2.Who do you live with?
I live with my parents in a flat. And we also keep a dog as a pet.
3.Do you live in a flat or a house?
I live in a flat. My flat locates in the heart of my hometown so the transport
facilities there are convenient. Besides it is surrounded by two parks so it is
comfortable for us to live there. More specifically, my flat are made up of 4-bed
rooms and a bid living room.
4.Will you stay in that place for a very long time?
No, I like new things. So I like to move to new places. I never stay in a place
for a long time, because I feel bored and get tired of everything.
5.What kind of housing/accommodation do you live in?
I have a very small apartment in the central area of my hometown. Although it
is very small, it is convenient. All places including supermarkets, office and also bus
station are all within the walking distance.
6.How long have you lived there?
I have been living here about three years. As I said before, it is quite
convenient.
7.(If you answer you havent lived there long) Whats the difference
between where you are living now and where you have lived in the past?
The biggest difference is that I spend less time on daily commuting. As you
know, I lived in a suburb in the past, and it took me nearly 3 hours to go to work. But
now I live near my company, and I normally walk to the office and it just takes me 20
minutes every day.

8.Can you describe the place where you live?

Yeah, I live in a rented apartment with four housemates. Though my bedroom
is very tiny, I feel quite homey there, and my housemates are all very nice, so I am
satisfied with it.

Dining room. It is an ideal place for family reunion and family meal. We can
enjoy delicious foods and share thoughts with each other especially after an
exhausting day.
10.What do you usually do in your house/flat/room?
There are a lot of things I could do, to name just a few, reading my favorite
books and appreciating detective story movies.
11.Are the transport facilities to your home very good?
Yes, as I said, my apartment is in the city center and thus I could enjoy
convenient public transport. It only takes about ten minutes to go to the bus station on
foot.
12.Do you prefer living in a house or a flat?
I prefer living in a flat. Although I always envy those who own a big house in
the suburban areas. My flat is situated in the city center where provides easy access to
my workplace. However, people who live in the big house enjoy the more spacious
room and can do their gardening, you know, trimming the grass, taking care of
flowers and stuff like that.
13.Please describe the room you live in.
My bedroom is not that spacious. I think its only 20 square meters. But it is
well-furnished. First of all, I have a king-size bed, and I often lie there to read comics
and novel. It is very cozy. Next to my bed is a bookshelf where I put hundreds of
books there. Most of them used to belong to my parents, and I still buy book quite
often. You know, Im a book worm. Also, theres a large desk in front of the window.
My room is quite bright; its a nice place to relax.

It is said if you like bright colors, you must be an optimistic person, who

Part 2: Describe a situation that you got angry.

you should say:
where it happened
when it happened
who you were with and why you felt angry
Sample answer 1:
A recent situation that made me angry was getting stuck in a traffic jam on the
way to meet some friends. It was last Sunday lunchtime, and I didnt expect there to
be much traffic; people dont work on Sundays, so the roads arent usually very busy.
Everything was going well until suddenly I saw a queue of cars on the road in
front of me. I had no choice but to join the queue and wait to get past whatever was
causing the delay. It turned out that it resulted from some roadworks, and it took me
an extra 30 minutes to get past them.
Getting stuck in traffic congestion doesnt usually make me angry, but this
time, it did, mainly because I wasnt expecting it and I knew that my friends were
waiting to meet me for lunch. I felt frustrated and powerless because there was
nothing I could do to change the situation, and I had no idea how long I would be
sitting there waiting. When I finally saw the reason for the congestion, I was relieved
that I was close to getting past the roadworks, but I still felt a bit stressed knowing
that I was half an hour late.

