BANGLADESH UNIVERSITY OF PROFESSIONALS

FACULTY OF BUSINESS STUDIES

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Course Outline
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
This course is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of production operations
functions in organizations. In the educational setting students are often left with the feeling
that an operation is distinctly different and separate from management. This course efforts to
fill this void with the unifying theme: Planning, Organizing and Controlling, the classical
process school of management. In many instances, analysis and quantitative techniques are
emphasized at the expense of a basic unifying framework for the overall role of operations
management in organizations.
While all managers are involved in planning, organizing and controlling, operations managers
have the direct responsibility of getting the job done. With quality, productivity and
timeliness, more competitively significant than ever before, this course will primarily focus
on Planning the Conversion Process, Scheduling Production and Service Systems, and
Controlling the Conversion System of production. One important element of the course is a
plant visit to familiarize students with the real life operation of a conversion process. So this
class will visit a plant either as a whole or in small groups to witness its operating system,
stores, plant location and layout. Students will also be asked to familiarize with computer
software as an aid to operations decision-making process. Focusing above the following

P. S.: Note that at the end of the day we are trying to process you to be an effective and
efficient manager. Whether it is the production floor or negotiation table the most important
obsession for a manager is discipline. Take note that discipline will be one of the most
important elements in this course.
