Rates, roads, public transport, protecting the environment, making sure we have a strong
influence on the big decision makers in Auckland.
All these depend on how active, determined and committed the Devonport-Takapuna Board is.

You can rely on

TEAM GEORGE WOOD

to give urgent attention to the areas identified under its

12 POINT PLAN

DEMOCRACY IN PRACTICE

All who live in the area can be assured of being

kept informed of issues dealt with by the DevonportTakapuna Board. The views and problems people
have with any Board decisions will be carefully
considered.

FAIR SHARE

Pressure will be brought on Auckland Council to

guarantee that our area will receive a much fairer
share of rates funds.

UNITARY PLANS EFFECTS

The Board must play a decisive role and respond

to community concerns and interests in how the
Unitary Plan is implemented.

CRISIS ON OUR ROADS

Urgent action is needed to get traffic moving better

on Lake Road with special attention to the area
from Belmont to Esmonde Road.Another problem
to be dealt with is that residential development
above Milford Mall will increase traffic along
Kitchener Road and surrounding roads.

TAKAPUNA CENTRE

There must be stringent monitoring and changes

made, where necessary, to the planning by Panuku
Development Auckland for the existing Central
Car Park in Anzac Street and the Gasometer site.
We will work in a positive way with all parties to
achieve more off-street parking, open space and
the continuation of the Takapuna Sunday Market.

TAKAPUNA BEACH
HOLIDAY PARK

This historic and popular icon will be retained

to 100% of its original footprint including the
600m2 but will be upgraded and rejuvenated.

ROADS AND FOOTPATHS

The back streets and

footpaths in the DevonportTakapuna area are not
being cared for and
maintained as well as they
should be.That must be
put right.

WAIRAU CREEK

This is the biggest stormwater catchment drain on the

North Shore. There must be better and more effective control
of the outflow into the Milford estuary and nearby beach to
preserve our quality coastal environment.

SECOND HARBOUR CROSSING

This is a high priority issue for all who live on the North Shore. Whether
it should be a bridge or a tunnel to provide for both road and rail are
matters of vital concern to communities in the area. Under the leadership
of George Wood, the Board will keep both the Government and Auckland
Council alert to the urgency of the second harbour crossing.

OVERHEAD LINES

Ugly and potentially dangerous, overhead power

and phone lines have to go.Team George Wood
has a realistic and staged plan to put these lines
and cables underground.

OUR FERRY CONNECTIONS

Negotiations and serious consideration must be

given to improving ferry services to Devonport
and Bayswater in off-peak and evening periods
and during weekends.

PARKS AND RESERVES

The area has fallen behind other local boards areas in failing to protect
our green, open spaces. More needs to be done also in maintaining
existing parks and reserves. One major issue that must be dealt with
is the restoration of the Takapuna to Milford coastal walkway. Dacre,
Sunnynook and Becroft parks are vital to our community and greater
allocation of the budget must go to these parks.