Sample answer 2:
I do not usually get angry for small reasons and not one of the short-tempered
persons who get angry easily for silly reasons. I got furious with my friends, and I
was so furious that I did not talk to them for some days.
This occurred when I was in 7th semester in my university probably in the year
2010. I had a friend named Rumel, who invited Stephen and me to visit his
hometown after the term final. Three of us made our plan final and fixed the date for
our journey. Since we were not in the same university, we stayed at different paces of
the city. Three days before the scheduled date of our trip I called both of them from a
local phone booth to confirm if the plan is still valid or not. They both told me they
are looking forward to the visit and Rumel told me that he has already told his parents
and relatives about our visit.
I called my home that I would visit my friends hometown, and thats why my
visit to them would be a bit delayed. They wished me a safe and pleasant journey. I
got my bags packed the night before our trip and as planned we would meet at the
city station at 9.00 am. We planned to go there by train as we thought train journey
would be more enjoyable than the bus journey.
In the morning of the due date, I wake up early and checked if I have packed
all the right stuffs or not. Then I picked a taxi and went to the station at 7.30 am. I
looked for my friends and found they are yet to come. Rumel was supposed to buy
the train tickets and I could not find any one of them. I looked for them in every
places of the station and to my dismay they were nowhere to be found. In the mean
time I hear that the clock is ticking to announce that it is 10:00 am and I found 2/3
trains already departed. Initially I was annoyed and when it was 11.30 am I got
seriously frustrated and angry. I felt like a stupid and all of my angers started to grow
up. I was so upset that I did not call my friends. I sat at the station for another 30
minutes to pacify my anger and then took a taxi to return home.
They tried to call me to explain the reason they could not show up that morning
and almost after two weeks they came to my room and explained that due to
Stephens mothers sudden and unexpected illness, he had to leave for his hometown
that morning. They both thought that the other one had informed me about the
cancellation of our tour. I told them that we are even now, and I have no complaints
about what happened that day.

Part 2: Describe a person who has apologized to you

You should say:
Who this person is
When this happened
What this person said for apologizing
and explain how you feel about the apology is

Sample Answer
You know, when mentioned about this question, a person immediately came
into my mind, and hes my roommate in university, whose name is David. We are
best friends; I can even say that we share weal and woe just like brothers. But theres
one thing that I would never forget. That is he once played a trick on me and of
course he made an apology to me finally.
That has happened on April Fools Day. To be frank, I didnt realize that it was
April Fools Day at that time, so I had no defense. When David handed me a bag of
multicolored sandwich biscuits and said: hey! There are some here. I took one out
and bit into it without thinking. I swore that I would never forget that terrible taste. It
felt like some toothpaste! I felt sick and spat it out while David burst into laughing.
However, he at once apologized to me and explained that it was April Fools
Day, and he just wanted to make a joke. You know, we are good friends and had no
reason to stay angry with him, so I forgave him. Of course, I curiously asked him
what he had put into the biscuits; he told me that is toothpaste, toothpaste with all
kinds of colors. His words made both of us cant stop laughing.
I still remember this small joke now, because it always reminds me of the
freedom days in university and the cherish friendship between David and me.

Part 2: Describe a time you helped someone.

You should say:
Who you helped
How you helped him or her
Why you helped him or her
And explain why it was special to you.
Three years ago, I stayed in the library till late night to prepare for final exam.
While I was studying, I heard heavy rain sound. The rain seemed to be stronger, so I
packed my things up to back home. Before I left the library, I spotted a blind standing
in front of the library entrance. I found out that she didnt have an umbrella. I asked
her why are you standing here, and she said she is waiting till the rain is stopped. It
was already late night so there was no one who could give her a helping hand beside
me. Thus, I asked her address on the purpose of seeing her home. I shared my
umbrella with her by her destination. Although It was about half an hour far from the
library by walking and my all clothes and shoes got wet through, I felt good when she
said thanks with her beautiful smile. Meanwhile, however, I feel a bit
uncomfortable about it as she might not be happy with my kind if she thought that I
pity her. At the time I helped her, I should have considered and been careful about
her feeling more. I thought to give a hand to others is not that easy on the way home.

