Controls positions:
-

All GRAPHIC EQUALIZER faders at center position.

BALANCE knob at center position.
INPUT and MASTER faders at minimum position.
CROSSFADER at center position.
PFL and MONO switches at OFF position.
INPUT SELECT switches at LINE position.
PFL-SPLIT switcher at PFL position.

Plug to mains and check correct voltage at voltage regulators' output +15 V (7815) y -15 V
(7915).
LINE INPUTS
Inject a 2KHz/-10 dB signal at LINE input of INPUT.
Place the corresponding fader at its maximum position.
Make sure there is a -10 dB 1 dB level at REC 1 output and check its linearity throughout the
whole frequency range (20Hz/2kHz/20KHz).
Cut one of the input channel (R or L) and check there is no signal at the respective output.
Adjust the V.U. METER; .set this input's PFL switcher to ON and adjust the 100 K resistors so
that the (green) LEDs show up 0 dB (this is independent from the FADER's position).
Verify the PFL-SPLIT switcher. Functions of this switcher:
PFL Position; the V.U. METER reads the inputs which have their PFL switchers at the ON
position.
SPLIT Position; the right V.U. METER reads the sum of both PFL channels (this does not
increase the reading by 6 dB; it keeps at 0 dB as it was reading just one channel).The left
V.U. METER reads the sum of both channels after the tones section.
Leave this switcher at the PFL position.
Repeat these procedures in the other LINE inputs and remember that sensitivity of INPUT 3 and
4 is 0 dB. Verify that, for each input whose corresponding switcher is at the ON position, the
LED bars show up 0 dB.

MIC AND MIC ATT INPUTS

Now inject a 2KHz/-50 dB signal at the MIC 1 input
Place the input select switcher at the MIC position.
Place the corresponding fader at its maximum position.
Check there is a -10 dB 1 dB signal at the REC 1 output.
Verify the frequency linearity (20Hz/2KHz/20KHz 1.5 dB).
Verify the MIC ATT. position; make the input signal level 20 dB higher (-30 dB) and check the
output at REC 1 remains the same.
Repeat the same procedure for the MIC 2 input.
PHONO INPUTS
Inject a 2KHz/-40 dB signal at the PHONO 3 input.
Place the input selector at the PHONO position.
Place the corresponding fader at its maximum position.
Check for a -11 dB 1 dB level at the REC 1 output.
Change the input frequency to 200Hz and verify the output is now -1 dB 1 dB.
Change to 20KHz and verify the output is now -28 dB 1 dB.
Go back to 2KHz and check that level goes up 1.5 dB when you move the CROSSFADER to its
far left position and it disappears completely when you move the CROSSFADER to its far right
position.
Repeat this procedure for the other PHONO input, but take into account that this time the
CROSSFADER will act the other way round.
GRAPHIC EQUALIZER
Let's go back to any LINE input with its nominal input level (-10 dB).
Verify there is the same level at the REC 2 output (-10 dB 1 dB). The tone control knobs must
be at their center positions.
Verify the following values are true:
BASS
80Hz 12 dB
BASS-MID
400Hz 12 dB
HIGH-MID
2KHz 12 dB
HIGH
10KHz 12 dB
Leave this controls at their center positions.
OUT OUTPUT
Push up the MASTER fader.
Verify the mono switch; unplug one of the input channels and watch for a 6 dB decrease at the
output for both channels (with the switcher at its ON position).
Check for a 0 dB 1 dB signal level at the OUT output with a correct linearity at all frequencies
(20Hz/2KHz/20KHz).
Verify the correct operation of the BALANCE.
HEADPHONES
Place the PFL switcher at the ON position in the channel in which you apply the signal.
Turn up the headphones VOL. With a 600 charge you should get a +6 dB level.
Verify the input/output channel matching as well as the frequency linearity (20Hz/2KHz/20KHz).

MAC40 - QUALITY CONTROL

Have a look at mechanical parts to detect any possible surface scratches, verify that all of the
screws are well-tightened and scratchless. Also, look at the general mixer overview.
Perform a background noise test for all inputs and outputs, drop the device over the table and
make sure you do not listen to any additional noise over the background's due to contact failure.
Verify all inputs and outputs while you play some music, checking all controls for good
operation. Make sure there is an overall good sound quality (free of distortions and noises).
