Chains
XATP 5
XATC 5
Description
The conveyor chain consists of plastic links joined
together by means of plastic pivots and stainless
steel pins. It can be delivered with or without cleats.
The chain is also available with composite chain links
based on the standard link design, combined with a
special chain top. The basic link has the same
technical properties as the standard link.
Plain chain
The plain chain has a flat top surface. The surface
has low friction, which allows accumulation of
products.
Crescent chain
The crescent conveyor chain top is designed with
minimum gap between links.
Universal chain
The universal chain has provisions for application of
custom chain tops in applications where the standard
chain cannot be used.
Cleated chain
A cleated chain is required for vertical or steeply
inclined conveyor tracks. Cleats are available in
different heights and shapes. The cleat type must be
selected to suit the shape of the goods conveyed.
Friction top chain
The friction top chain is especially suitable for track
configurations with inclines up to 30, and where a
standard cleated chain is unsuitable. A friction insert
molded into the link increases the friction between
goods and chain.
Always test with the specific product to ensure that
the friction is sufficient at the desired inclination.
Steel top chain
The steel top chain replaces the standard chain if the
products conveyed are causing excessive wear to
the standard chain. It is intended primarily for the
mechanical manufacturing industry, for transport of
castings or machined items with sharp edges.
Based on the standard chain link, the steel top chain
has the same technical properties as the standard
link.

Chain lubrication
The chain is lubrication-free. A new chain running on
new slide rails, however, will need a few hours of
running in before it runs perfectly smoothly. For
applications where absolutely smooth running is
essential from the start, a silicone-based lubricant
(XASS 450) is available.

Ordering information
The chain comes in 16.4 ft. sections. Separate links
can also be ordered. Plastic pivots and stainless steel
pins are included with chain and link deliveries, so
they need only be ordered for replacement purposes.
Calculate the required length of chain. For effective
track lengths of bends, drive units etc., refer to the
table Effective track lengths in the technical
reference section (page APX 8-10). Be sure to use
the value for a two-way chain if the chain returns
on the bottom of the beam. The chain must be
ordered in multiples of 16.4 ft.

Ordering information
Determine the number of beams required.
Determine the length of slide rail required. Two
lengths of slide rail are required for each length of
XA track. Four lengths of slide rail are required for
each length of XE track. Use the Effective track
length table on the technical reference section to
calculate the XA stainless steel top slide rail
support and top slide rail required for bends and
drives (page APX 8-10).
Estimate the required number of plastic screws
(10-32) for the slide rail. Two screws are required
for each separate piece of slide rail. The screws
must be ordered separately.
Determine the number of connecting saddles
required: one (1) for each joint between straight
beam sections, two (2) for joints between curves
and straight beam sections. Drive and idler units
already provide the connecting saddle.
Determine the amount of XA raised chain assembly
brackets required. Remember not to exceed 16
between them.
The mounting hardware is included with every XA
raised chain assembly bracket.
Determine the length of XA stainless steel top slide
rail support and top slide rail required for the
conveyor. Two lengths of each one are required
for each XA beam length. Use the Effective track
length table on the technical reference section to
calculate the XA stainless steel top slide rail
support and top slide rail required for bends and
drives (page APX 8-10).

Standard support leg

Description
Support components are the support leg, feet and
conveyor support bracket.
XA/XE Conveyor support
The conveyor must be supported at regular
intervals not exceeding 8-0. There are two types
of support legs:
Standard support leg
Double support leg: used to support two (2)
parallel beams with one support leg (center
distance 12-19/32).
The stock length of the support leg is 36; cutting will
be required depending on conveyor height.
XA/XE Conveyor support brackets
Conveyor beams can be mounted onto the conveyor
support leg with two different types of support
brackets: fixed or swivel.
Conveyor fixed support bracket: used to support
the beam in the horizontal position
Conveyor swivel support bracket: enables angle
adjustment of the conveyor beam up to 30.
XA/XE Feet
The articulated feet are available in different styles.
Their main purpose is to provide a solid ground base
to the conveyor. All of them, except for the casters,
provide the vertical adjustment needed to level the
conveyor properly.
Ground base: has a 304 stainless steel 5/8-11
threaded bolt, which is used to adjust the height of
the conveyor. The base swivels and is made of
reinforced polyamide. For ground base options
refer to the drawing section on page XAE 13.
XKB
Threaded tube insert: used to connect the
ground base with the beam support leg. The
threaded tube insert comes with a 5/8-11
threaded brass insert and it is made of
reinforced polyamide.
Bullet foot: made of stainless steel, it does not
require any insert for installation. Used in
sanitary installations.
Caster with brake: the caster can swivel and it
has a brake lock that simultaneously locks the
heel and the swivel. The wheel provided is
phenolic and has a 4 diameter. These casters
are installed in the support leg using a rubber
expansion kit, which is provided with the
caster. For casters options refer to the
drawing section on page XAE 14.

Description
XA/XE End Drive
Designed to be positioned at one end of the conveyor. A gear reducer and motor drives the conveyor
chain directly or by means of a roller chain transmission system with an adjustable slip clutch (refer to
the assembly manual for clutch adjustment instructions).
Four drive configurations are available: suspended
motor and direct drive with transmission on left or
right side. The drive configuration can be easily
inverted, using the same components.
Direct end drive option and Chain end drive option are
available for the XE model only.
The drive unit can be connected parallel with
additional drive units, so a common motor can drive
several conveyors together. This requires a longer
drive shaft and a modified bearing arrangement,
available upon request.
XA Catenary Drive
Used in conveyors where chain return on the bottom
of the conveyor beam is not suitable or required. A
gear reducer and motor drives the conveyor chain
by means of a roller chain transmission system with
an adjustable slip clutch (refer to the assembly
manual for clutch adjustment instructions).
Two drive configurations are available: suspended
motor, transmission on left or right side. The drive
configuration can be easily inverted, using the same
components.
The drive unit can be connected parallel with
additional drive units, so a common motor can drive
several conveyors together. This requires a longer
drive shaft and a modified bearing arrangement,
available upon request.
As with the end drive, you must use a gear reducer
mounting kit.