Part 3: Photos
Do Vietnamese people like to take photos of themselves?
Yes, they do. With the popularity of phones, many Vietnamese people like to
use their mobile phone camera to take photos of themselves. It has become the most
prevalent way to show peoples personality. For example, some college students take
creative photos of themselves to mark their graduation and put these photos online,
which has attracted a lot of attention.
What kind of devices do people like to use for taking photos these days?
Most people prefer using mobile phones to take photos. Some people no longer
use their digital cameras to take photos as they did before, because they find that
mobile phones have more advantages when taking photos. For example, its easy to
use. You can delete the photo and take another one if you feel dissatisfied. Whats
more, after you take a photo, you can share it on social platforms at once.
Why do some people like to delete photos?
One likely reason is that maybe people feel dissatisfied with these photos, so
they choose to delete them and take new ones. There may be other reasons. For
instance, previous research has shown that some people lack the sense of security, so
they like deleting photos or removing their personal information.
Why do some people like to keep photos?
People usually keep photos as souvenirs. For example, some people work far
from home, so they keep a family photo with them. When they are homesick and
miss their families, the photo may bring them comfort.
Has the way people take photos changed?
The last decade has seen a great change about the way people take photos. In
the past, camera was the only device for taking photos. At that time, people seldom
take photos except for taking family photos. While nowadays people around the
world use mobile phones as their primary method of taking pictures, and they usually
take photos of themselves.

Part 3: Describe a character or personality of yours

1.What kinds of characters are popular in the modern society?
Impatience is the most obvious trait in the fast-paced contemporary society. It
is a pity that the corporal punishments of children for misbehaviors become harsher
and much more commonplace. This immediate response to violence to indiscipline
risks leaving behind a shadow of a childhood which may lead to misanthropy. Whats
more, the crazy tempo of life also gives rise to a large number of workaholics who
grab sandwiches and rush through lunches and have set aside no time for family
bonding. If left unfettered, these two situations will become worse.
2.What qualities should a good teacher have?
.As pillars of the education system, teachers are commissioned with the vital
task of providing education to youngsters. Qualified teachers should have a good
personality and an appropriate teaching method. A good teachers proper behaviors,
attitudes, and comments on social issues will absolutely set examples for students
who accordingly can develop their correct philosophy of life and build up
indispensable quality, such as teamwork, tolerance, and perseverance. Regarding
teaching approach, teachers should tap students potential and motivate them to learn
more efficiently and effectively because the nature of education is about inspiring
instead of cramming.
3.Do you think parents
development?

characters can affect young peoples

Parents play a significant role in childrens character building because

juveniles will imitate adults consciously and subconsciously. This can be proven by
the fact that many criminals suffer domestic violence in childhood and their growth
when they encounter difficulties and frustrations, they have no other way but resort to
force. By contrast, if parents are loving and caring, kids will follow examples, and
when their peers take away their toys or, when they grow up, their jobs, they will try
to understand, forgive or have a talk with the one they may not like.
4.Would you like to develop a specific personality in the future?
In the future, I want to be more of a team player. In the past years of education,
I was taught to be the number one in every field, be it sports ability or academic
scores. To stand out from the peers means scholarships and a better career prospect.
In spite of the potentials brought into full play, I might become a little bit too
aggressive to cooperate with others to achieve the same goal. If competitiveness goes

