Powerful architectural integration thanks to IDS

IDS technology provides structural engineers with a platform for
cooperating with architects. This is guaranteed through the
compatibility with ideCAD Architectural. Those involved in the
project can concentrate on their planning and calculation work; all
information is stored in a joint data model. The joint data model for
both architectural and static work caters for automatic updating by
each member of the individual respective teams. The joint user
interface and joint data model prevent time and data losses.
With IDS you do not design a virtual model of your building you design the building itself.
ideCAD Structural and ideCAD Architectural use the same static
components. Object properties such as length, width and height are
used jointly. The use of real components such as walls, columns,
beams, foundations, stairways and ceilings etc. in conjunction with
corresponding specific parameters allow for the continual
bidirectional modification of your building by architects and civil
engineers using a single file without wasting any time. Already
working with real components in the architect's planning phase
avoids errors and accelerates the design process which is carried
out in advance of static calculations.
The integrated visualization technique in ideCAD Structural not
only allows for the creation of renderings and animations, but also
smooth and simple project planning. Static calculation and
reinforced-concrete measurements are carried out on the basis of
the three-dimensional calculation model. Furthermore, real-time
3D representation allows for visual control. Compatibility with
IFC (Industry Foundation Classes), DXF and DWG creates a basis
for working effectively and smoothly, and for the exchange of data
with other CAD programs.

Save time and resources with intelligent components

ideCAD Structural is a component-oriented CAD program. You get
to work with real components, for instance, ceilings, beams,
columns, foundations etc. Objects with parametrisable properties
adapt to modifications in your design without problem. All
components "know" their structural properties. In just one step,
editable object properties such as length, width and height simplify
static and dynamic analysis and design of reinforced concrete
components.
Intelligent objects and their being linked to one another allow the
objects to react automatically to modifications in the project. If, for
instance, the dimensions of a column are modified, all associated
beams are adapted to the modifications automatically.. In the case
of last minute modifications, short-term changes can also be made
to the project quickly and easily. Meaning your are not forced to
start anew.

Calculate Live
You can walk through your design in real-time ensuring a quick
and methodical form of approach. ideCAD Structural's userdefinable interface allows you do adapt it to your working habits
making your job so much more relaxing and efficient. During the
design stage you can check even the smallest of details on a 1:1

basis without having to worry about mistakes creeping into your

work.
It is not only possible to work in plan, view or perspective mode in
ideCAD Structural. You can also position a section at any point
and work in this. Any modification made in the section effects an
automatic update in all other windows - and vice-versa.

The fourth dimension in building analysis

Intelligent 3d Frame structure
The analysis of the spatial frame structure takes place according to
the FE method. ideCAD Structural generates automatically the FE
model using three-dimensional components such as slabs, beams
or columns. Construction components can be positioned per
mouse-click. When the building model is transferred from ideCAD
Architectural, the construction components are already defined.
After the data model has been transferred to the ideCAD
structural , reinforced-concrete design of columns, beams and slabs
can be carried out, cross-section proposals optimized, and reliable
and economical cross-sections specified.
Automatic load transmission
In ideCAD Structural, vertical and horizontal loads and line, point
and area loads are analyzed automatically using the geometry of
the building model. The slab loads calculated with the help of the
FE method are transmitted to the beams automatically. Wall loads
which have an effect on beams are determined taking door and
window openings into consideration. The self loads of the beams
are determined on the basis of their geometry. Loads can also be

defined independent of the geometry. Slab openings and

concentrated loads are included in the analysis of slabs. Wind
forces and subgrade reactions are taken into consideration in the
superimposition of load cases. Analysis and design results can be
determined and printed out for all load case combinations.
The static and dynamic analysis of 3D frame structures
The 3D frame structure consisting of components such as columns,
beams and panels is analysed statically and also dynamically, if
required. Round, curved or polygonal beams are easy to create in
the floor plan. Cross-sections of reinforced-concrete columns can
be defined in rectangular, round or polygonal form. Furthermore,
oscillations can be animated.
Design of slabs
The static analysis of slabs is carried out with the help of the Finite
Elements Method (FEM). The support conditions or boundary
conditions are identified automatically using beams. analyses
results are measured according to DIN 1045, DIN 1045-1 or EC2
for the assessment of reinforced concrete cross-sections. Static
calculations of throughed suspended floors, ribbed floors and
coffered ceilings, point-formed supported slabs and joist-free
ceilings are carried out with the help of the FE method. Slabs are
calculated for elastic bedding.
Design of foundations
Loads from columns are transferred automatically to the
foundations. Single foundations are designed for double-axis
bending with axial force for all load case combinations. Strip
foundations are modeled as beams with elastic bedding. Subgrade
reactions, bending moments and loads from the columns are
determined automatically. The results returned from the analyses
are taken into consideration during the design of reinforcedconcrete cross-sections.

STB & Reinforcement Structural analysis and reinforced concrete

design
Structural slabs
The calculation of reinforced-concrete slabs comprises throughed
suspended floors, ribbed floors and coffered ceilings, point-formed
supported ceilings and flat ceilings. Calculation results are
displayed in the automatically generated reinforcement windows.
The diameter of and distance between reinforcement rods are
determined automatically. While reinforcement is being
determined, processes relating to the bending moment line can be
analyzed and used to optimize the reinforcement proposal.
Subsequent dimensional changes specific to the reinforcement
proposal can be easily made. Changes such as number, diameter,
spacing etc. can be made manually.
Continuous beams
Section sizes for all load case combinations can be determined.
Transverse and flexural reinforcement is calculated. The
calculation is carried out according to the minimum requirements
laid down by DIN 1045, DIN 1045-1 or EC2. User-defined entries
for the reinforcement proposal to be made such as rod diameter or
concrete covering can be carried out manually. The reinforcement
proposal can be modified, optimized and printed out as a
reinforcement design sketch if required. The cross-section
assessment is carried out for stresses relating to shear force, torsion
and bending.
The calculation and assessment of suspender beams, bearers, ribs
and crosswise bearers in a system are carried out according to the
same technique. Rod diameter, number of reinforcements and
anchoring length are taken into consideration during the automatic
generation of reinforcement plans.

Columns
Assessing reinforced-concrete columnss for double-axis bending
with axial force. The section sizes are determined from the results
of the analysis of the load case combinations. In the case of
reinforced-concrete columns with a rectangular, round and
polygonal cross-section, four reinforcement configuration
possibilities are available in the cross-section. The buckling lengths
are taken into consideration during the calculation and assessment
of the cross-sections. Proof of safety can be illustrated for all load
case combinations using diagrams in graphical form. Diameter,
number, reinforcement design and configuration and anchoring
lengths are taken into consideration during the generation of the
reinforcement proposal and plans. The results of different crosssections can be printed out for all load case combinations selected
for assessment.
Strip, single and slab foundations
As with elastically bedded beams and slab foundations, strip
foundations are calculated in the same way as elastically bedded
slabs, with or without strips.
Single foundations are also calculated. The cross-sections for
single and strip foundations can be in the form of a rectangle or
trapeze. Foundations are calculated taking the bearing influences
of the supports into consideration and section sizes determined.
Subgrade reactions that occur under the foundations are set using
the most unfavorable loads as accepted. Earthquakes, horizontal
areas of impact, wind and subgrade reactions are taken into
consideration when calculating foundations. The diameter and
number of reinforcement rods are given automatically during the
generation of the reinforcement proposal and plans.
