Build a Membrane

Using play-dough, you and your table-mates will work

together to build a model of the cellular membrane. You
must include the following in your model: Phospholipids
(polar heads and non-polar tails), Receptor Proteins,
Transport Proteins, Enzymes, Cholesterol, and Cell
Surface Markers (carbohydrate portion and protein
portion).

Structure Component

Key
Color

Phospholipids
Transport Proteins
Enzymes
Receptor Proteins
Cholesterol
Carbohydrate (portion of
cell surface markers)
Follow up:
1. What are the 4 functions of cell membrane proteins?

2. How do the functions of the cell membrane relate to

homeostasis?

4. What would happen if the cell membrane were fully permeable to
all substances in the cells environment?

5. What would happen if the cell were exposed to a drug that

disabled the transport proteins in the cell membrane?