Part 3: Describe a program or app in your computer or

phones
1.What kinds of APP do you have on your phone?
Facebook, UC Browser, MapsWell, I am very much dependent on the
apps that I have on my phone. And recently, CNN has become my most used app,
besides my social media related apps.
2.What are the drawbacks of having too many apps on your phone?
Well, people usually download a lot of apps, but they abandon most of these
apps, because they keep using the same apps. Take myself as an example, I have 150
apps installed on my phone, but I only use about 10 on a daily basis. So the other
apps are just a white elephant to me and occupy the memory of my phone too much
3.How much time do you spend on these APPs?
This is really difficult to measure. Maybe about 2-3 hours every day. Every
morning on my way to work, I read an article on the guardian, or any newspaper that
has an Open Graph app. After work, I like listening to music on Spotify for about one
hour, which is a digital music service that gives you instant access to millions of
songs, from old favorites to the latest hits. Besides, I often use Google Maps on my
mobile phone, and with this app, Ill never be lost in any part of the city
4.Do you like to look for new APPs or just keep using the old ones?
Yes, I do. I like new things, so once I find a more usable app, I will soon cast
aside the old one. As we all know that, in a highly competitive market, the updating
speed of apps becomes faster. So the old apps are commonly be replaced by new
ones. However, some old apps are really user-friendly and there are no alternatives to
them. So in this case, I just keep using the old one, until I find a better one.
5.Do you use free APPs or the ones that you need to pay for?
Free apps, of course. I dont pay for apps unless they really have to, and I will
only download an app if its free. For some reason, I may readily buy a drink for $5,
but might feel like a terrible spender for buying a $2 app. Because I just think I have
not so much need of it. I mean, theres no significant differences exist between free
apps and paid apps. You can always find alternatives to paid apps, and with these free
apps, I can also do the same thing.

Part1: Museum/gallery
1. Are there many museums in your hometown?
Yes, there are various kinds of museums in Vietnam, such as the museums of
modern art, museums of science and industry, and museums of nature.
2. Do you think museums are useful for visitors to your hometown?
Sure, I believe museums are a great educational tool. Both adults and kids can
gain an understanding of history and culture there.
3. Do you often visit a museum?
Actually, I seldom visit museums coz there is only an art museum in my
hometown and I am weak in understanding the deeply meaning of the work of art.
4. Did you go to any museums when you were a child?
Yes, when I was a child, my Dad took me to the nature museum in my
hometown. I was very interested in dinosaurs, and I enjoyed the dinosaur models as
well as the fossils of dinosaurs. And before we went home, my Dad also bought me
some souvenir and books.
5. Do you think museums are important?
Sure. Museums are pretty important. Adults and kids can get a chance to
acquire new knowledge in different aspects. Also, hands-on exhibits and models
showing in the museums can surely bring science and arts alive for them.
6. Do you think it's suitable for museums to sell things to visitors?
Well, I should say it would be a good idea for the museums to sell things
related to the exhibitions to visitors. Visitors can keep them as souvenirs or send them
as gifts to friends. For those non-profit museums, they would have a larger budget to
improve their conditions and services if they can increase their income by selling
things to visitors. However, there are some museums selling some products at a high
price to visitors. I would think its not suitable because museums are mainly for the
public interest.
7. When was the last time you visited a museum?
Actually, I treat different kinds of museums as a place for hanging out with my
friends, so last Sunday we went to the science museum together. We joined the

workshops to learn the practical science around us and also get to know more about
the latest science and technology.

Part 2: Describe a reunion dinner you organized.

you should say:
when and where this happened
who was there at that time
what you ate in this dinner and explain how you felt about this dinner
I put a great deal of efforts into organizing a high schoolmate reunion dinner
two years ago. I anticipated a lot, but it ended up not worth all my efforts at all.
I used to believed that high school friendship is one of the greatest that can
stand the test of time, that although we are scattered to all parts of the country to seek
higher education but deep down, we are all bonded together tightly by where we
came from and what we once went through side by side. But I was terribly wrong.
Not until one day not far from the winter vacation when I entered the fourth
year of my college life, did I feel the gradually dying bonding need some immediate
redemption. Thanks to the mighty social network, I succeed in getting in touch with
all the old classmates, 38 ones, and 26 of them accepted my invitation about the
reunion dinner. A lot of preparations ensued and I was really looking forwards
The dinner was set in a local restaurant, neat and economical. As you know, we
still lived on our parents by then, so everyone chipped in to pay the bill. The dinner
started well, as we sit by two big dinner tables in a VIP room chitchatting just like old
friends who long lost touch with each other.
But when the How are you going formalities were exhausted, the warm and
jubilant atmosphere began to be replaced by the 80% awkwardness of strangeness
and 20% noise of eating, or maybe there was some bit of gossip whisper. I tried wine
and old great school antidotes to turn around the situation. I tried jokes, good ones
and bad ones, but all to no avail. Someone focused on eating, some busy with screen
scrolling their phones, and some just whispering to their neighbors. The erstwhile
affinity and warmness was gone because of the contact-losing gap years.
When the dinner was over and I call for a group photo, and some staved off the
idea insisting on going home, I knew the planned following activities were waste of
time and money, and I said to myself OK. Thats it. All the vibes and reminiscence
I hoped to restore ended up just like the empty and messy room: laughable.

