tree
Project Goal/ Description of the project/activity
Project /activity Objectives:
These School Tree-Planting project connect students to the benefits of trees and
foster environmental stewardship. Tree planting is a great way to increase student interest
in their local environment and achieve academic goals. Each school tree-planting
program provides educators, administrators and students alike with the opportunity to
inspire and create good learning environments and to affect positive change at their
schools and communities.
Planting a tree is a learning activity per se for students to learn by themselves the
structure of trees, what they need and how they grow. Teachers can use the planting
process to discuss the great roles trees play in environmental and ecological equilibrium

altogether. Besides, teachers can use the trees surrounding the school as realia during
the process of teaching and learning.
The tree-planting project relates students directly to the environment and sensitize
them to the priority of protecting it. Ultimately, it is hoped that the experience will help
them make intelligent decisions about conservation and use of our valuable natural
resources.

Project/activity rationale

An opportunity for students of all ages to take part in a school tree-planting project.

Provide an outdoor laboratory for students to learn about tree growth.

To study how trees act as a windbreak and prevent soil erosion.

Students learn the species of trees they will be planting, how to properly handle
and plant them.

Expected output
Adding trees to schools will be a great way to make campuses more welcoming,
create outdoor classrooms, shade recreation spaces, connect students to the benefits of
trees and foster environmental stewardship.

Strategies of Implementation
Project Organizers, including principals and teachers, propose planting sites for five
or more trees. Shade trees must make up 60 percent or more of the total requested trees
Tree planting is normally scheduled between October and April. The project
organizers and the targeted schools principals have to decide upon the suitable time to
conduct the project. Urban Forestry provides some trees, as well as technical assistance
for each approved project. With support of Urban Forestry staff, students serve as the
primary planters, giving them a sense of ownership and increasing their knowledge of
trees. Schools that participate in the program must commit to watering their new trees for
a minimum of two years following planting

Monitoring and Evaluation

Newly planted trees will require great attention until they are large enough to survive
on their own. On a school property, for example, trees may need protection from
lawnmowers and overzealous students. It is important that the school staff and students
know about the trees and have a role in taking care of them. The planted area should be

marked with stakes. We would also pay periodic visits to these schools to supervise the
trees.

The project will be successful if

As we have an excellent team of teachers who will ensure good organization of the
planting-project; (students, teachers, parents and volunteers) We strongly believe that if
we are financially supported, this project will be successful.

Conclusion
Morocco has committed itself to the laws and proceedings of worldwide treaties and
agreements about sustainable development and environment protection. The countrys
determination in this area was reiterated in 2002 at the Johannesburg World Summit,
which focused on education and environmental awareness as key elements for
sustainable development. As members of the association responsible for implementing
the program effectively, we assume that students will not only plant trees, but will better
understand the issue of environment protection vis--vis climate deterioration. Each
student will take care of the trees they plant and follow its evolution throughout their
school career with the aim of enhancing awareness of the need to protect forests and
biodiversity and develop eco-friendly behavior.