Part 3: Describe a course you want to learn

1. Should schools teach both arts and science?
Yes, I think so. Some people may think that science and art are completely
opposite of each other. But I think these two subjects are linked. They are two aspects
of our need to explore and appreciate our universe. Science is a complex toolbox for
investigating our world. It relies on objectivity and rigor. Art allows us to explore
how we perceive our world and what meaning it brings to our lives. So no one should
be neglected and school should teach both subjects.
2. What kinds of courses are useful for university students?
For college and university students, financial management, in my opinion,
should be taught. It is revealed that people with basic knowledge of well-managed
share portfolios have done better than individuals who blindly buy stocks and shares
privately. Just as Benjamin accumulated much of his wealth through real estate
investment, graduates want to live not just a little bit above the breadline; they should
have other sources of income apart from the job. Apart from that, skills about
interpersonal communication should also be imparted to the youngsters, so that they
can better understand others and express their voice more effectively.
3. Why do some students dislike studying at school?
Several factors can account for the worrying phenomenon of students'
weariness of study. Rote learning might be the biggest culprit. Teachers in a spoonfeeding classroom simply dictate information and answers and students are forced to
recite what they have learned through various exercises and tests. More importantly,
peer pressure, the tool promoted by many immature teachers to encourage academic
efforts, has made students distant or isolated from each other. Those who suffer
relatively low scores will be looked down upon while those who outperform in every
examination will also be jealousy of.
4. What school activities are good for schoolchildren?
It can be anything from organizing a big party to creating a new club. The
point is to go through the experience of doing something from start to fruition, to
struggle and follow through, to acquire skills and confidence, and to get hooked on
that feeling of knowing you did something really cool with your friends.

Part 1: Painting
1.Do you like painting or drawing?
2.How often do you visit art galleries?
3.What kinds of things do you like to draw?
4.Is it easy to learn how to draw?

1. Yes, I do. I think its interesting, but I dont know how to draw well. When I
was a child, I would always draw something by myself, but I have never received
professional training. If I have the opportunity, I want to learn some painting skills.
2. I go to the art gallery nearly every week. I prefer visiting the art gallery
because Im crazy about art. I like abstract paintings best, so I will never miss any
exhibition of abstract art held in the art gallery, and I will always find inspiration
from it and create my art work.
3. I like painting very much, as I am an animated film buff, I always draw my
favorite cartoon figures in my leisure time.
4. In my opinion, the ability of painting depends mainly on talents. For me, I
am naturally good at painting. When I was a child, I could draw without teachers
guidance. But for some other people, drawing is really a big headache, and theyll
find it really difficult to master this skill.

Describe an old thing that your family has kept for a

long time.
You should say
what the object is
where it came from
how long it has been in your family

Sample answer:
I bought an exquisite Murano glass figurine of Pegasus when I traveled to
Venice.

It is about twelve inches high, massive and gorgeously-wrought sculpted glass

with real gold spun through the wings, mane, and tail. I fell in love with it when I saw
it at the glass factory. It was said to be 50 years old and thus hideously expensive, but
I rationalized that it would be my one souvenir from that first European trip. So I put
it on my credit card and had it shipped to China.

My precious artwork arrived a few weeks after I returned home. I unwrapped it

and placed it carefully on a bookshelf in my new apartment. I stood and admired it,
then went to open the blinds so the sun could hit it, miscalculated my reach and
knocked Pegasus right onto my newly waxed hardwood floor.

Of course, it broke, but not completely. That was the worst part. Both wings
broke off, and one front leg was shattered. But my mother thought it might be
salvageable. She found a glass artist in Shanghai who did his best to repair it. And he
did a fair job. But I could never see it the same way again. When I looked at it, I only
saw how lovely it had been before my clumsiness ruined it. It hurt to have broken
Pegasus in my living room. So I packed it away.

I still have it. Five years later. I have never re-opened the box, but I cant bring
myself to throw it away.

Describe a short journey that you disliked.

you should say:
where you went
who you went with
what you did and explain why you disliked this journey

Sample answer:
I like visiting famous places, and whenever I get a vacation, I try to visit new
places or places that I have heard about. One such trip that I took with one of my
friends was a journey to Holland. I would like to talk about this tour to Holland that
we took two years age.

Both of us (me and my friend) wanted to visit Holland and specifically

Amsterdam, Hague, and Rotterdam very much because we saw pictures and heard
stories from friends about how beautiful and wonderful the place is. So finally we
applied for a visa, bought plane tickets, booked a hotel, packed our bags, and our trip
began.

We spent a lot of time before our holiday, researching of all the interesting
places to visit and all the sights to see. So we went to Rijks museum, Van Gogh
museum, Amstel Beer Museum, took a romantic sunset cruise in the water channels,
drove to Volendam, a small prettiest fisherman village, visited a cheese farm. We
went to Rotterdam, which is the architecture city of Holland that stimulates
innovation.

But the journey was a bit terrible, because the third day we arrived at Holland,
my friend lost his wallet. We need to be extremely calculating on expenditure since
we still got a lot of places to visit. Both my friend and I learned a lesson from this
journey

Describe a way you keep fit or healthy

You should say
what this is
How often you do this
who you often do this with
and explain why you think this is good.

Sample answer:
Im going to describe a way that I do to keep fit, currently, which is swimming.
I used to swim a lot when I was younger, but Ive recently taken it up again, and I go
a couple of times a week now.

I go swimming in a gym that I joined, which has a nice swimming pool. I tried
going to my local public pool, but it was too busy, and you couldnt swim up and
down there. So, I found a gym that has a pool, and its usually quite empty, and I can
have a lane to myself and swim up and down.

As I said, I do this hobby or activity alone. I dont go there with anyone; its a
solitary sport really and Im doing it for my health reasons. Obviously, of course,
there are other people in the pool when Im there; sometimes you have to share a lane
with another person or a couple of people. But Im in there, focused, on my own,
concentrating on my swimming stroke and technique and trying to improve my
endurance and stamina as well.

And the reason I think this is a healthy sport... well, I think its widely accepted
that swimming is healthy. Its a good all-over body workout; its great cardiovascular
exercise; its a low-impact sport. So youre not expected to get any injuries as you
might do if you were running, where theres impact on the joints with swimming you
dont have that. So I think its really good for the body, but its also good for the
mind. When I get into the swimming pool, as soon as I hit the water it clears my
mind, Im focused only on one thing, which is my stroke, my technique, the
breathing-it makes you think about your breathing as well, which is good. And I

believe that it rejuvenates and reinvigorates you to be in the water. Its a relaxing
experience.

Part 1: Walking
1. Do you like to walk?
2. Do you like to walk on your own or with others?
3. Would you say that your city is a good place for walking?

1. Yes, I do. I'm not one for going on long walks in the countryside, but I don't
mind walking when I'm in a town or city, for example when I'm sightseeing in a new
place.
2. For me, I prefer walking alone. Sometimes I walk around the campus or
walking along the beach. I think walking alone helps me relax my mind, and I also
practice meditation through walking.
3. No, I guess it's hard to find some good places for walking in this city.
Because as you can see, due to the environmental pollution, the air quality is so bad,
and it's unfit to do any outdoor exercise. Moreover, there is too much noise on the
street, so your mind will be distracted by loud noise through walking.

Describe a person you admire.

You should say:
1.who the person is
2.what he or she is like
3.why you admire him or her.

I'm going to talk about my father because he has been a major influence in my
life.
My dad was always a good role model for me as I was growing up. He's hardworking, patient and understanding; he's also got a good sense of humor and seems to
get on well with everybody. Hopefully, I've inherited some of these traits.
I admire my father because I think he brought me and my brothers/sisters up
well; he was quite strict but always fair, and he has always been someone I can turn
to for advice. I think my father set a good example by working hard and having a
positive outlook on life. I remember that he used to leave for work early and come
home quite late, but he always made time for me and my brothers/sisters.

Describe a family member that you are mostly close to

You should say:
Who the family member is
How you know about this person
What kind of person he/she is
And explain why are close to him/her

I have got six family members, and all of them are very dear and close to me. If
I need to pick one family member among them to talk about, that would be my father.
My fathers name is XXX, and he is around 50 years old. He is the kind of
person I would want my offspring to be. He did his graduation in a time when formal
education was not peoples first choice. They would rather start earning from work
rather than going to school. My father fought to ensure his education with the people
who thought working or doing some business has more value than education. But my
dad believed that education is the most important part of a mans life. He heartily

www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany

Tel: +61 478 764 364

held the idea that education shapes a mans life and is the kind of power and asset
that would always accompany him.
I have lots of memories of my father, and I see him every day. Thats why Im
close to him. There exists a strong bonding between us that only two of us feel. I still
remember those days of my childhood when I used to wait in the evening for my
father to return from office. He would then play with me and help on completing my
lessons. I vividly remember him sometimes taking me to the market and buy me gifts.
When I was an infant, he moved to the city from the village to ensure me better
schooling and environment. That was a decision that has changed my life path. He
helped me finishing my home works and lessons, always allured me of gifts if I could
complete my study. Besides my education, he taught me lots of moral values and
important things of life.
He used to work in a Government organization and for his hard-working and
kindness; he is revered by all of our relatives, his friends and neighbors.
He believes in humanity, good behavior, our creator, and leads a life that can
be exemplary. He still does most of his works and helps my mom on her house hold
works. After retirement, he has picked two new habits: gardening and teaching
neighbors kids. He is a quiet and intelligent man who has benevolent heart and that
what make him so admirable to me. He is still the pillar of our family, and all of our
family members love and respect him very much.

Part 1: Computer
Do you use computers very much?
Yes, I almost use my computer every day since I need it for study, onlinechatting, and for reading.

Have computers changed your life anyway?

I think computers have significantly changed my life since it allows me to take
online-courses and online-shopping also brings us much convenience.

Do you think computers are useful in everyday life?

Sure. Computers bring us a lot of benefits. In contemporary society, people
depend largely on computers to work and study. Computers are so useful that people
almost cant live without them.

Do you think there are any disadvantages to using computers?

Yes. Some children may get harmful information online, and many people
have become addicted to computer games. The computer radiation also has a
detrimental effect on peoples health.
Computers are now used a lot in education. What do you think of this?
Undoubtedly, computers can become wonderful study tools for children if used
properly. By using computers, children may learn faster, become more creative and
absorb a variety of knowledge.

Describe a leader who you admire

You should say:
Who the person is
What this person did (has done) that you admire
How you know this person or know about this person
And explain how this leaders qualities impressed you
Part 3
In your culture, what kind of people can be a leader?
Has there been a change in the characteristics that leaders should have?
Many women are earning more money now, does it mean that they can be
leaders now?

The person whom I admired the first time is my mother. But, if we talk about
the famous leader, I can say that he is Mahatma Gandhi. He was from India. He is
known as the Father of nation in India as he played a very important role in gaining
the freedom of India.
Mahatma Gandhi gave the Indian People not only freedom but also the new
thoughts on non-violence and sustainable living. There are some qualities about him
like trust, non-violence, legacy, etc. These qualities are the ones that inspired me. He
said that If my faith burns bright as I hope it will even if I start alone, I shall be alive
in the grave and what is more speaking of it.
Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in the small town named
Porbander.
Gandhi was a lawyer, and he became the leader of the Indian National
Congress. The main things that admire me about him are that he was a great follower
of non-violence. The other thing, which inspired me, is his punctuality. He was very
prompt in his life as he believes that punctuality is very important in the life. I think
we all should be punctual in the life.

Describe a dinner that you had with your friends

You should say:
When and where you had the dinner
Who you ate the dinner with
What you ate
And explain how you felt with this dinner

Ok then, well Im actually quite lucky in the fact that Ive been invited to quite
a number of special meals, and the one Ive decided to talk to you about was a
farewell dinner for a good friend of mine, because he was about to go off to Canada
for a few years to start university there, so he invited a few of his close friends for a
farewell dinner before heading off.

And one of the reasons Ive chosen to talk about this meal instead of some of
the others Ive been to is simply that its still quite fresh in my memory. You know, it
was only about a couple of weeks ago when it happened. And as for where we had
the meal, well I cant remember the exact name of the place, but it was quite a posh
restaurant somewhere in the center of the city, and judging from how beautiful it
looked when I walked in, it seemed to be a pretty expensive place to dine. So I was
relieved that it wouldnt be me footing the bill! And we also had our separate room,
which was nice, and probably just as well, seeing as we made quite a bit of noise
during the meal, what with all the laughing and stuff going on.

Anyway regarding what we ate, well I couldnt tell you every single dish that
we had because there was just so much, you know, the whole table was covered with
food. I mean, there was a crab, chicken, duck, what else, umoh yeah, shrimps,
and, uh..oh and a whole load of different vegetables. So by the end of it, I was
stuffed. You know, we all ate masses, because the food was so good, and it would
have been a bit of a pity to see it go to waste!

But anyway, finally then, concerning how I felt about the meal, well to put it
simply, I enjoyed it. Because as well as the food, which was fantastic, I enjoyed

everyones company. You know, it was great being together with so many good
friends, many of which I hadnt seen in quite a while.

So yeah, all in all, it was a special evening, and Im extremely grateful to have
been invited, and also very grateful to my friend for his generosity, as the bill must
have come to quite a lot, Im sure!

Part 1: Mobile phone

1. How often do you use your mobile phone?
Well, obviously I use my mobile phone on a daily basis. I always use it to get
in touch with my family and friends. Besides, I play games on my mobile phone
when I have nothing to do at home in the day time.

2. Can you describe your mobile phone?

Currently, Im using iPhone 6s. Though it was quite expensive, it came with
lots of exciting features and apps. The screen response is perfect, and the thumb print
works 100% of the time and is convenient to get into the phone. Besides, the camera
is awesome too and does not have the delay so I can always capture the stunning
moment.

3. What was your first mobile phone?

My first mobile phone was the Nokia bar phone in 2004. It was quite
expensive then because I was a university student and didnt have much money. I got
a part-time job to earn the money and bought it in a shopping mall. Fortunately, the
mobile phone turned out to be well worth what I had done then.

4. Would you buy a new one in the future?

Yes, my iPhone 5s is relatively outdated, so I just want to update to the latest
iPhone 6s in the near future. It has a larger screen so I believe it would be much more
comfortable to read the news or type text messages to my friends on it.

5. How has your mobile phone changed your life?

Oh, the mobile phone has changed my life dramatically. Probably the most
interesting change is that the mobile phone has freed me from the constraints of
space. For example, it is no longer necessary to meet my friends to apologize if Im
late to a meeting. I just make a telephone call. I think my life is fully mobile.
